Don't forget William Saunderson (EB Farnum) as the Crazy Interrogation Expert for Dharma.

xp There was a pointless murder of a blonde prostitute on Lost? How did I block that out?

she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Friday, 20 November 2009 21:39 (fourteen years ago) link

lol a friend of mine's sister is the prostitute that got killed on Deadwood iirc -- supposedly they were interested in her being a long term regular but she or her family was embarrassed or uncomfortable about the ahem nature of the show/role so they wrote her off

no one asked what else hawkes was in.xls

No, I volunteered the information. I've never seen Deadwood, so that's the only thing I know him from.

i dunno i guess more namedroppin than braggin? i've never seen the show or met her myself so it was just a piece of trivia i wanted to be able to drop at some point.

worked out nicely on the show, if that's the prostitute i'm thinking of

The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Friday, 20 November 2009 22:08 (fourteen years ago) link

The actress was I was referring to was Paula Malcolmson (who played Trixie on Deadwood), she was basically put on the show at the beginning of Season 3 as one of the Others, only to be killed for no good reason immediately.

hopefully he doesn't die pointlessly in three episodes, never to be heard from again

I think it might be helpful to rewatch without the mindset that certain characters are going to be much bigger and more important than they turn out to be. I think anytime they made a big deal about such and such actor joining the cast, I always thought that they were going to be a regular and/or return from the dead somehow after they were killed off three episodes into their stint.

OR MAYBE THEY WILL BE RETURNING FROM THE DEAD AFTER ALL........

I HEART CREEPY MENS (Deric W. Haircare), Saturday, 21 November 2009 17:35 (fourteen years ago) link

how many characters introduced after season 2 have even really been important or had much long term screentime? I mean Juliet obviously and I guess Faraday and Lapidus, but it seems like in general the show is intent on always coming back to the original core cast, and when someone new shows up I usually don't expect a lot more than a brief arc.

turkey turkey turkey let's all get basted (some dude), Saturday, 21 November 2009 17:57 (fourteen years ago) link

Any new character introduced this late in the series almost has to be cannon fodder. They don't have time to get into any back story for them. From a recent press release it seemed that Frank and Illana are listed as main cast members for SSN 6.

President Keyes, Saturday, 21 November 2009 18:16 (fourteen years ago) link

Unless the new character is Alvar Hanso or something.

President Keyes, Saturday, 21 November 2009 18:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Don't forget Bram! Though it wouldn't surprise me if he suddenly died early in the season, either. (and what about Jacob?)

Nhex, Saturday, 21 November 2009 19:38 (fourteen years ago) link

ok so the one thing about rewatching is that baby walt is so damn cute!

tehresa, Saturday, 21 November 2009 20:42 (fourteen years ago) link

true!
OK, I have definitely been watching this show for way too long, because I "noticed" that in S1 Ep7 ("The moth") after he chucks the heroin into the fire,
Charlie recreates a Virgin Mary pose (ie the statues that they find later, containing the heroin)

yeah so i am part way through season 2 now (hello therei being in bed with the flu all week) and maybe there are things i am picking up now that i didn't the 1st time around because i wasn't reading threads/didn't realize i needed to pay as close attention but things like the swan orientation video being ©1970 and the pearl video was ©1980 and that candle introduces himself by another name in the 2nd video (mark w-something?) now jump out at me. also i didn't notice the first time that kate's dad was the one w/ sayid in the gulf war thing. that was probably obvious to most people but i just wasn't paying attention. maybe i should just og read the old threads but that seems like too much work.

tehresa, Thursday, 26 November 2009 21:43 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, it's probably easier to look at Lostpedia than sort through the old threads.

President Keyes, Thursday, 26 November 2009 22:23 (fourteen years ago) link

just searching the date the episode aired could be helpful if she wants to see what we thought was going on

I had a whole lot of stuff remembered wrong, mainly not important stuff. I'm enjoying season 1 a lot more now I don't have to wait a whole week between episodes and get mad furious when they waste like a whole 10 mins on having a fight or looking pensive.

Not the real Village People, Friday, 27 November 2009 03:30 (fourteen years ago) link

yes!
the end of episode vignettes of everyone at the beach enjoying each other's company by campfire to stringed music still got really old, though.

tehresa, Friday, 27 November 2009 04:14 (fourteen years ago) link

^^ Any tv show that ends with some song with either instrumentals, or pensive songs with female vocals (fox network shows are all over this) need to cut that out. I'd rather take a hundred "oh shit, shocking conclusion!" Lost endings than a few more of these.

Curious to see where they're going with Miles, given that he doesn't seem to have any structural function in the story as it is.

lol just saw this while rewatching old lost! he was guarding the place where they were clockwork oranging carl (karl?).

McElhenney said that 50 weeks of each year are consumed by acting, producing, and writing for the show, but he did find time to appear in the third season of the television show Lost as Aldo in the seventh episode, "Not in Portland". He is shown reading Stephen Hawking's A Brief History Of Time 22 minutes, 40 seconds into the episode. This was as a result of McElhenney meeting Lost co-creator and executive producer Damon Lindelof. Lindelof is a fan of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and offered to give Rob a small role in an episode. Though Aldo is thought to be deceased, Damon Lindelof revealed that Aldo isn't dead (Lindelof also joked that "No one dies on that fucking show") and may actually appear in a new Lost episode.

A friend of mine just gave me the AVIs of the entire series, I started watching episode one with the intention of re-watching the whole thing and then it occurred to me quite how many hours of my life that would take up. I might start from season four instead.

Just watched the first Claire episode. I'd forgotten how intense it seemed at the time, compared to anything else that had happened, that Claire had to raise her baby etc etc. Nothing really came of it throughout all 5 seasons, so I hope it leads to something in the final season other than 'lol psychic'.

(I mean, I know Aaron was raised by Kate or whatever but Aaron himself has never seemed that important. Maybe the whole psychic thing was just meant to motivate Claire even more to keep him away from THE Others in particular, rather than 'others'.)

The baby's dad looks quite a lot like a young Ben imo :)

the real commercial is pretty gross imo, i can understand if they wanted to go for that kind of shock value if they were actually talking about polar bears dying from the ice caps melting, but instead they just use it as a super weird device to address something else entirely

some dude, Monday, 14 December 2009 21:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Reminds me of Twelve Monkeys.

Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Monday, 14 December 2009 21:08 (fourteen years ago) link

i was naive and thought surely no-one else is using polar bears - tho it did seem somehow familiar. pretty gross i agree.

Just finished re-watching Season 1 (yeah it took ages). Not too much that seems any different second time round, except a couple of things. Rousseau says she hasn't seen anyone else on the island, but has heard them - obviously crap, I guess they get around that by having her be kerrazy. I forgot also she tried to trade Aaron for Alex (by taking him to the pillar of black smoke, even though there were no Others there).
Tom Friendly on the raft seemed really really creepy, as up until then there's no real sense of a team of people making a concerted effort to 'get' them - it was only Ethan and Danielle who'd appeared til then, who seemed to be acting alone.

Anyway, the most interesting bit that might make more sense now is what Locke says before blowing up the hatch (and just after nearly getting sucked down a vent by smokey) - they're talking about the Island bringing them there:

LOCKE: Boone was a sacrifice that the Island demanded. What happened to him at that plane was a part of a chain of events that led us here -- that led us down a path -- that led you and me to this day, to right now.

JACK: And where does that path end, John?

LOCKE: The path ends at the Hatch. The Hatch, Jack -- all of it -- all of it happened so that we could open the Hatch.

JACK: No, no, we're opening the Hatch so that we can survive.

LOCKE: Survival is all relative, Jack.

JACK: I don't believe in destiny.

LOCKE: Yes, you do. You just don't know it yet.

OTOH, it also just sounds like yer average Locke bullshit, so who knows...

yeah i've noticed a lot of that in my scattered re-watching lately (just got through S3), things that are ambiguous enough that they're not flat out RONG in retrospect but were clearly pushing in one direction that it seems the writers were as convinced of as the audience was at the time. I think Rousseau even says something in S3 about not wanting to see Alex because she wouldn't recognize her, which makes the trading Aaron thing even goofier.
