I complemented a stranger on his lowrider BMW 2002 the other night. Normally it's not the kind of thing I go out of my way to do but I was passing him on my bike and it was a really cool car, so what the hell.

Do you ever do that thing where you see a stranger who, for example, is wearing the same shirt as you so you say "Hey nice shirt uh huh huh"? That's pretty dumb but kind of unavoidable.

I'd never heard of him, but according to Wikipedia "Elgin Baylor was born in 1934 in Washington, D.C., and was named for his father's favorite watch."

I am so classy I never see anyone wearing what I wear.

At least that's what I tell myself, when in reality I wear what I can tolerate and fit over my ridic shoulders.

I read this week in the New Yorker that Herb Caen in the SF Chronicle coined the term "beatnik" when On The Road was released the same month that Sputnik was launched. (Lumpkin somehow reminded me of this.)

I think I've taken the few times I've been complimented in a clothing store as genuine (ginuwine).

A stranger complimented me on my Powell's t-shirt recently. He must have been from Portland or something.

elgin baylor was a badass front court player, terrible gm. elgin watches were made in elgin, il. for a while i used to buy them off ebay, then the price got prohibitive but there are some SWANK '30s - 50s model elgins.

hey guys, i just read this whole thread from being away all weekend. we had a great time in NY although chicago wasn't so welcoming on the way back-- i lost my chicago plus card somewhere between getting on the el at o'hare and getting the bus at addison, the internet was disconnected at home, etc.

things i would have posted along the way-- comcast does indeed suck. they limit torrents like crazy PLUS when our upstairs neighbors had their cable installed while we were gone, they decided it would make sense to disconnect our internet! and i'll bet they try to charge us to fix it when they come out tomorrow. grr.

Comcast broke our cable while installing someone else's before, too. Tell them it's their fault for fucking it up if they try to charge you, but I bet they won't. Have you ever looked at some of the cable splicings in the alleyways? It's like a rat's nest up there.

John, the torrent limiting thing means that they will not allow you to seed torrents, meaning that you cannot upload to other users, effectively killing torrenting as a file-sharing avenue. Matt can speak more assuredly on this than I can.

Oh. I prefer not to upload files to other users when I'm file-sharing, anyway, so I have no problem with that.

But that's okay, because I reached a point where I was definitely not alright with indietorrents reason for being. "No major label stuff, let's just share RIAA safe records!" In otherwords, steal from those artists that actually deserve and probably really need the money.

linus had dog booties for winter but he HATED them. when he walked he'd shake his hind legs trying to kick them off. also, i went out to watch monday night football on monday and i guess the dogs were barking when i left them alone, i had an angry email waiting for me yesterday morning from my landlady.

Yeah I should have mentioned the torrent limiter only really counts toward private sites like 0|nk and #it, where your share ratio matters. Of course, these sites are the only ones I have any patience with.
