A friend of mine just gave me the AVIs of the entire series, I started watching episode one with the intention of re-watching the whole thing and then it occurred to me quite how many hours of my life that would take up. I might start from season four instead.

Just watched the first Claire episode. I'd forgotten how intense it seemed at the time, compared to anything else that had happened, that Claire had to raise her baby etc etc. Nothing really came of it throughout all 5 seasons, so I hope it leads to something in the final season other than 'lol psychic'.

(I mean, I know Aaron was raised by Kate or whatever but Aaron himself has never seemed that important. Maybe the whole psychic thing was just meant to motivate Claire even more to keep him away from THE Others in particular, rather than 'others'.)

The baby's dad looks quite a lot like a young Ben imo :)

lol a friend of mine's sister is the prostitute that got killed on Deadwood iirc -- supposedly they were interested in her being a long term regular but she or her family was embarrassed or uncomfortable about the ahem nature of the show/role so they wrote her off

this is insane to me. u know what most actors in h'wood would do to get a regular role on an HBO show

they'd resort to actual prostitution to become a TV prostitute?

Yeah, it's a fake. It's a real commercial but not for LOST:

too soon

tehresa, Monday, 14 December 2009 20:43 (fourteen years ago) link

the real commercial is pretty gross imo, i can understand if they wanted to go for that kind of shock value if they were actually talking about polar bears dying from the ice caps melting, but instead they just use it as a super weird device to address something else entirely

some dude, Monday, 14 December 2009 21:03 (fourteen years ago) link

Reminds me of Twelve Monkeys.

Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Monday, 14 December 2009 21:08 (fourteen years ago) link

i was naive and thought surely no-one else is using polar bears - tho it did seem somehow familiar. pretty gross i agree.

Just finished re-watching Season 1 (yeah it took ages). Not too much that seems any different second time round, except a couple of things. Rousseau says she hasn't seen anyone else on the island, but has heard them - obviously crap, I guess they get around that by having her be kerrazy. I forgot also she tried to trade Aaron for Alex (by taking him to the pillar of black smoke, even though there were no Others there).
Tom Friendly on the raft seemed really really creepy, as up until then there's no real sense of a team of people making a concerted effort to 'get' them - it was only Ethan and Danielle who'd appeared til then, who seemed to be acting alone.

Anyway, the most interesting bit that might make more sense now is what Locke says before blowing up the hatch (and just after nearly getting sucked down a vent by smokey) - they're talking about the Island bringing them there:

LOCKE: Boone was a sacrifice that the Island demanded. What happened to him at that plane was a part of a chain of events that led us here -- that led us down a path -- that led you and me to this day, to right now.

JACK: And where does that path end, John?

LOCKE: The path ends at the Hatch. The Hatch, Jack -- all of it -- all of it happened so that we could open the Hatch.

JACK: No, no, we're opening the Hatch so that we can survive.

LOCKE: Survival is all relative, Jack.

JACK: I don't believe in destiny.

LOCKE: Yes, you do. You just don't know it yet.

OTOH, it also just sounds like yer average Locke bullshit, so who knows...

yeah i've noticed a lot of that in my scattered re-watching lately (just got through S3), things that are ambiguous enough that they're not flat out RONG in retrospect but were clearly pushing in one direction that it seems the writers were as convinced of as the audience was at the time. I think Rousseau even says something in S3 about not wanting to see Alex because she wouldn't recognize her, which makes the trading Aaron thing even goofier.

some dude, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 02:23 (fourteen years ago) link

still really bothers me that when jack is in his druggie crazy phase and he goes to steal meds from the hospital he says 'you go find my father and tell me he's not drunker than i am' or whatever... would jack be that out of it to say something like that? i don't think so. it's weird.

tehresa, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 02:42 (fourteen years ago) link

bear in mind he's a raging alcoholic and hopped up on random prescription meds that he wrote out for himself, so it's possible... and well people time jump in their minds all the time in the show!

but whatev-STAY ALL DAY, IF YOU WANT TO

Nhex, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 03:39 (fourteen years ago) link

plus he was having hallucinations of his father non stop...and his life consisted of flying to australia and back while drinking booze and taking meds. loved druggy jack

Uh hold on, that is what they're doing. It's kinda great imo.

JimD, Tuesday, 15 December 2009 12:21 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean they could've done it directly by talking about the polar bear death toll, instead of comparing the weight of emissions to the weight of polar bears or w/e weird equation they used

So I've heard they (producers? fans?) have put up Facebook pages for alternate timeline Lost characters. The one I stumbled across so far is Cassidy Sawyer--obviously Cassidy married to Sawyer.

President Keyes, Thursday, 17 December 2009 11:38 (fourteen years ago) link

"producers? fans?"

quite an important distinction!

i've heard they have also put up descriptions of kate making sex on locke/ben/signey bristow, but im not sure if it's canon.

I mean I think it's official but I don't have confirmation. Could end up being like that polar bear promo.

President Keyes, Thursday, 17 December 2009 11:47 (fourteen years ago) link

Cassidy Sawyer is a profile page rather than a "Page" page, and she's a fan of all the spanish pages for Richard Alpert, Locke etc - definitely fake.

Skimming through season two, and while I'm getting annoyed at the amount of time they devoted to Charlie's boring life story, how on earth did I forget "You All Every Butties"?

”Just finished re-watching Season 1 (yeah it took ages). Not too much that seems any different second time round, except a couple of things. Rousseau says she hasn't seen anyone else on the island, but has heard them - obviously crap”

She was specifically talking about the Others, right? I watched the Jin and Rousseau ep earlier today, and it's not necessarily a plothole. If Faraday was right about the variables and constants, then Jin would have been able to alter the course of events. That would explain why Rousseau didn't recognise him in S1.

Space Battle Rothko (Matt DC), Thursday, 24 December 2009 21:48 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i'll just handwave that one away, since it's 20 years into her psycho past, and as crazy as she is Danielle probably doesn't think time travel/immortals exist

Nhex, Thursday, 24 December 2009 22:30 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah I'm not too worried about Danielle not recognising Jin - it's not that strange. It's just that they asked her if she'd ever seen anyone else on the island and she says no - but iirc they come right up to her and nicked the baby Alex.

I'm happy to explain this as she's crazy/lying/trying to protect them, it makes more sense than some of the stuff that happens in season 2 (e.g. Eko dreaming stuff he couldn't have known about then acting on it).

Locke is a good character to re-watch. He goes from seemingly wise all-knowing, to calling his life pathetic and trying desperately to piss people off (also beginning to get easily manipulated by Ben), but it's quite a good line and he could fall either side of it.

Interview with Cuse/Lindelof.

THR: Do you have any plans to pitch a new show, on ABC or elsewhere, for next season?

Lindelof: No. We don't. The world works in mysterious ways, but our full-time job for the last six years has been coming in here and working 70- to 80-hour weeks on "Lost." The idea of going back into the fray Brett Favre-style is not alluring to us. When we finish "Lost" we will disappear to our undisclosed locations then think about things for a while.

Cuse: I think the one thing that's pretty certain is neither of us have a great (urge) to do something that's this dense, sprawling and serialized. You need to exercise different creative muscles.

Lindelof: My hope is to rip off other successful shows.

THR: Like you've been ripped off?

Lindelof: Exactly. Maybe a show about vampires that work in an ad agency and one is a serial killer.

Cuse: Especially if the lead character is also cooking meth.

Lindelof: Oh, I hadn't thought of that. Almost guaranteed an Emmy. "Breaking Bad Men."
