That looks like 80% of my students' writing.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

...before they take my class, that is!

yuk yuk yuk

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Who am I kidding. After my class it looks more like

This watch may just need batteries but not sure because i did not tested. so there not tested watches.

See but that's charming in an ESL way, not mind-boggling and twisty.

Laurel, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

It's like the cute Japanese girl T-shirt of incorrect English.

Laurel, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:50 (sixteen years ago) link

hey guys, i just read this whole thread from being away all weekend. we had a great time in NY although chicago wasn't so welcoming on the way back-- i lost my chicago plus card somewhere between getting on the el at o'hare and getting the bus at addison, the internet was disconnected at home, etc.

things i would have posted along the way-- comcast does indeed suck. they limit torrents like crazy PLUS when our upstairs neighbors had their cable installed while we were gone, they decided it would make sense to disconnect our internet! and i'll bet they try to charge us to fix it when they come out tomorrow. grr.

i had that horrible bowl haircut when i was a sophomore in high school. i should scan the photo from my first ever prom, i was such a dork.

halloween party, yay!

colette, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:55 (sixteen years ago) link

there is a totally adorable japanese girl in my saturday class. she said "runch" one day.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:56 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, this still doesn't mean anything to me.

jaymc, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 19:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Comcast broke our cable while installing someone else's before, too. Tell them it's their fault for fucking it up if they try to charge you, but I bet they won't. Have you ever looked at some of the cable splicings in the alleyways? It's like a rat's nest up there.

John, the torrent limiting thing means that they will not allow you to seed torrents, meaning that you cannot upload to other users, effectively killing torrenting as a file-sharing avenue. Matt can speak more assuredly on this than I can.

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:03 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh. I prefer not to upload files to other users when I'm file-sharing, anyway, so I have no problem with that.

jaymc, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:05 (sixteen years ago) link

who wants to buy me this?

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Ohhh that's gorgeous.

Laurel, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:05 (sixteen years ago) link

yeah, i'm a sucker for anything mid-century/danish modern. which is one reason i've always wanted a bungalow.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:09 (sixteen years ago) link

but that couch seems incompatible with the messy feet of littledogs and you love those too ;_;

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:11 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, Comcast killed my decent ratios at indietorrents and Oink.

But that's okay, because I reached a point where I was definitely not alright with indietorrents reason for being. "No major label stuff, let's just share RIAA safe records!" In otherwords, steal from those artists that actually deserve and probably really need the money.

La Lechera, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:14 (sixteen years ago) link

linus had dog booties for winter but he HATED them. when he walked he'd shake his hind legs trying to kick them off. also, i went out to watch monday night football on monday and i guess the dogs were barking when i left them alone, i had an angry email waiting for me yesterday morning from my landlady.

which is why i really need to find a fucking job. speaking of which i just noticed i've spent an HOUR looking at shit i can afford on eBay when I should have been sending out more resumes & cover letters.

later gators.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:19 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah I should have mentioned the torrent limiter only really counts toward private sites like 0|nk and #it, where your share ratio matters. Of course, these sites are the only ones I have any patience with.

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Jeff went home to check the mail and MY BAR RESULTS DID NOT COME.

Can you tell ILX? I can't quite bring myself to do it. Or much of anything for that matter.

from Jenny

Jesse, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:37 (sixteen years ago) link

:(

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:40 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry to hear that. :-(

As for dusting, sometimes lucy flattens herself into a big feather duster and squeezes under the side table for us.

KitCat, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:46 (sixteen years ago) link

I knew that would happen!

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 20:49 (sixteen years ago) link

boo to no bar results! I think jenny should call in sick tomorrow and wait for the postman while drinking mimosas.

colette, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:00 (sixteen years ago) link

seconded

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:03 (sixteen years ago) link

And singing Mr. Postman.

Jesse, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:09 (sixteen years ago) link

I think Jenny should apply and interview at Caribou Coffee tonight and then turn down their offer tomorrow when the bar results come in.

Mimosa? Fuck that shit, PABST BLUE RIBBON!

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I may have already told you, but here goes-- C@tch hosted a farewell cocktail party for Le0 Burnet's interns. At some point every intern got an envelope. Some contained job offers, and the rest contained applications for Starbucks. Zing.

Jesse, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Bet there were some hottays there.

Eazy, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Seriously? That seems rather harsh, although I'd much rather get bad news with a cocktail in hand.

sweet tater, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I would find the most senior person I could and call them a fucking cunty asshole, throw my drink on them, and walk out.

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:31 (sixteen years ago) link

secretly that's hilarious, tho

I would find the most senior person I could and call them a fucking cunty asshole, throw my drink on them, and walk out.

assuming this was open bar, i'd hold off on that until the end of the evening. but then i'm a pragmatist when it comes to free booze.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:33 (sixteen years ago) link

Question: What are some of your favorite sounds?

sweet tater, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:35 (sixteen years ago) link

the *crump crump crump* of walking in silence in the first snow at night. no traffic, no music, no people, just the sound of your boots compacting the snow. i always forget how wet snow acts as a great sound baffle.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

The sound of my keyboard when I hit command-shift-q right before going home for the day.

xp: good one!

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Some contained job offers, and the rest contained applications for Starbucks

that is amazing

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:40 (sixteen years ago) link

I hit alt+ctrl+del, enter.

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:40 (sixteen years ago) link

oooh. snow is great.

What about sounds that are seasonally obtainable? I have some homework due tomorrow that I haven't finished is why I'm asking!

sweet tater, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:41 (sixteen years ago) link

I like the sound of a beer bottle being opened.

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:42 (sixteen years ago) link

And the sound of a cell phone being flipped shut.

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:43 (sixteen years ago) link

The sound of the snowblower actually starting after ~900 pulls on a 10 below morning was always pretty sweet, because it meant that the hard part was over and with only a little more work I could go get warm.

dan m, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Also my cat snoring.

Jordan, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:43 (sixteen years ago) link

crunching of leaves underfoot? we noticed them walking down damen from the farmer's market in wicker park down to the plant store south of chicago the other day.

chicago kevin, Wednesday, 3 October 2007 21:44 (sixteen years ago) link

i so wish i could get a recording of your cat snoring! how cute!
