OMG, I forgot this one. When we get a little frazzled from having to do pretty much everything, he says things like, "You obviously can't handle this job." This coming from someone who brings nothing to the table. It's infuriating.
― Ai Lien, Thursday, 12 June 2008 15:54 (fifteen years ago) link
In my previous job (where I currently work is great, and they just bought me a shiny new computer which I'm now abusing to visit ILE), I used to find a quiet spot in my lunch breaks to read a book. This reading-a-book business was viewed as wildly freakish behaviour, and led to several people calling me "Professor", and they would seek me out to ask me what I was reading, how I was liking it, what was it about, etc, while I'm being all polite and thinking "Fuck off and let me read!".
These workmates were all journalists. If the sight of somebody READING blew their minds, no wonder the media's as fucked as it is.

I had to remove the games from everyone's computers the other day, and change them to opendns so their sites are gonna be seriously filtered. I bet they were bitching about me :( (no one has sold out ilxor in the forums category of opendns yet btw)

I managed to give myself admin privileges as part of getting the new computer. Huzzah!
― James Morrison, Friday, 13 June 2008 03:07 (fifteen years ago) link
Wow, journalists freaking out about reading makes me want to scream.

Sad, yes. The only person who actually seemed to read was the newsreader (no pun intended) Dominique Schwartz (who was actually pretty lovely).

co-worker just pulled off the annoying trifecta: 1) smoking in non-designated area (ie 5 ft from me trying to enjoy the beautiful day on my break) 2) had her ginormous SUV idling away whilst doing said smoking 3) took up 2 parking spots with said ginormous SUV. hats off to ya!

how does my co-worker manage to chew so loudly? she makes horribly smacking noises and talks on the phone with her mouth full seemingly ALL DAY. usually bitching at her husband about something.

haha lol - i witnessed undergrad convocation last week and srsly the people graduating with journalism degrees were of two kinds and yes i am mean but i tell the truth: "on-air talent" and "media nerds" with the former outweighing the latter

yeah one guy kinda ruined it for everyone while he sat there oblivious to his telephone ringing, and also trying to get peoples attention when they were in a world of their own was slightly frustrating sometimes.
i stand by the ban.

Childless is indignantly shouting to me about some reality show called "Baby Borrowers" as we speak. She has been going on for about eight minutes in spite of the fact that I'm obviously not listening.

i don't know, the thing is that this is maddening shit that can fill all frequencies but at the same time in the great scheme of things it is totally minor shit that you can over-ride with your very own mind/being. yeah i know i say it a lot but: this is why i do yoga/meditation stuff. if i didn't i wld explode and kill a yogurt-slurpin' ho

Work-slurping is like an irregular dripping faucet -- just when you think the storm's passed, and you're ready to stop bracing yourself for the next one, SCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCHURLP comes out of the silence to just make you weep.
