product of the logical progression of contemporary liberal feminism

This is code for co-ed locker rooms, right?

The implication, to me, was that the doc thought that this was the only way to save her life. However, there were some hints in last night's episode that the doc/fiance was more sinister than indicated before, but whatever. Also, I think it's pretty clear that both of the bionic women (the good one and the bad one) resent what the scientists have done to them.
I don't really know why I'm defending the show. It's really bad.

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:13 (sixteen years ago) link

I guess I would prefer if we could just hate the show because of its terrible acting, huge plot loopholes and general boringness than have to judge it through a feminist perspective, but I know that is your style.

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

fuck comcast! Toby kindly stayed to work at home till 10 since they were supposed to come 8-10. Missed a voivemailin Spanish at 9, he calls the number back and is put on hold for 20 mins. When he gets through, he's told its cancelled since he didn't confirm within 10 minutes, they can come tomorrow night. Fuck this.

colette, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I think all of the bionic heroes ($6 Million Dollar Man) have had involuntary surgery.

A different show would be about a Donald Trump type of guy who pays to get bionic powers installed.

Eazy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Whoa, Nick. So if I'm going to hate a show I have to hate it according to your criteria? Are you suggesting that a feminist perspective is less legitimate a way to look at something than your perspective? And you do realize that disregarding my opinion on this as being "just my style" comes across as really condescending, right?

Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:16 (sixteen years ago) link

Just wait 'til you guys see my bionic Trump show, Rich and Strong.

Eazy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:17 (sixteen years ago) link

The point is that with their newfound strength, both women try to turn the tables on their former transgressors. Certainly the poss of mutual trust/intimacy with their creator is gone once they realize they've been manipulated. It's not a v sophisticated storyline, really, but it still had potential....

Laurel, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:17 (sixteen years ago) link

PLUS, he got through to a supervisor, who will "try" to get a truck out today. But no idea of when. So guess who's stuck in the house not sending resumes today? :(

colette, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:18 (sixteen years ago) link

Colette, I saw that there's wi-fi at the Whole Foods near ye.

This would be Iron Man, right? I mean, it's a suit, but he's totally a Trump.

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm sorry if I came across as condescending. Obviously you can hate the show for whatever reasons you want and they are legitimite.

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Hm, a network TV remake of a dubious-quality original, and it sucks a lot on all kinds of levels? Color me surprised.

dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:20 (sixteen years ago) link

I don't really want to argue about this dumb show.

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

No, you want to argue about feminism! But we can do that when we're drunk.

Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh and it's okay. I never could stay mad at you, Nick.

Is that Robert Downy Jr?

Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:23 (sixteen years ago) link

Yes!

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

I've never heard of Iron Man, but reading the extensive info on Wikipedia it does sound like the Trump idea. (And I just learned that Downey Jr. above is playing Iron Man.) (I did know the Sir Mix-A-Lot cover of "Iron Man" before today.)

I think Rich and Strong would be more of a comedy, though. Like a guy squeezing his coffee mug until it breaks when he gets pissed off at a board meeting, stuff like that.

Eazy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:24 (sixteen years ago) link

xxp I don't know, but it's kind of hot.

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:25 (sixteen years ago) link

thanks eazy, there's a lot around here but i'm stuck waiting for the maybe truck... Will stop whining soon!

Also, eazy, have you ever been to one of those wine auction tastings? Can you actually get a decent taste or is it a tiny sip to be spit? It looks like some amazing wines...

colette, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:26 (sixteen years ago) link

buff Robert Downy Jr. as an alcoholic, arms-dealing superhero

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:27 (sixteen years ago) link

The Iron Man preview is AWESOME. Making it pretty much the only superhero movie ever I've actually been excited about. Too bad it's not coming out for like ANOTHER FUCKING YEAR.

Mix-A-Lot "Iron Man": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fk-AFEvX6ZE

Not as good as Mix-A-Lot's "One Time's Got No Case", one of my favorite rap songs ever:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EynIA_-_BYQ

The auction tastings are usually not very crowded. It's possible to basically taste and re-taste whatever you want over the course of an hour. I went to one a month ago, they had a '47 Chateau d'Yquem and a 1955 Margaux and some rare Napa cabs from the 1980s.

Eazy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I just like it when Robert Downey Jr. acts like a dick (ie most of the time).

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:30 (sixteen years ago) link

xxp I don't know, but it's kind of hot.

Yeeeeeah... I keep finding myself scrolling back up to look at the picture again, which is odd because I've never been particularly taken with Robert Downey, Jr.

I don't know from Ironman, but I like the idea of RDJr as a drunk arms dealing superhero. I think that will be entertaining to say the least.

Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:31 (sixteen years ago) link

i've always liked RDJ, and that movie looks great!

is there another movie about a big robot looking thing coming out as well, or is 'ironman' what we saw the teaser trailer for a while ago?

colette, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:44 (sixteen years ago) link

trans ... formers?

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:45 (sixteen years ago) link

Dear RDJ,

Please tell me you don't wear that goatee in real life. It's 2007.

Sincerely,
Concerned Fan

kenan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:50 (sixteen years ago) link

Dear RDJ,
Don't listen to kenan. Normally, I would agree with him, but it just so happens you are one of the only men in the world who can pull this off.

Sincerely,
YOU KNOW WHO

KitCat, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:53 (sixteen years ago) link

no, i thought it was some anime style live action thing, but can't remember much else. i'll have to see if toby remembers anything else about it.

colette, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:55 (sixteen years ago) link

Judging from the preview I think I'll see the first 20 minutes of Iron Man and then sneak into Friends with Money 2 or something.

Eazy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 15:57 (sixteen years ago) link

LOL @ RDJ correspondence, particularly "YOU KNOW WHO."

I'm just going to print that out and hand it in to my attorney as my conclusion on this particular issue.

Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:12 (sixteen years ago) link

^that's a great bassline that pops up in Iron Man

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:17 (sixteen years ago) link

Are you talking about the cover of "Iron Man" at the end or (my guess) "Hey Man Nice Shot" by Filter or something else?

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

"Hey Man Nice Shot" is the obvious guess because the bassline is really prominent.

n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:25 (sixteen years ago) link

I didn't recognize that bass line from the preview 'til now. There's a good use of "Hey Man Nice Shot" in The Cable Guy.

Eazy, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:27 (sixteen years ago) link

I was talking about the bassline in the Sir Mix-a-lot cover that Eazy posted.

But then I watched the trailer, which is awesome, and said "lol, Filter" to myself.

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 16:30 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, so glad they did the obvious thing and played "Iron Man" in the Iron Man trailer (and used the original).
