Local Garda OTM. It's exactly the kind of show I should hate but I don't, and I think it's more than just the amount of time invested in it. I think the whole internet discussion thing is a large part of it, though.

ilana says something like "he's a candidate". i assume a candidate for their stupid gang.

Since Lapidus came back on the Ajira flight, she may be thinking he's been selected by Jacob (a la the Touchees), but have no way to confirm it by herself.

is it plausible that the reality that the shadow of the statue people are in is already the alternate-bomb-blew-up reality?

(Are we considering alt-reality talk here to be a spoiler? I wasn't sure.) That's a great idea, I was thinking beforehand that the alt-reality is actually the reality created by the successful intervention of the El Touchy/ShadowStatue crew against MIB. The 'present' narrative hasn't caught up to its creation yet.

for the sake of argument...i don't understand how the shadow people could be in some alternate reality when they're constantly interacting w/ people who aren't in that reality. obviously this show finds ways of making even the most far fetched premise work, but i don't see it.

I have a feeling that scene is important to the writers in some annoying philosophical way--like R & B were the only ones who didn't come to the island and fight and kill and corrupt, but found some Jacob-like zen attitude, thereby redeeming humanity. Of course they f'd up the scene by making it all about Who duz Sawyer luv?

I thought that scene was just another wink at the camera kinda thing, "LOL we really have nothing left to do with these characters but don't wanna kill them off, so we'll let them roll their damn eyes at the drama queens running around advancing the plot to poke fun at our own show a bit"

Yeah, personally I loved that scene! The show kinda needs some characters (usually Hurley) to pipe up once in a while to talk about how ridiculous it all is, to make the really dramatic stuff more easy to go with.

lots of it SEEMS like we're getting new information, but it's really just old stuff made a little clearer.

it's still not clear that smokey is more evil than jacob; jacob made all those people on the boat die, fr'instance. it's not clear why he needs to test people either.

the explanation for why the black rock is in the middle of the island is particularly poor. there was a big wave and they hit the statue and whoa! middle of the island. i'm guessing that's their explanation for why the statue is broken too. two with one stone.

can we give this one up? i don't recall jacob turning into a pillar of smoke and ripping people into pieces, over and over, numerous times since the beginning of s1. bringing a boat to an island (somehow) and some of the people on it dying in a storm hardly compares. plus you know it's tv...ambiguous blah blah blah but smokey is pretty markedly evil.

yeah, but the reversal of expectations that would entail making Jacob the bad guy and MIB the good guy is almost predictable for lost.

That said, I don't really think this is going to be good vs evil per se, but I expect Jacob will be the more sympathetic figure in the end.

thinking about it more, not even sure how jacob "killed" everyone on the black rock since it was visible from the island in clear skies etc...bringing it there was not necessarily via storm.
