Uh-oh. I just realized I'm having salt for lunch so far. I'm eating Kalamata olives and (Bulgarian!?) feta. I love working in Greektown sometimes!

I went to Artopolis a while back, liked it a lot.

The greek grocery store is pretty great. Like at all ethnic grocery stores you get yumminess for MUCH cheaper than at Jewel or Whole Foods.

artopolis was good too, but my chicken dish was not very special. i chose poorly.

Dan: sometimes my balls feel like tits
― Jesse, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:04 (sixteen years ago) link
I was listening to Sweep the Leg Johnny!
― dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:05 (sixteen years ago) link
And it made your balls feel like tits?
― Jesse, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:05 (sixteen years ago) link
I'll repeat what I said before:
jesse k3hr: que?? Dan M@rt|n: it's the name of the song I was listening to
― dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:07 (sixteen years ago) link
I saw that band once.
― Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link
It was okay.
Me too. I saw them here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wN3PLKDQZQI
― dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:09 (sixteen years ago) link
The sound sucks ass but the end of the video is great.
I like Sweep the Leg Johnny. Saxaphone dude was in Zzzz, who were pretty great too, afterwords, then I think he moved to South America?
― n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link
I bet I used to play the song from that YouTube video on my college radio show.
More bands should have saxophones.
― n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link
I saw them in Milwaukee, on their break-up tour. I think I really disliked the drummer for some reason?
― Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link
I remember thinking "that dude is going to fall right through that drop ceiling" and then he fell right through the drop ceiling.
You didn't like the drummer? I thought he was pretty awesome.
― dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:17 (sixteen years ago) link
I listened to a lot of StLJ in college. They played a few times at Grinnell. Pretty awesome, but when I've gone back to listen to them recently, I can't get into it.

Apropos of nothing except that we're posting youtube clips of '90's bands, but the video for Break Up Your Band by Chavez is still my favorite video of all time (I may have made you watch this before if you have been to my house).
― n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:26 (sixteen years ago) link
The dude in the beginning of that video looks the hell out of Mark McKinney.
― Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:30 (sixteen years ago) link
I wish I was better at playing left-hand lead like that dude does (b/c I am actually left-handed). I can do it alright for rock but not more syncopated stuff.
― Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:32 (sixteen years ago) link
JESSE I can't believe I forgot to tell you this:
My co-clerk who isn't Leslie was walking around the beach area of the LP golf course with his girlfriend and was hassled by a gang of five raccoons!
― Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:35 (sixteen years ago) link
! What time of day was it???
― Jesse, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:35 (sixteen years ago) link
They're everywhere!
― Jesse, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:36 (sixteen years ago) link
Which dude are you talking about, Jordan?
― n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:37 (sixteen years ago) link
It was at night. He said that there weren't any people around, and the wind was blowing, and he heard noises and started to get scared and then suddenly... RACCOON ATTACK.
I had not shared your story with him at this point.
― Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:37 (sixteen years ago) link
did he get hurt?
THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN TALKING ON IM!!
― Jesse, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:38 (sixteen years ago) link
scared of raccoons lol
― dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:40 (sixteen years ago) link
The MC at the very beginning/end.
― Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:41 (sixteen years ago) link
He did not get hurt, nor did the raccoons try to take his cell phone. He did say that he no longer goes to Lincoln Park at night, however.
I think we're seeing the beginning of the Great Raccoon Wars.
― Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:42 (sixteen years ago) link
No Dan, he was scared of the noises. Well, but then he was scared of the raccoons, too. But you'd be scared, too, especially if there were enough of them to pile up on each other and form a giant humanoid shape made from writhing masses of raccoons and then karate chop your ass.
― Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link
No Jordan, which dude are you talking about here:
― n/a, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:44 (sixteen years ago) link
attn n/a: i play saxophone. it is, in fact, the only instrument for which i have displayed any aptitude.
too bad mine's broek
― river wolf, Thursday, 4 October 2007 18:47 (sixteen years ago) link
Oh, I mean the drummer from Chavez, he plays lefty lead on a righty kit.

Jeezus. I submitted an online request to People's Gas on Saturday to have gas turned on at our new place, and they said it wouldn't be turned on until Wednesday, and I was like, well, that's kind of annoying but OK, I probably shouldn't have waited so long to get my act together, etc. Now we still don't have gas, so I called them up and the woman said she had no record of my account and since they would need to have access to the basement in order to get shit activated, the earliest that could happen would be NEXT WEDNESDAY. And it would have to be in the afternoon, so either I'm staying home or I'm calling my landlords to see what they can do about it. Fuck this. I don't even cook that much, but Kr does and she's been chomping at the bit for a stove/oven to use. Grrrr.

Saxaphone dude was in Zzzz, who were pretty great too, afterwords, then I think he moved to South America?
Did he join up with Chicago-based cornetist Rob Mazurek (of Chicago Underground Duo/Orchestra/etc.), who moved to Brazil a few years ago?
― jaymc, Thursday, 4 October 2007 19:07 (sixteen years ago) link
So who's got an oven we can use?
― jaymc, Thursday, 4 October 2007 19:14 (sixteen years ago) link
How about some sterno? If you get tired of cooking, you can drink it.
― Jenny, Thursday, 4 October 2007 19:15 (sixteen years ago) link
I don't know what that is.
― jaymc, Thursday, 4 October 2007 19:15 (sixteen years ago) link
That sounds like bullshit to me. In both of our apartments, the gas has already been on, but in the landlord's name. I called up, got it switched, no hassle. Unless the whole building has been vacant for years I can't imagine the gas is not already on in some form, otherwise the pipes would be freezing and shit and no-one wants that.

ok, i found a job i'm qualified for and actually want. it's nearby (about a mile, maybe 10 minute bike ride in morning traffic)and i wrote a kick ass cover letter noting how my past experience dovetails with the duties they have listed. send me good vibes, i need this.
xpost- i think my oven is broken, pilot light is on, oven never heats, 3 of 4 stove burners work so i don't know.
