i find that people are pretty inconsiderate year-round

tho i guess it's a little harder when everyone's wearing bulky jackets

mookieproof, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:35 (sixteen years ago) link

G to the 7, Morbs. Which so far has been fine, so much easier than the 4/5 in the AM.

Laurel, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:39 (sixteen years ago) link

It should run all the way to Jackson Heights EVERY TIME
Are you sure about this, Dan? I have never, ever seen a G train at Roosevelt, I think it is only supposed to be there at some weird hour.

James Redd and the Blecchs, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:40 (sixteen years ago) link

regular G service through Queens would be nice - you could live cheap up there and still see your friends in now -shockingly expensive Greenpoint.

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:45 (sixteen years ago) link

expanding the G further into brooklyn WHEN? All I saw was some vague promise. It would make my life easier, esp on weekends.

so all the Park Slope yuppies can move to kensington.

They won't be happy when they get there, not for awhile.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:48 (sixteen years ago) link

don't worry, they are all coming to live in crown heights with me, off the 4 express

bell_labs, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:49 (sixteen years ago) link

Those people are all flooding into Sunset Park, and soon Boro Park of all places. You could drop a brownstone into floating shit barge and someone would pay 2mil for it. Will anything stop the swarm?

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:51 (sixteen years ago) link

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:56 (sixteen years ago) link

also, lol at that petition "what is your favorite thing about NYC transit?"
anyone writing in with something other than "24 hr service" is a fule.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 17:56 (sixteen years ago) link

how about that mariachi band that usta play on the F train

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:00 (sixteen years ago) link

or the mariachi band that i see ALMOST every morning on the L? no, fuck them. dude whacked me in the knee once with his upright bass and my tolerance for subway performers has been diminished ever since.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:02 (sixteen years ago) link

i enjoy it when gentrifying whites complain about other gentrifying whites.

Shut up, Park Slope-Skrit.

Laurel, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:07 (sixteen years ago) link

god, do any of you ever read the prospect heights board on brooklynian? so much barely-concealed racism and classism. not helped by the fact that several regular posters are cops (who, in one particularly upsetting moment, made a joke about a rape victim but then freaked out at being called a pig [separate threads])

xpp
i think dave reads this board.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:08 (sixteen years ago) link

i took the boy to sunset park sunday for tacos matamoros and a snowy walk through the park. at one point i looked him in the eye and said ONE DAY THIS WILL ALL BE OURS.

sanskrit, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:09 (sixteen years ago) link

lololol CLASSIC.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:10 (sixteen years ago) link

so much barely-concealed racism and classism

otm but I don't read them much for that reason

I pretty much stick only to the WHEN IS THAT RESTAURANT ON VANDERBILT OPENING threads

THE THAI PLACE ON WASHINGTON AMIRITE

bell_labs, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

I keep meaning to go to Sunset Park to eat.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:12 (sixteen years ago) link

y'know, i was a little underwhelmed by tacos matamoros. got to find something better down there, i'm sure it exists.

sanskrit, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:13 (sixteen years ago) link

there is one classic thread on the P Heights board called something like "Strange Beeping Sound??!?!?!"

over the course of weeks all these people are like "I hear it too what is it?" "a beep that sounds every 30 seconds" "I can't tell where it's coming from"

someone figures out that all the smoke detectors in some massive residential bldg are out of batteries and beeping in unison on every floor

dmr, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:15 (sixteen years ago) link

sanskrit, it's not quite in sunset park but the place on 5th ave & 21st street that is a 24 hour mexican bakery has excellent chicken tacos, tinga stylee.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:19 (sixteen years ago) link

you know, the foodies don't have to take over EVERY thread.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:21 (sixteen years ago) link

ian, do you know the place on 6th and 13th/14thish with excellent pernil?

sanskrit, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE EATING OF FOOD ON THE TRAINS?
I ALWAYS SHOVELY FOOD INTO MY MOUTH ON THE PLATFORM BECAUSE I THINK EATING ON THE TRAIN IS TACKY.

p.s. Dr Morbius hates eating.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:22 (sixteen years ago) link

mike, i think so. the spanish american restaurant place? i used to live around the corner from there (14th between 6th & 7th) but only ate there once or twice, did not have pernil.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:23 (sixteen years ago) link

(speaking of pernil, sucelt on 14th st and 7th ave in the city is closing on xmas eve. go now to experience their cubano while you still can!)

lauren, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:24 (sixteen years ago) link

i don't have an opinion on train eating. i've done it. not like, full meals but cookies and snacks.

bell_labs, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:25 (sixteen years ago) link

i got reallly dirty looks from a bunch of people on the j train once for having a take-out container of pies n thighs fried chicken. it made the whole car stink! i wasn't eating it tho.

bell_labs, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:27 (sixteen years ago) link

that stuff smells with the stink of 1000 kfc's

bell_labs, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:27 (sixteen years ago) link

i think you are confusing dirty looks with jealous looks.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:28 (sixteen years ago) link

fried chicken odor was probably a huge improvement over normal j train odor.

lauren, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:29 (sixteen years ago) link

eating on train is 'gainst rules (tho not nec as annoying as open stroller or bike at rush hour)

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:30 (sixteen years ago) link

stroller i can understand, but people with bikes piss me the fuck off. it's like, what, you can't just ride across a bridge? you lazy fuck with your spandex and your helmet.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:32 (sixteen years ago) link

New York City is becoming Ayn Rand's dream metropolis - a city where the power of wealth is wiping the scum from the streets (poor people, middle class people, writers, designers, public interest workers) and replacing them with mailboxes, coffee carts, and Thai Fusion restaurants. let us all hail our banker masters. So many people I know are starting to get priced straight out of the entire city ;[

Also whats the deal with people eating on the trains?

burt_stanton, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:33 (sixteen years ago) link

I agree; if you don't have time to eat elsewhere, stay home.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

hunger, mostly

remy bean, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

seriously why do you care?

remy bean, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:34 (sixteen years ago) link

cleanliness issues.
so many mcdonalds bags littering the train.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:40 (sixteen years ago) link

not to mention soda bottles, potato chip bags and candy bar wrappers.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:41 (sixteen years ago) link

yes, it's an intrusion on my personal space, which I realize is a quaint notion that will be buried by the enabled phone yakkers underground in another 2 years.

also, if you SPILL food on me on train, I shoot.

Dr Morbius, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:42 (sixteen years ago) link

my favorite is seeing people (mostly teenagers) spilling a soda/coffee/whatever and promptly moving on to the next car.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:43 (sixteen years ago) link

so the issue isn't with the eating, it is with the slobs. i get it.

remy bean, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:45 (sixteen years ago) link

for me, yes.
i personally don't eat on the trains, as i stated above, because i feel like it attracts attention and i don't like people lookin at me.

ian, Tuesday, 4 December 2007 18:46 (sixteen years ago) link

no the issue is intrusion into personal space. the proper response to food smells on public transit is to ask if you can have some too.
