i worked til 11pm then went home, having sadly cancelled all non-boring housewarming/fancy-dress party plans in favour of mopping my gf's fevered brow (read: watching E4 til 2am became 1am).

Mine wasn't boring, exactly, but it was...odd. Went to a house party with a new girl friend, who I like but don't know well so it's all in that cautious-circling stage, and she and her boyfriend are so quiet and gentle that around them I feel like a big jaded oaf who pulls wings off ladybugs. There were only about 8 people there and they were all BIZARRE, and not even in interesting ways -- all friendly but I'm telling you it was THE high-water mark of social dysfunction and it was SUFFOCATING.

Oy. I tried to behave like a calm, thoughtful person and not cuss too much but overall it was like turning up & finding everyone speaking a language I didn't know, nothing that was said or done seemed to have the import I expected. Next time can we please have less of the saccharine punch, ditto the conversation, and more of the gimlets & chain-smoking & making out?

I am the most bored person in the western hemisphere, possibly the world.

Yeah, I'm having a boring one too. (Also, I feel out with a friend of yours this week! Not an ILXer.)

feel out = fell out? I can guess who this was — among the group that saw Ornette in the spring?

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 5 November 2005 23:48 (eighteen years ago) link

whoops, yes, fell out. I haven't touched him. That's the man.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 November 2005 23:51 (eighteen years ago) link

Oh yeah, it's gonna be another boring one for me. That's what I get for teaching classes on Saturdays and Sundays and procrastinating lesson preparation.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 5 November 2005 23:53 (eighteen years ago) link

G/f at work til 10PM + me working tomorrow at 7AM = Adam drinking beer and listening to My Dying Bride (why?). DC sucks.

adam (adam), Sunday, 6 November 2005 00:01 (eighteen years ago) link

everyone who has a story about friday night is not writing in the true spirit of this thread.

I failed to go to the biggest firework show in North London which happened 10 minutes walk from my front door. That was kind of by accident though, it ran from 7:30-8:00 and I was thinking of going out about 8 and figured it would be on later. Oh well.

My boring Saturday night has so far been slightly livened up by upstairs neighbours banging on the ceiling for reasons I'm currently unable to discern. I am listening to music, but it's on tinny computer speakers at a barely audible volume even to me and I'm sitting a foot away from them! It's probably someone else, I know sound travels weird in this building.

i'm making pork chops and watching the big lebowski.

I just made quesadillas with ham, cheese, capers and chili sauce. Fuck I love quesadillas.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:45 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm eating some peanuts, reading Macworld, listening to Fly Pan Am, and drinking New Belgium's Frambozen. (I don't recommend it.)

The best part of tonight so far is that I was just thinking I wouldn't mind a spliff, and I looked behind me and I already rolled one and forgot about it. Awesome. ;)

I haven't been hi in almost 7 years. : - (

Awh. Why not? Not that I'm evangelical about it or anything!

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:50 (eighteen years ago) link

I do have some 24-hour marinated chicken in the fridge ready to cook - lemon, rosemary, garlic, salt, pepper, vinegar, olive oil. Yum.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:51 (eighteen years ago) link

Haha I'm having bangers and mash tomorrow night and really looking forward to it. That does sound yummy but my culinary skills are extremely limited.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:55 (eighteen years ago) link

Reasons basically boil down to "I live here and all my friends live there." No fun indulging on my own, or so I thought until this weekend.

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 6 November 2005 01:57 (eighteen years ago) link

That sucks. Why don't you move? I've been thinking of moving to another city but don't want to because all my friends live here. But it's so expensive here there's no way I can buy anywhere to live.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Sunday, 6 November 2005 02:01 (eighteen years ago) link

As I told M. Matos when I was in Seattle in September, "For the love of a good woman I live in fucking Mississippi."

I do feel guilty for getting any perverse amusement out of it (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 6 November 2005 02:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Living in Mississippi seems like an excellent reason to get high. David Banner could prolly hook you up.

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 6 November 2005 02:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Ah I see! Fair enough then. It's hard to make friends in a strange city.

i just got home from the record fair and... not doing much. it's going to be an early night cuz i'm walking dogs tomorrow morning!

U.A.L.R. is up on Lyon College 43-32 in the second half.

Did my first pre-game and halftime tonight. I usually don't do live radio. It went okay though I had to improvise awkwardly when the computer messed up and my Notepad script disappeared from the monitor while I was reading it.

Laurel, you must meet my true love. You two would get on like a house on fire. In fact, yesterday she almost did set the house on fire.

Went to see Jesus Is Magic by myself, read some stuff, watched SNL (best episode of the season thus far, but this is a really bad season), now I'm wide awake and hungry but not in any mood to do anything about it and my roommate is watching an old German film and I'm half-watching it too.

By the way, the worst episode of SNL of all time is the one Matthew McConoughey hosted two or three years back. Easily the lowest low in over 30 years.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:24 (eighteen years ago) link

The Donald Trump episode from last year comes really close, though.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:25 (eighteen years ago) link

the only good part of this episode was the weekend update girl on girl re-encctment, and not cause of the lesbian sex, but the political commentary.

tehresa (tehresa), Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:27 (eighteen years ago) link

You know, I know there were moderately funny bits throughout, but I can't remember them. The show ended a half hour ago!

But after several consecutive awful episodes, just getting back up to mediocrity was impressive enough for me.

I watch SNL like some people follow a sports team - sometimes you have to watch your team have a crappy season. To me, the frustrating thing about SNL in the past two or three years is that the cast is full of pretty good performers - it's the writing that's awful.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Sunday, 13 November 2005 06:37 (eighteen years ago) link

now I'm re-reading the first 300 pages of a terrible "funny" sci-fi novel I wrote in high school and wondering if I should burn it or fix it and try to publish it under another name. it's not any worse than lots of shit. also, I'm going to take bath, maybe. I was going to go see the Clientele. That would have been more interesting!

watched CSI, Numbers, Stuart Gordon installment of Showtime's "Matsers Of Horror" series. Husband cooked pulled pork on the bbq, except that it took much longer to cook than expected, ie still waiting at uhm let's see, midnight. luckily we had other food. my advice: the less involvement nature has in your method of cooking, the more likely it will cook within the planned timeframe. bbq tastes great, but the waiting sucks ASS!
