don't get up there and blatantly condescend and front like the real crime here is that your privacy got invaded

he didnt do this tho! the privacy thing was about 30 seconds of a 15-minute speech

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:06 (fourteen years ago) link

he said, like, over and over that he was to blame, and he was the only to blame, and that he was deeply sorry

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:06 (fourteen years ago) link

but ultimately, none of it matters. he'll be back on tour this year and everyone will have forgotten about this by the time he wins two majors.

call all destroyer, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:07 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean i dont really give a shit about him apologizing the way jordan does so maybe im being more lenient but i thought it was a fine, sincere apology

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i know max i still think "leave my family alone" was megalol in that speech

call all destroyer, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:07 (fourteen years ago) link

i thought it was a silly, transparently insincere apology but i otherwise agree with max.

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link

eh. i think its pretty fucked up that ppl are following his kids to school.

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link

this - I still shake my head that kobe is lauded and given hi fives all around despite being accused of rape. and aren't there nfl players playing right now who have been accused of murder? ray lewis, I think?

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ (dyao), Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:10 (fourteen years ago) link

i actually dont know what woods could have done to convince any of you that his apology was insincere? i mean this is a ridiculous debate to be having since a) none of us really have the right to demand an apology from him so our observation of his sincerity is beside the issue and b) none of us know the guy personally so judgments of his sincerity are gonna be totally abstract

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:10 (fourteen years ago) link

i agree but, tbf, big difference is "accused/beat the charge" v. "convicted/admitted" (xp)

oh, i don't care if his apology was sincere or insincere. he didn't owe me an apology. just saying it sounded insincere to me (and maybe that's because of something innocuous, e.g., my feelings about the matter coloring how i viewed the apology; his generally stiff demeanor; etc.)

Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:12 (fourteen years ago) link

i actually dont know what woods could have done to convince any of you that his apology was insincere?

ended his speech by lasciviously winking @ a sexxxy pr chick and asking how she was doin'

p sure tiger woods owes me an apology for never once hitting on me i mean cmon

F → F−F++F−F (Lamp), Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:14 (fourteen years ago) link

anyway i think its p sickening the way jordan and sportswriters and whoever else are all demanding their pound of flesh from the guy but i dont really expect any different from this country, everyone just wants to be offended and watch ppl cry

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 17:15 (fourteen years ago) link

whores, all of you

i'm not sure what this means

oh i misread you, nevermind

/b/ OK (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 21 February 2010 18:29 (fourteen years ago) link

i guess my thing is that i don't understand how getting in front of a camera and saying "i'm sorry, i fucked up" is a pound of flesh, but w/e

the pound flesh bit is that a) he doesnt owe this to you, and b) he did it anyway and c) youre still complaining!

max, Sunday, 21 February 2010 18:35 (fourteen years ago) link

well, i want to emphasize that i don't personally care about the sincerity of his apology -- it didn't come off as sincere to me, but that's really besides the point of if he should've done it or not in the first place -- speculation upthread on whether or not it was "good" was solely from the standpoint of "how will this play with the public"

/b/ OK (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 21 February 2010 18:38 (fourteen years ago) link

basically the pursuit of worldwide fame and the attainment of it turns people into insane robots who are seemingly incapable of having emotions or actions that aren't overly studied.

i think woods' biggest worry in that regard is having to take off months to address this issue (e.g., SEX THERAPY -- what happens in SEX THERAPY, anyway?)

Hope it's not anything like this album:

sex therapy: officially a bad album. you heard it from stephen ilxor

idgi, mon (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 14:27 (fourteen years ago) link

I wasn't referring to the album (haven't heard it and I'd like to keep it that way, thanks) so much as the disembodied hands creeping all over Robin's body -- a pun on the phrase "sex therapy" that I'm sure you can figure out, kevin.

Hence why I hope sex therapy for Tiger isn't anything like what's on the Robin Thicke album *cover* (key word "cover" missing in my original post, fwiw).

I don't get the pun :/

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ (dyao), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 15:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Sex therapy = using sex as therapy...

why so unhappy, robin thicke?!?

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 23 February 2010 15:55 (fourteen years ago) link

they don't look like menacing zombie hands, or anything.

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 23 February 2010 15:55 (fourteen years ago) link

That wasn't my point...

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 15:58 (fourteen years ago) link

xp was thinking the exact same thing and trying to come up with a horror pun. sex the rapy? ???

Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ (dyao), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 15:59 (fourteen years ago) link

oh i wasn't addressing ilxor's pun at all. i just think robin thicke should be happier!

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 23 February 2010 16:00 (fourteen years ago) link

What gives you the impression he's not happy? Dude gets to tour the world with Beyonce and Jennifer Hudson, making millions belting his white boy R&B tunes to his fans, and gets to bang his high school sweetheart/wife on the side.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 23 February 2010 16:06 (fourteen years ago) link

i know nothing of him (never heard of robin thicke). but if he gets to hang-out with beyonce and jennifer hudson, he should be a happy guy. smile, robin thicke!

two weeks pass...

so his first tournament back will be the masters. as well as that sets up for him, it's borderline disrespectful imo.

funky house septics, let me drain you of this (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 17:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i feel what CAD's saying -- just that he's taking the biggest event in the sport and making it about him, more than it would ever be normally, at least -- he could have played a smaller tournament a week or two ahead of time, i guess -- it seems like by picking the masters he's inviting the pressure onto himself on purpose, like it might make him play better? idk why else he wouldn't play a warm up tourney beforehand

funky house septics, let me drain you of this (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 17:37 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i dunno it's just that the masters/augusta national is pretty much the hallowed ground for golf in america and to a certain extent he's going to overshadow golf's best weekend in a way that wouldn't have been so extreme if he had played some other tournament in advance.

otoh it's an extremely protective environment and has much more of a sense of decorum than other tournaments so it totally makes sense for him.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 17:42 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i think he wouldnt play anywhere else 1st just cuz of the crush of media that it would attract -- that is really minimized at augusta. i guess also, he may just not be competatively ready to.

johnny crunch, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 17:56 (fourteen years ago) link

when he flames out after the first two days, the media frenzy will be unbearable

smoking cigarette shades? it doesn't even make any sense. (HI DERE), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 17:59 (fourteen years ago) link

Smart (i.e. calculated) choice on his part in that the tournament directors keep a very tight grip on "patron" behavior. Still, I'm predicting a few "get in the hole!!!"s will be replaced with "BLOWJOB!!!!"s.

Religious Embolism (WmC), Tuesday, 16 March 2010 18:03 (fourteen years ago) link

fwiw i'd support that being the new thing everyone shouts in the crowd at every golf tournament.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 16 March 2010 18:13 (fourteen years ago) link

it would be kind of amazing if hecklers followed Vijay Singh around shouting "BLOW JOB!!!!"

which competitor is gonna pull a mini-tonya harding & hire four slutty blondes to follow tiger around the course just within his peripherals

Yeah, the choice of tournament as an attempt to minimize gallery jeers is going to be futile. Jim Nantz and his crew of respectful whisperers will tut-tut the bad behavior; meanwhile Sean McManus will roll around naked in a pile of Nielsen ratings reports.
