Oooooh, that map's got my workplace marked on it!

If you want to find the pub on the map, look at the Mount pleasant mail centre, in the bottom corner is the archive, and the pub is on the corner diagonally opposite there.

I'm sorry Cozen can't come down now. Melissa, if you can't make the Tuesday FAP, PLEASE propose another time, as I don't want to miss out on meeting you.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 22 May 2003 16:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

I will have to make an appearance at this to give Julio his tape and him my copy of NNY, but probably won't stay around as neither C nor M are definites.

Marcello Carlin, Sunday, 25 May 2003 13:51 (twenty-one years ago) link

Any word from Melissa on this as yet?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 25 May 2003 18:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

Lots of us are going even though we've had no confirmation from Melissa. It'll be very disappointing if she doesn't show, but a good FAP can be had anyway, one hopes.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 26 May 2003 21:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

i walked past SHepherds Bush Empire yesterday evening and while a crowd of people was gathering for the Radiohead gig, it seemed that there was a much bigger queue to get into the adjacent Walkabout aussie bar...unless they'd got confused and joined the wrong queue - it was still a bit early tho but maybe i saw Melissa as i walked past :)

stevem (blueski), Monday, 26 May 2003 21:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

i'm off to cambridge now to teach all day, but i'll be along at about 7 i hope, gagging for a pint...

arf, arf, arf...

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 08:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

is this still the apple tree?

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

Is it the apple tree or the pakenham arms? (or are they the same)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

Apple tree, I do believe

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Apple Tree. Though people are free to try a pint in the Pakenham for comparative purposes.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

which road is the apple tree? (I can't read that map)

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

it's on the corner of Mount Pleasant, Warner Street and Phoenix Place.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:26 (twenty-one years ago) link

thanks.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

very easy to get to from Farringdon, just walk up Farringdon road and then do a left before the Grauniad building, then do a right and at the end of the road just past the bridge you can see the apple tree.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

Chris's directions might not be the easiest to follow!

Walk up Farringdon Road, then turn left at the Printworkers (whetherspoons but on the corner) Ray Street, when you get to the next pub on the right (can't remember the name, sorry) turn right into Warner street, then carry on down there, under the bridge, and it's on your left.

Coming from the other direction, from Grey's Inn Road, you can either go down the slightly dodgy Mount Pleasant, or down Elm Street, which turns into Mount Pleasant, and it's on your right hand side, in the dip.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

As I said before, I'll be there relatively early, even after going shoe shopping, as I should be finishing work at 4.30. So I'll be back in there at around 5.30 onwards. Unless anyone else is going to get there ridiculously early... in which case I could go straight from work.

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll be there at any time between 6-7.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 09:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll be there around quarter to six, I expect.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 10:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

5.30-5.45ish depending how long it takes me to get a 38/19 (although i could prolly walk in about ten mins i suppose, but there is a bit of a hill...)

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 10:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'll be there aboot 8:30 after finding out about the cultural signifacance of non buried dead bodies in cinema (with reference to Death By Hanging, Guelwaar and Weekend At Bernies).

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 10:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

i work close but i may also have to work a bit late-ish, i don't know yet (clue: i have not yet left home!!)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 10:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

About half seven I reckon.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 12:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Julio, you emailed me details of the Pakenham Arms rather than the Apple Tree! Which one is the FAP happening? At?

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 13:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

The Apple Tree.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 13:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ta.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 13:20 (twenty-one years ago) link

sorry marcello. the directions are given here.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 13:24 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hey I'm in Shepherd's Bush right now. How do I get to the Apple Tree, keeping in mind that I'm public transportation illiterate? I tried to get into Jools with no luck.

Melissa W (Melissa W), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago) link

get a hammersmith and city line (the pink one) to Farringdon. Or a Piccadily line (dark blue to Kings Cross (the follow directions posted above.

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hammersmith and city all the way round to Farringdon then follow Vicky's instructions upthread, it's not the quickest, but it's most likely the easiest.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:03 (twenty-one years ago) link

Did you see the way they deliberately put Shepherds Bush on the Tube Map twice, just to be as confusing as possible?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

How much by cab?

Melissa in London, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

melissa did u get my mob no.?

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago) link

£20-ish by cab. £2.00 by tube. If you really want, get the tube and then get a cab from Farringdon.

Matt, it is on twice cos they are actually different stations. You have to get out and walk between the two of them.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Too much!

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Cab is likely to be upwards of £20 I'd have thought (though I don't take cabs so that may be way off...it's unlikely to be much cheaper but it might be way more). If you're worried about the bit at the end you'd be much better getting the Central Line to Chancery Lane and hailing a cab there.

Matt: yes they should have thought of another name for one of the stations (e.g. calling the Central Line one Shepherds Bush Green).

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

I just really really really don't know how to use public transportation.

Melissa in London, Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

hobs lane!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 14:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Don't get the circle and hammersmith, there are delays. Get the central line to Chancery lane. You want to go left when you get out the barriers, and then take the left hand exit. When you get to street level, go right and then take the immediate left, it should be Grey's Inn Rd. Walk up, past argos, cross over at the zebra crossing, continue straight on, until you get to the cross roads. Go straight across, then after the bag shop on your right hand side, there's an small road, that's Mount pleasant, go down there, follow the round round and down the hill, and eventually the apple tree will be on your right hand side.
