My oven/stove is the only modern appliance in my apartment, it is awesome.

Jordan, Thursday, 4 October 2007 20:40 (sixteen years ago) link

It opened this past weekend. I only know because we got coupons in the mail.

KitCat, Thursday, 4 October 2007 20:41 (sixteen years ago) link

i should check my mail. was it this past weekend that i walked by? because me and amy were literally standing at the corner of damen and chicago talking about how much more convenient it would be for me to go there than to the jewel at milwaukee and ashland.

i just checked my wallet, my dominick's card is nowhere to be found. dang.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 4 October 2007 20:43 (sixteen years ago) link

Thanks for the offers, Sarah and Julia, but I talked to Kr and I think she is going to go to her parents' house this weekend to cook.

I called People's Energy back and tried to see if there really wasn't an earlier date they could come out. I made my frustration at the situation very clear -- being without cooking gas for 10 days is unreasonable -- but all they said was that it's a busy time of year.

jaymc, Thursday, 4 October 2007 20:45 (sixteen years ago) link

don't count on getting someone out faster.

if you call customer service at people's gas and make your inconvenience clear with management, sometimes you can get some money off since they're not holding up their end of the deal in hooking you up promptly, despite your prior efforts to have the transition go smoothly.

it's what i've been doing with comcast. i've gotten a good bit of my bill taken off because of their stunning incompetence.

JuliaA, Thursday, 4 October 2007 21:56 (sixteen years ago) link

new dominick's? chock full o'honeys.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 4 October 2007 22:38 (sixteen years ago) link

:D

river wolf, Thursday, 4 October 2007 22:44 (sixteen years ago) link

as one who is used to the ghettoized jewel in wicker park, it was a stark change. place seems nice, but smaller than it seems from the outside.

also, what's up with the russian women in the ukrainian village? the 15 year olds look 40 and the 50 year olds look 30. VERY CONFUSING.

chicago kevin, Thursday, 4 October 2007 22:47 (sixteen years ago) link

I need to go back to that little store kitty-corner from Tuman's. There was an incredibly fine cashier working there the only time I went in the place. Plus they make their own sausage so that's a plus, too.

dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 22:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Also she was VERY eastern euro, barely a word of english dropped out of her mouth, but man what a smile.

dan m, Thursday, 4 October 2007 22:59 (sixteen years ago) link

Of course now they'll probably be run out of business by that Dominick's.

GENERAL QUESTION:

WHERE TO

* SHOT REPAIR FOR CAR TIRE
* LAUNDROMAT WIF INTERNETS
* GIRLFRIEND LOL

river wolf, Thursday, 4 October 2007 23:29 (sixteen years ago) link

I like the 60, 90, and 120 minute IPA. It really depends on what flavor and alcohol level that I want. The 60 minute is a great session beer, the others for more special days.

Jeff, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:03 (sixteen years ago) link

I was kidding about s'mores. I've never made them.

Jeff, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:03 (sixteen years ago) link

lol @ "session beers"

mostly because it's so completely accurate.

river wolf, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:04 (sixteen years ago) link

naw, the russians/ukrainians/poles in the neighborhood don't go to chain stores, there are a bunch of ethnic places on chicago and a couple more on western. no one speaks english in any of the places, it's like a totally separate world.

chicago kevin, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:05 (sixteen years ago) link

i haven't been to tumans in many moons. ;_;

chicago kevin, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:06 (sixteen years ago) link

i think i've been to tuman's three times maybe, and the last time the waitstaff was all cute and all very flirty??

which is irritating, sort of, because it clouds the judgement and makes a person forget that the waitstaff NEVER ACTUALLY WANTS TO MAKE OUT WITH YOU

river wolf, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:08 (sixteen years ago) link

the waitstaff NEVER ACTUALLY WANTS TO MAKE OUT WITH YOU

this is incorrect.

chicago kevin, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:10 (sixteen years ago) link

at least there it is.

chicago kevin, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:10 (sixteen years ago) link

that's just sort of my default rule.

river wolf, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:11 (sixteen years ago) link

we'll go back sometime after i'm employed or perhaps after i sell this amp.

chicago kevin, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:14 (sixteen years ago) link

I used to think that about waitstaffs (staves?), but now it's the opposite: they get hit on by so many icky dudes in inappropriate ways that a nice dude like yourself actually has a pretty good shot.

Jordan, Friday, 5 October 2007 00:23 (sixteen years ago) link

my favorite craigslist apartment listing of the evening:

* I DONT WANT TO GIVE THIS APT UP
* BUT I HAVE TO FOR WORK
* THIS IS PERFECT FOR A FEMALE
* PLEASE BE NORMAL WITH A JOB

chicago kevin, Friday, 5 October 2007 01:59 (sixteen years ago) link

* SHOT REPAIR FOR CAR TIRE

I went to Cassidy Tire on Western just north of Belmont on the recommendation of my former landlords. No complaints.

dan m, Friday, 5 October 2007 08:19 (sixteen years ago) link

86 degrees today kids!

pls refer to me, english-learning professional. knowledge is power, education will open the door to your future etc. in fact, there is registration at truman coming up soon.

La Lechera, Friday, 5 October 2007 11:48 (sixteen years ago) link

rw, there's a tire place on Division across from Mas, I think it's called. It's really close to the Ashland intersection. We go there whenever we have a tire problem. They have lots of used tires there, are really quick, and it's inexpensive.

KitCat, Friday, 5 October 2007 13:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Also, you don't have to wait forever. They fix it right then and there.

KitCat, Friday, 5 October 2007 13:22 (sixteen years ago) link

What's that movie Jenny was pumped for? Is it out yet?
I want to go see a good movie to get the Simpsons movie out of my system.

KitCat, Friday, 5 October 2007 13:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Djeering looks good. I've liked Wes Anderson's movies without going nuts over them, and this one looks like it'll feel like getting out of the country for 90 minutes.

Eazy, Friday, 5 October 2007 13:50 (sixteen years ago) link

MySpace tells me:
Jesus would like to be added as one of your friends!

Eazy, Friday, 5 October 2007 13:52 (sixteen years ago) link

Must be nice havin' Jesus as a friend (assuming you added him).

So, my middle sis, though not engaged yet, is apparently planning (with her bf) on getting married in Peru in 2009 and I'm so excited about it already. So excited you guys.

KitCat, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Good morning. The CTA is a bitch, don't you agree?

Jesse, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:35 (sixteen years ago) link

And the weather is also a bitch.

And so was the woman I just had to deal with.

It's a bitchy morning.

Jesse, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Sorry. I regret spreading negative juices on your mornings.

TGIF, amirite OMG LOL!~!!

Jesse, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:38 (sixteen years ago) link

The 60 minute is a great session beer

Hahahaha, what does this mean?? I see beers described this way on the menu at Hopleaf and have always been puzzled.

jaymc, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:52 (sixteen years ago) link

At the Belgian Beer Festival They Told Us That A Session Beer is just what it sounds like--one that is easy-drinking (not overpowering on the palate, and not too alcoholic) so that you can drink more than a few in a session.

Jesse, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:53 (sixteen years ago) link

We also learned about BREAKFAST BEERS.

Jesse, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:53 (sixteen years ago) link

Re session beers: that is EXACTLY how I feel about Budweiser and also Modelo Especial.

Laurel, Friday, 5 October 2007 14:56 (sixteen years ago) link

You didn't like the Simpsons movie? I liked the Simpsons movie. :(

Jordan, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:00 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought it was too dark at parts.

KitCat, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:11 (sixteen years ago) link

I thought the Simpsons movie was pretty bad. There were some decent jokes but they've totally lost all idea of what the tone of The Simpsons is supposed to be. Plus WTF two-thirds of the movie not even taking place in Springfield, and most of the non-Simpson family characters (ie the funniest part of the show at this point) being reduced to one-line cameos. Needed more Milhouse.
That being said, I AM NOT ARGUING ABOUT THE SIMPSONS ON THE INTERNET.

n/a, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Bart is supposed to be a hellraiser, not some whiny kid with daddy issues.
Marge is supposed to be perpetually loyal, not someone who ditches her husband.
Lisa is supposed to be too smart, not a lovelorn, boy-crazy sap.
Homer was pretty good except for lame speech about marriage.
Maggie was Maggie.

n/a, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:14 (sixteen years ago) link

There is only one other woman in the office. I need to talk to her about her printer, but she's been on the phone for at least the past hour. So, instead, I am reading Bel Canto.

KitCat, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:15 (sixteen years ago) link

Lisa is supposed to be too smart, not a lovelorn, boy-crazy sap.

Not true. She's shown this side before.

I didn't think the movie was OMG AWESOME. But it played like an above-average extended episode of the series, so I was def. entertained, even though I chuckled only intermittently.

jaymc, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I enjoyed it a lot.

Jesse, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:21 (sixteen years ago) link

Yeah, I think there are precedents in the show for everything that happened in the movie. But we don't have to argue about it.

Jordan, Friday, 5 October 2007 15:22 (sixteen years ago) link

The animation was great.
