My oven/stove is the only modern appliance in my apartment, it is awesome.

It opened this past weekend. I only know because we got coupons in the mail.

i should check my mail. was it this past weekend that i walked by? because me and amy were literally standing at the corner of damen and chicago talking about how much more convenient it would be for me to go there than to the jewel at milwaukee and ashland.

i just checked my wallet, my dominick's card is nowhere to be found. dang.

I called People's Energy back and tried to see if there really wasn't an earlier date they could come out. I made my frustration at the situation very clear -- being without cooking gas for 10 days is unreasonable -- but all they said was that it's a busy time of year.

don't count on getting someone out faster.

if you call customer service at people's gas and make your inconvenience clear with management, sometimes you can get some money off since they're not holding up their end of the deal in hooking you up promptly, despite your prior efforts to have the transition go smoothly.

it's what i've been doing with comcast. i've gotten a good bit of my bill taken off because of their stunning incompetence.

as one who is used to the ghettoized jewel in wicker park, it was a stark change. place seems nice, but smaller than it seems from the outside.

also, what's up with the russian women in the ukrainian village? the 15 year olds look 40 and the 50 year olds look 30. VERY CONFUSING.

I need to go back to that little store kitty-corner from Tuman's. There was an incredibly fine cashier working there the only time I went in the place. Plus they make their own sausage so that's a plus, too.

Also she was VERY eastern euro, barely a word of english dropped out of her mouth, but man what a smile.

Of course now they'll probably be run out of business by that Dominick's.

I like the 60, 90, and 120 minute IPA. It really depends on what flavor and alcohol level that I want. The 60 minute is a great session beer, the others for more special days.

naw, the russians/ukrainians/poles in the neighborhood don't go to chain stores, there are a bunch of ethnic places on chicago and a couple more on western. no one speaks english in any of the places, it's like a totally separate world.

I used to think that about waitstaffs (staves?), but now it's the opposite: they get hit on by so many icky dudes in inappropriate ways that a nice dude like yourself actually has a pretty good shot.

rw, there's a tire place on Division across from Mas, I think it's called. It's really close to the Ashland intersection. We go there whenever we have a tire problem. They have lots of used tires there, are really quick, and it's inexpensive.

Also, you don't have to wait forever. They fix it right then and there.

Djeering looks good. I've liked Wes Anderson's movies without going nuts over them, and this one looks like it'll feel like getting out of the country for 90 minutes.

The 60 minute is a great session beer

Hahahaha, what does this mean?? I see beers described this way on the menu at Hopleaf and have always been puzzled.

At the Belgian Beer Festival They Told Us That A Session Beer is just what it sounds like--one that is easy-drinking (not overpowering on the palate, and not too alcoholic) so that you can drink more than a few in a session.

We also learned about BREAKFAST BEERS.

Re session beers: that is EXACTLY how I feel about Budweiser and also Modelo Especial.

You didn't like the Simpsons movie? I liked the Simpsons movie. :(

I thought it was too dark at parts.

I thought the Simpsons movie was pretty bad. There were some decent jokes but they've totally lost all idea of what the tone of The Simpsons is supposed to be. Plus WTF two-thirds of the movie not even taking place in Springfield, and most of the non-Simpson family characters (ie the funniest part of the show at this point) being reduced to one-line cameos. Needed more Milhouse.
That being said, I AM NOT ARGUING ABOUT THE SIMPSONS ON THE INTERNET.

I didn't think the movie was OMG AWESOME. But it played like an above-average extended episode of the series, so I was def. entertained, even though I chuckled only intermittently.

I enjoyed it a lot.

Yeah, I think there are precedents in the show for everything that happened in the movie. But we don't have to argue about it.
