Dan, I hope you follow their example - because I think if you could find the a narrative you love, you could draw the next Cerebus, Bone, or Sin City. Whatevs. Editorial cartooning, or even just daily cartooning, is a joke and a half unless in direct service of merchandising. Go forth and draw me a book, you son of a bitch.
And yeah, C&F, good riddance. That shit wasn't even nice to look at, much less think about.

But plz to not wind up like Dave Sim, and use your lettercols to have months-like arguments with readers over your particular views about women, for example.

I don't give a fuck what he does with the letters column, Voltaire's Candide is long overdue for a yiffstyle cover

With C&F gone and many other right-wing cartoonists being critical of the Bush administration, it looks like the golden age of batshittery has passed.
Also, is it just me or do new Day By Day strips make sense now?
― abanana, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 17:16 (sixteen years ago) link
nope, sorry. check the strip from 12/10. still batshit.

Romney one is pretty great, and Al Franken really can draw the lower 48 states real fast.
(I bet many of us could draw the 48 too.)
― Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 11 December 2007 19:25 (sixteen years ago) link
I tried drawing them all individually on a napkin and did a good job. My bar buddy could Identify 43 of them. That's a "B" - good enough for a dunken yrs truly.

Illinois is like a dagger. Missouri pokes holes into other states.

They're both kind of shaped like melted candles that were originally crafted by some kid at a pioneer festival booth.

How many wooden varnished clocks have been made to look like Montana? It's even big enough to have a thermometer glued to the side.
I know Sedaris has that story about the Oregon clocks.

A fact which was drilled into our heads for the two years I went to grade school in Tennessee, like Missouri was going to get uppity and try to steal their spot.

Taking a brief stroll thru the TownHall toons is a different experience than a year ago, as many of the strips are actually firing on each other's favored GOP candidate, with a few of your standard anti-Hillary and/or hilarious projecting bits that we've seen for years.
In other words, wow, these assholes REALLY don't like John McCain.
― kingfish, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 07:23 (sixteen years ago) link
there's something so exceedingly joyless about the eco claus cartoon above, like the cartoonist themselves can't quite commit to the premise, and knows they are just swinging at a strawman out of habit of muscle memory...

The beauty of Mallard Fillmore is that it's even weirder than it sounds. If you tried to describe it to someone and said, "Oh, it's a comic where a talking duck spews far-right talking points," you still wouldn't quite capture the bizarre universe of the strip.
