This is lame of me after making Lakeview suggestions yesterday, but I've got a rehearsal at 8:30 and so prolly can't make it.

Kenan, I got this this Nik Bartsch record last night and I think you might really like it. John too, maybe. It's like Steve Reich scored for jazz instrumentation, super restrained (10 min songs with no soloing to speak of).

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:19 (seventeen years ago) link

Or rather, Lakeview/Buena Park/Uptown.

push-ups from the knees use the muscles considerably less, yes, but a woman's center of gravity is in her hips, which ...would make me either have to bs or look up some physics to explain properly. the essence is that for women, that weight distribution makes the exercise a little bit different.

ones from the toes are still better, if you have the body strength for it.

Juulia (julesbdules), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

ooh. Thanks. That does sound up my alley.

OK folks, it's Bar on Buena. http://www.baronbuena.com/

It's just west of Broadway, on Buena.

Nick, Sarah, Kenan?

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

My center of gravity is different than it used to be. Or maybe it's just my GRAVITY, full stop. When I was in the 7th grade I did 70 push-ups in a stretch and wiped out everyone else in my PE class. But I weighed 120 pounds then.

Jesse... when exactly?

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:25 (seventeen years ago) link

I think around 6:30? Jenny (and maybe I) is/are going to yoga at 4, so after that.

pens, action figures and glass shards (unclejessjess), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:26 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh no, I can't do today. I'm a big sickie. Woke up with a fever = do not drink.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:27 (seventeen years ago) link

I will be the one wearing new tights.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:27 (seventeen years ago) link

hey y'all.

i'm here for a few weeks and need to get my hair cut. i'm sick of going to big hair since they started getting inundated with folks a few years ago and upped the prices to $20 (i don't mind paying this much but not for 'tude and a crappy cut).

so where can i get my hair cut in the city for under $35 that's pretty good?

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

p.s. hi everyone!

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey! Do you want to come have drinks with us? I'll cut your hair if you buy me a beer.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:31 (seventeen years ago) link

I go to Supercuts on Berwyn.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:32 (seventeen years ago) link

when are you going für drinks?? can you cut my hair BEFORE i buy you the beer??

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:32 (seventeen years ago) link

Jesse, Courtney, possible Jeff, and I are going to Bar on Buena at approximately 6:30. I cannot actually cut hair. Or, well, I technically can but you really don't want me to regardless of my state of intoxication.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I'd go to Supercuts before I went to Jenny. (No offense.)

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:35 (seventeen years ago) link

None taken.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:36 (seventeen years ago) link

SOCKS: Jenny, I also thought that my calves might just make the socks a little shorter, but some of their varieties actually CAN'T BE STRETCHED more than 16" or so inches around the the calf. They do sell *some* "larger" varities too but those have bigger feet as well as bigger calves and I only wear a size 7 shoe ferchrissake. I hope your tights fit supremely well and you are tres tres happy.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:37 (seventeen years ago) link

On second thought, maybe I will try to entice Jenny to cut my hair sometime. My haircut is REALLLL easy. And I just need a quick trim and a back-o-the-neck touchup.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Just to repeat: I do not cut hair. I was joking with Ama.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:40 (seventeen years ago) link

oh.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:41 (seventeen years ago) link

fine, i'll do it myself.

the next chicago thread shd be called 'that old car might be worth money'

Ha! Although I think it's "Is That Old Car Worth Money?" I saw the commercial the other day, and I don't know why I was surprised that it's still on the air. If it aired in 1986 and 1996, there's no reason it wouldn't air in 2006 and for the rest of eternity.

What was the place that had a kiosk at Intonation last year that served, oh my god, THE BEST pulled pork sandwich I've ever had?

Wishbone, maybe?

OTM. see also, new pot, oak park, il.

I've gotten takeout from New Pot before, and the place looks a lot nicer than most Thai places in Chicago...?

I like Smokin' Woody's near Lincoln and Montrose.

I walked by there the other day, and it smelled fantastic. I can't eat most of the actual BBQ at BBQ places, but I love the cuisine: mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, pecan pie, etc.

Bar on Buena

Ooh! I have been there. It's nice. I will join you.

Hi Amateurist!

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Jeff got me some Sock Dreams socks for my birthday that are tight but doable. Also, the striped ones are bigger (I have monster feet to match my freakishly large calves) so I should be cool. And the tights claim to fit women who are six feet tall and 200 pounds, and I am neither so I should be cool. If not, I'll send them back. And kill myself.

XPOST! Yay John!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Also, there's a bunch of year-end stuff on my blog, including my annual mix filled with crap I'm not even sure I like anymore, after listening to it so much.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:45 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm cool. No biggie. I'm cool. No biggie.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:48 (seventeen years ago) link

i am doing just fine... plugging along.

i think that i am going to find a job soon or at least look for one.

t0dd swiss (immobilisme), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:49 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm gonna try to make it to Bar Buena, possibly with my Yooper/Alaskan friend D3r3k in tow. Might be a little later as I gotta go home first and then figure out how to get my ass up there.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:51 (seventeen years ago) link

910 W. Buena Ave. It's on Broadway and Buena, a few blocks north of the Sheridan Red Line stop and a few blocks south of the Wilson stop.

Drivers: there is parking around there.

I think I may come tonight, too. Jenny, I owe you a belated post-finals beer!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:53 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh I ain't driving up there. Not after having to cut a good night short last time I was in the neighborhood for fear of not being able to contain my drunkening. No, it'll be CTA for me.

xposts yay everyone! :D

i think i'm going to try to make it as well as this day has been one long uwe von schammann soccer-style kick to the nads after another. plus if things go late i'm right near the hc. god i should probably just stay in.

any reasonably inexpensive second-hand places in lakeview area aside from flashy trash and the white elephant or whatever it's called?

sorry for all these questions.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

Are you a man, Amateurist? If so, the Belmont Barbershop is good. Young punky guys running the place, but old school all-around. Hot lather/razor on the neck and all.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

john -- will you zip up your year-end mix and send it to me? a disc at a time will be fine.

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

How are you liking/hating Madison?

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

reasonably inexpensive + lakeview? does not compute.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

I probably won't get there tonight until 7 or so.

Am, I get my hair cut for exactly $35 by a woman named Leanne at Orbit Salon. I don't know how full her schedule is, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Hey, and if you get your hair cut at the Belmont Barbershop, you can walk up to the Village Thrift at Roscoe and Hoyne afterwards.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 19:04 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, Kenan, I can zip. Remind me if I don't do so within the next few days. Audiophile warning: some files, if I didn't download them from Limewire, are 128kbps.
