What, just going up to AWinehouse, etc, going "rurrgh, I hates you" ?

That's crappy.

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:23 (fifteen years ago) link

Well alright fair point. But isn't that exactly what most newspapers and magazines are doing these days? And you could argue that few of their hacks are close personal friends or have even met Winehouse.

VeronaInTheClub, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:26 (fifteen years ago) link

Yeah, but at least they can avoid newspapers/magazines if they want to. But having people just slag them off to their face isn't more 'honest' it's just rude.

I'm sure I'm not saying anything you disagree with, so i'm not getting on any horses, high or no.

"If you don't happen to like them, pass them by" as the song almost goes.

Mark G, Wednesday, 13 August 2008 16:29 (fifteen years ago) link

OTM, I'm not disagreeing and that was a while ago, I built a bridge got over it etc and I'm no longer interested in petty squabbles whether they be with 'knowns' or 'unknowns'

CHESTER FRENCH

TOUR DATES POSTPONED

Chester French regret to announce the postponement of forthcoming tour dates due to illness.

It has been recommended by guitarist Max Drummey's doctors that he take some time off from the road due to personal health issues. A number of US dates have been postponed, as well as the UK run due to kick off this Friday at Club NME at KoKo in London.

Signed to Pharrell Williams’ Star Trak label, Chester French are Milwaukee-raised DA Wallach and Boston native Max Drummey, two friends who wrote and recorded their debut album Love the Future while in their final year studying at Harvard. Drawing on their love of everything from 60’s pop to hip-hop and putting in to practice the basics of song-writing they had learnt from listening closely to Bowie and the Beatles records, they put their unique songs to tape with Wallach handling most of the vocals and Drummey performing much of the music on an orchestra’s-worth of instruments. These recordings found their way in to the hands of Don C, Kanye West’s manager, who offered them a deal. Competing offers from Jermaine Dupri and Pharrell Williams quickly followed. Encouraged by Pharrell’s promise of complete creative control, the duo singed to Star Trak.

Chester French will release their debut album Love The Future on Star Trak in 2009.

The backlash to that Nylon column is some of the funniest mean spiritedness I've seen since, oooh, the last ILx response to a Laura Barton column.

A spokeswoman for Peaches Geldof said she would continue to split her time between New York and London on various media and fashion projects, while Mr Drummey will be continuing his music with his band Chester French.

Is "various media and fashion projects" a new euphemism for "lots of drugs"?

James Mitchell, Saturday, 7 February 2009 22:56 (fifteen years ago) link

Don't worry, we haven't heard the last of Max Drummey I'm sure.

Bob Geldof's statement

Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us.

Writing "was" destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever. How sad that sentence is.

Tom and her sons Astala and Phaedra will always belong in our family, fractured so often, but never broken.

Bob, Jeanne, Fifi, Pixie and Tiger Geldof.

The only thing I really knew about Peaches Geldof was that she seemed the sort who would die at 25. Sad to hear she had apparently cleaned up, but then ... maybe she didn't.

Haven't read or seen anything about this death anywhere but here, tbh. Do people know who she is in the States? Anyway, I do honestly feel bad about her and her extended family, who have indeed dealt with a lot. I also honestly didn't know anything about her except that I thought she was the type destined to die young (like, say, the Libertines guy). The Monday thing I was half-serious about, since in the States Boomtown Rats are a one-hit wonder punchline and that song in particular is often trotted out as its own punchline, but it never occurred to me that people would actually publically use such a tasteless joke. Here? Eh. I'm not sure it is worse than the Brad Delp/Cobain joke that made me wince elsewhere. But all's fair.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 7 April 2014 21:26 (ten years ago) link

oh give me some credit, that Delp/Cobain joke was definitely worse.

She was famous for being the type of person you should hate - rich and privileged and stupid and reaping more riches and privilege and stupidity off the back of that - but at the same time she seemed pretty OK, in the minutes I paid attention to her at least. Maybe too nervous and thoughtful or something. Google her face and it's never hateful, just sad.

it's really sad. yes, she was rich. she was also born into more crazy and tragedy than most.

Except he's still alive and he's about 40. Don't recommend annoying the guy at parties though, you might just die young if you do that.

i didn't even know bob geldoff had a daughter, but she came across as smart, thoughtful, and feisty in that clip above.

(by contrast, that katie hopkins came across as a horrible, moralizing, tsk-tsker. who is she, and why did they make her and peaches geldoff sit uncomfortably close together on that normal-sized tv chat couch?)
