It means that you're not hyper-obsessed with dance/electronic music. I only recognized 5 or 6 of them.

Yeah, none familiar here

I like dance/electronic music a lot and have the same issue. But I have heard Drew (and his partner) DJ before. :D

Dr3w will you DJ my next party?
Dr3w will you DJ an exclusive transcontinental video-streamed GAYLXtravaganza?

How about my wedding-not-wedding? ;)

lou, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 16:37 (fourteen years ago) link

ok. i get overwhelmed simetimes at just how much music i have absolutely zero knowledge of. which is usually good (more to discover) but sometimes makes me feel woefully underexposed ("why does everyone seem to know about this shit except me").

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 16:46 (fourteen years ago) link

i don't know any of those songs except for "somebody else's guy." i don't like feel bad about it, but if any of them are like "somebody else's guy," you should probably let me know because that's one of my favorite songs of all time

big (surm), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 16:48 (fourteen years ago) link

The Armand track is pretty hysterical. Also some of the gayest sounds ever recorded.

queen frostine (Eric H.), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 16:52 (fourteen years ago) link

not that i've heard everything in that set but i'd wager that the sister sledge track is closest in sound/spirit to jocelyn, surm

all-beef patty hearst (donna rouge), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 17:00 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, "Thinking of You" was a huge Sister Sledge hit in the UK and is kind of a "deep cut" for Americans, it got sampled by lots of people (Meat Beat Manifesto used it best in "Re-Animator"). It makes me really happy everytime I hear it, without fail.

"I'm thinking of you, and the things you do / that make me love you, now I'm livin' in Ecstasy"

the person I wish was more well known is Jay Karan- he makes vogue beats and chants for drag balls, he's a legendary ball scene figure and his tracks like "Who's In Charge of the Girls?" and "I Declare War" and "Bitch You'll Gag" are the dictionary definition of *fierce cunty dramatic ovah*

wait...this is that absolutely insane track you played in seattle at the sunset tavern that mackro & I tracked down but I subsequently forgot about, isn't it?

the real dangers horses in black neighborhoods face (The Reverend), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 18:13 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, his tracks are hard to find but I think "I Don't Like That Bitch (I Don't See her)" is on iMeem or something.

twice boiled cabbage is death, Wednesday, 24 March 2010 18:16 (fourteen years ago) link

sucks

big (surm), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 18:18 (fourteen years ago) link

only found a short (one minute) track on soulseek but that's been enuf to interest me in finding more

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Wednesday, 24 March 2010 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

"who's in charge" is on youtube also

SATURDAY: What time should we meet, and where? Julius was nice last time, should we do that again?

every potty I know can be found here (Stevie D), Thursday, 25 March 2010 19:34 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't know what it's like on a Sat night. There's no new-wave night @Metrop, tho, so defer to elmo? Is he staying in Bklyn?

Woke up for good about 5:15 this morning, so I'll only be drinking til maybe 11:30 tonight.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:10 (fourteen years ago) link

i'll be staying in bklyn on sat night, in wburg i think? i don't know the bars but would like to be in a place where talking / seating is possible, at least to start.

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Best options might be either Metro or Nowhere (in Manh off the L) then

all-beef patty hearst (donna rouge), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, the Metrop back patio will be open but it's supposed to be coolish (better than Friday though).

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I've never been to Nowhere but I've been meaning to! Is that tabley/seaty though?

every potty I know can be found here (Stevie D), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm down for wherever! really, i trust the wisdom of the gaylx crowd

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 25 March 2010 20:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I don't remember any big tables @ Nowhere, just small ones and some kinda rickety couches in the back?

This Saturday, March 27th BUTT will be participating in the 2nd annual Rainbow Book Fair in New York City at CUNY (365 5th Avenue at 34th St) from 11 – 5:30PM. We’ll be selling back issues of BUTT to help fill in your collection, along with the remaining stock of the BUTT 2010 Calendar at a discounted rate. We’ll also be conducting ONE QUESTION INTERVIEWS as a special bonus to encourage our fans and readers to come out and support the fair and all the other zines and booksellers in attendance. Questions from previous BUTT interviews will be placed in a bowl at random, and anyone who comes by will get the chance to pick a question at random and answer it, with the results appearing here on the blog. So if you’ve always wanted to be interviewed for the BUTT Blog, clear your calendar for Saturday, and we’ll see you at the fair. THE FAIR IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!!

might check this out if i feel like making the trip to midtown

elmo, I don't remember if you're a carnivore, but if ian wants to I recommend the post-11pm $3 pork sandwiches at Fette Sau in W'burg. (maybe dr & Steve wd be down for this?)

no JC Mitchell last night @Mattachine, but Steve got to hug a Scottish celeb.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Friday, 26 March 2010 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 March 2010 20:45 (fourteen years ago) link

I would've just asked him to do his flirty lines from Eyes Wide Shut.

I had to leave around the time the throng was blocking my view of a hot longhaired Latino Mark Bolan/Johnny Depp wannabe in aviator shades. xp

I dunno, I'm meeting a friend in Park Slope for drinks at 6, so anytime after is OK for me.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Friday, 26 March 2010 20:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i may drop in somewhat later than originally anticipated since this thesis isn't going to write itself, unfortunately

my appearance may also be somewhat brief (another friend is having bday drinks nearby)

all-beef patty hearst (donna rouge), Friday, 26 March 2010 21:27 (fourteen years ago) link

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 March 2010 21:30 (fourteen years ago) link

(I can't do the mobile phone Let's Plan 5 Minutes In Advance thing)

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Friday, 26 March 2010 21:36 (fourteen years ago) link

pretty sure i'll be in wburg but won't know address until later.

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Friday, 26 March 2010 21:56 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm leaving in an hour or two to go to that BUTT thing. So we're doing metrop, right? What time's best for err'one?

every potty I know can be found here (Stevie D), Saturday, 27 March 2010 14:13 (fourteen years ago) link

ok so i'm right near the graham ave L so i am right nearby, yes? depending on when the good doctor m. is available, shall we say -- 8? 8.30? later?

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Saturday, 27 March 2010 15:35 (fourteen years ago) link
