yay! i was thinking of the hideout because i like it and i have not been there since i was here last march! it's big and could fit people, i think. or we could go someplace less 'nice' (though i think they have some cheap drink specials).
― tehresa, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 01:04 (fourteen years ago) link

― Jaq, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 20:29 (fourteen years ago) link

― tehresa, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 22:44 (fourteen years ago) link
I've used Nice Moves for our last 3 moves, highly recommended.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 22:56 (fourteen years ago) link
Where do you have to set the pod? b/c I would not want to be carrying stuff up or down that hill! I guess you can't block the sidewalk or the street there though.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 22:59 (fourteen years ago) link
ooh dude on phone was v v nice. thanks, jaq! you are always the best source of info!the pod will go in my driveway. with dolly i think it would be fine. or they can go out the basement steps.
― tehresa, Tuesday, 30 March 2010 23:12 (fourteen years ago) link

Mr Jaq and I will be there, probably 7:30ish though.

the nation's most diverse zip code is right the fuck here yall
― est 2010 (rahni), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link
I've been focusing in that zip code as our next potential place to live (July eta).

Jaq, you FOOL, you're going to leave your KITCHEN?

Beacon Hill is not a livable neighborhood. Rainier valley isn't any better. Houses are as cheap as they get in Seattle, but you're stuck driving everywhere and crime stats are way up in those areas. I'd never move south of Cherry. Diversity doesn't mean shit when there are no good grocery stores, cafes, record shops, book stores etc.etc.etc.
― brotherlovesdub, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 19:28 (fourteen years ago) link
damn u sound hell of snobbish plz stay north of cherry
― est 2010 (rahni), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 19:34 (fourteen years ago) link
and stuck driving everywhere? what are you talking about, light rail runs right through and there are lots of buses. beacon hill and rainier valley are far MORE accessible than other neighborhoods.
― est 2010 (rahni), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 19:35 (fourteen years ago) link
no shit. After living in New Holly through all that light rail construction on MLK, I want to move back down there and actually ride the thing on the regular. It adds less than 15 minutes to my commute to Redmond from the Othello station. It's also a simple commute for Mr. Jaq to Sodo/near west Seattle via train/bike (or bus).
I will say that the area immediately around the Mt. Baker station is not a good neighborhood, but has the unparalleled Water Wizard 2.0 car wash and Mutual Fish and Remo Borrachini's bakery. The neighborhood around the Beacon Hill station is fantastic though - so much good food and the library etc etc etc.
Laurel will ysi or transporter it asap.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 20:00 (fourteen years ago) link
Georgetown is also a strong possibility btw.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link
If I want inaccessible and have to drive everywhere lifestyle, I will move to Magnolia.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

srsly. we are looking there again. a combination mexican/chinese grocery store? multiple philipino restaurants? the fruit market on 15th ave s? light rail and library. a couple miles from downtown, close to little saigon and the ID, and a 20 minute train ride to the airport. not much else i care about. i'm not a whole foods guy. i buy my books online (;_; if u must). maybe capitol hill and downtown and u-dist have more of everything nearby, but i can't afford the first two and fuck that last one. beacon hill is great. and don't get me started on my love of georgetown.
― est 2010 (rahni), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link
There's a great mexican place next to the philipino place that is <something> Kitchen - it has huaraches, which you just don't get at the typical Seattle mexican place. Also, Willie's Taste of Soul BBQ is so so good, is now down the hill on the Rainier side somewhere, used to be more down toward New Holly.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 20:28 (fourteen years ago) link
Not trying to be 'hell of snobbish', just stating my preference to pay rent somewhere livable vs. buy property in a neighborhood i've lived in before and absolutely hated.

Of all the neighborhoods I've lived in here (QA, madrona, denny-blaine, cap hill, belltown, new holly, cd, psquare), the only one I would never move back to is Belltown fwiw.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 21:30 (fourteen years ago) link
I don't know why anyone would ever live in belltown cept for the views!
God I miss seattle a ton already u_u

the sunny jim plant on airport way south burned down today. http://www.blogginggeorgetown.com/2010/09/old-sunny-jim-building-up-in-smoke.html
i got interested in it a while back, it being one of the few abandoned but architecturally interesting buildings in town.
graffiti types would break in put stuff up. the slog did a thing on it: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/death-and-graffiti/Content?oid=3899212 http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2010/04/22/our-graffiti-is-better-than-your-graffiti
here it is from back in february, i never went inside:

Not very far from my house and seriously messed up the commute home. Really hoping no one was inside - it was an inferno.

thx for the links, btw. I hadn't connected the slog posts with that building.
