Never updated my 1st generation Touch to OS 3.0 - hopefully a fraction of the features can make it over. No reason stuff like customizable home and lock screen wallpaper shouldn't be available.

iPad isn't half bad, btw.

Sent from my iPad.

Multitasking works really well. Rebuilt Zing to use it (and fix nasty 4.0 bug) and it's weird how it just loads up exactly where it was, hours later.

I haven't played an iPhone game that kept me interested for more than a day or two. Even Angry Birds and Implode lack replayability - once I was done I didn't really care to go back and try for more stars/higher difficulty.

I am v. v. bad at Orbital Supernova. My high score is 26 - I think I'm missing something re: strategy.

I just get impatient with the thing moving back and forth. I end up taking stupid chances.

"The new 15-inch and 17-inch MacBook Pro models feature Intel Core i5 and i7 processors and Apple's new automatic graphics switching technology that toggles seamlessly between powerful NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M and energy efficient Intel HD Graphics processors."

fuck, so this means I'm never going to have seamless graphic cards switching on my mbp? ;_;

also lol2008 processor in the 13" : / why no i5 or even i3?

etrian odysseus (cozen), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:17 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah and it gets a sucky graphics professor

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:19 (fourteen years ago) link

I guess in the past there has never been great differentiation between the 13" and the 15" so they're finally widening the gap

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:20 (fourteen years ago) link

13" macbook pro replaced the upper half of the ibook line, so it makes sense that it is relatively underspecced

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:21 (fourteen years ago) link

that's dumb.

i have a 15" right now and the 13" is just the perfect size! tho shit maybe i'll just wait for the imac to get upgraded and then throw in an ipad or something

GREAT JOB Mushroom head (gbx), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:22 (fourteen years ago) link

^^^ flawless victory

i still maintain that the 12" PB should have made it to the intel era, although I guess they were thinking iPad by then. if they made it now it would be very much a niche, although nerds like me would be down.

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:25 (fourteen years ago) link

still no ipad news

I've seen prices as low as £329 mentioned but I'm thinking around £400 for the lowest model. might go for £389 for that sub-£400 tagline

etrian odysseus (cozen), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:26 (fourteen years ago) link

12" PB was so great for college

max, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:27 (fourteen years ago) link

macbook air replaced the 12" I think

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:27 (fourteen years ago) link

I was waiting for the update, wanted to get 13" but bummed there's no processor update. Figuring now I'd be happier with the 15" for size and for the no-glare/hi-res screen, so much more appropriate for doing design work away from the desk than the 13"...but was also thinking about using it for DJing in which case the little 13" would've been better just on size alone.

dan selzer, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:27 (fourteen years ago) link

macbook air is thin but not small

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:29 (fourteen years ago) link

going by current $=£ conversion the 13"mcbook pro starting price should be around £750. give them a bit of leeway and i would think £850 would be reasonable not £999.

jed_, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:30 (fourteen years ago) link

btw does anyone know if iPad can play movies you have obtained uh elesewhere

GREAT JOB Mushroom head (gbx), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:30 (fourteen years ago) link

i guess that was their goal, but i would like to see a small ultraportable laptop now the ipad exists for people who care about weight. 12" pb had a footprint that was quite a lot smaller than the air.

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:31 (fourteen years ago) link

gbx: i think if quicktime on your mac will play them then so will ipad (assuming you aren't dependent on perian or whatever on your mac)

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:32 (fourteen years ago) link

$1199 = £778
+ 17.5% VAT =

£914.15

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:33 (fourteen years ago) link

you can transcode using handbrake gbx

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:33 (fourteen years ago) link

oh i forgot vat lol

jed_, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:34 (fourteen years ago) link

yes, if you feel like losing the will to live that is certainly an option

xpost

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:34 (fourteen years ago) link

caek that's true but volumewise the air is much much smaller than the pb, and actually the 13" mbp is slimmer by 2 cubic inches than the old 2"

but yeah apple hasn't made anything with as small a footprint as the 12" since the intel era

fuck in rainbows, ☔ (dyao), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:35 (fourteen years ago) link

historically 1$ ~= 1£ in apple land if you buy retail, and they don't make huge efforts to keep up with movements in the currency market

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:35 (fourteen years ago) link

dyao, yeah, if you asked me if I wanted an air or a 12" pb, i would take the air! i would just like to see the air be smaller, even it that made it 1/100th inch thicker, which seems to be their marketing's main concern.

caek, Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:37 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah the inability to drag and drop vids to ipod and ipad's is the worst thing ever (tho somewhat understandable, I wish they'd at least accept more codecs/filetypes)

etrian odysseus (cozen), Tuesday, 13 April 2010 14:45 (fourteen years ago) link

waiting for somebody to port VLC to the iapp store
