facebook chat is actually well-implemented as far as I can tell, not that I'd use it for anything other than accidentally catching someone online
― mh, Wednesday, 23 April 2008 19:39 (sixteen years ago) link
i'd like it if i could use jabber clients with it

when you remove ppl from your friends list, do they receive notification?
― braveclub, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:02 (sixteen years ago) link
No, I just took someone off this weekend (was in my address book, I don't really know her) - it asks for confirmation and says the person won't be notified.
― Jaq, Monday, 19 May 2008 19:04 (sixteen years ago) link
I really wish actual friends would stop using facebook to shove their businesses/personal interests down my throat. No I don't want to become a fan of your fucking contracting company. No I don't want to be 'invited' to your latest podcast about manga.

haha
― admrl, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 21:07 (sixteen years ago) link
i just removed a friend because she was posting too many pictures and comments and the constant notifications were clogging up my home page. i would have preferred not to de-friend her but i don't think there's any other way to do it.
― get bent, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:23 (sixteen years ago) link
You can tell it to "show less" from particular friends, and it will, as long as your other friends are doing enough stuff.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:27 (sixteen years ago) link
It's under the preferences link down at the bottom of the news feed section.
― Jaq, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:29 (sixteen years ago) link
Really?? Brilliant.
I've not removed anyone yet, but I have ignored all invitation from one person who kept flooding my screen with invitations to every rubbish app she could get her hands on.
― Autumn Almanac, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:49 (sixteen years ago) link
nice one. my mate's sister spends all day adding friends, making comments, posting photos, etc... so abut half the "news" i get is her facebook-addict activity. i don't want to delete her tho, so this "show less" thing sounds good...
― jeremy waters, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:52 (sixteen years ago) link
omg this is fantastic. Thank you so much.

I just got rid of mine.
― Abbott, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 22:57 (sixteen years ago) link
I was going to get rid of mine but found removing a heap of cockfarmers I went to school and uni with was a good solution.
― wilter, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 23:02 (sixteen years ago) link
But then there would be no one! (but ilxors)
― Abbott, Tuesday, 20 May 2008 23:02 (sixteen years ago) link
i keep trying to get my bf on facebook (and ilx!) but he's all "no, i don't need another internet thing in my life." apparently there's some sort of "real world" out there he likes better. :-(

If you are getting fed up of all the vampires, booze mail and super wall posts, then help could be on the way.
HEEEEEELP! I HAVEN'T FIGURED OUT HOW TO IGNORE AND DELETE THINGS I HAVE NO INTEREST IN!
I would like to permanently skip the screen that wants me to invite all my friends to whatever I'm doing, though. And I would like for every dumb-ass quiz I take to not be an "application." That shit really is choking the site.

What's jarring here is that she's a big fundy who does missionary tours of Africa selling her crazy right-wing god to people who are trying to mind their own business.

Oh my.
S**** H**** joined the group "Proud to be English and want this great country to feel like ours again."
― ENBB, Friday, 30 May 2008 19:03 (sixteen years ago) link
It's the end of the school year, so I just got a lot of invitations to things like my friends' student art shows and plays and recitals. This annoys me because not only am I not in college, I am not IN THE SAME COUNTRY, and they all know this. But noooo, facebook makes it too easy to just invite everyone.
― Maria, Friday, 30 May 2008 19:43 (sixteen years ago) link
That is indeed ridiculous. People think they're being nice/inclusive when they invite people who are abroad, but all it does is give them the shits.

I DON'T CARE IF YOU'VE BECOME A FAN OF FUCKING ADAM SANDLER/BUTCHER'S CHOICE SAUSAGES/POL POT
HOW DO I STOP THIS
― MPx4A, Friday, 20 June 2008 09:42 (sixteen years ago) link
I am gonna make a secret Curvy Colombian Wife application and not invite you
― Just got offed, Friday, 20 June 2008 09:44 (sixteen years ago) link
you probably shouldn't be friends with Adam Sandler/Pol Pot fans in the first place
although sausages seem acceptable enough
― asey, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:44 (sixteen years ago) link
you can't. thanks zuckerberg!
― DG, Friday, 20 June 2008 12:56 (sixteen years ago) link
Facebook invites are STUPID. People fucking know very well that I'm on the other side of the country BECAUSE IT SAYS SO ON MY PROFILE PAGE THAT I KNOW YOU WERE LOOKING AT BECAUSE YOU GOT OFFENDED WHEN I LIED AND SAID I WAS GOING TO BE WITH FAMILY BUT REALLY YOU KNEW I WAS AT A RAVE AND AVOIDING YOUR NEEDY ASS, WE'RE NOT A COUPLE or even not even in the same country yet they still invite you. I'd be fine with this if I ever got more than three days notice and they still expect an excuse. Wtf? Also I've made my page extremely private, I even have a special group for former church people so that I can avoid the usual 'I prayed for you today, thats okay, god loves you' but I can still look at their pages and see that oh yeah, they are still having that affair with the church pastor. Hmm, small world.

Anita Bhagat Patel just joined Facebook. You both live in Chicago. If you know Anita, perhaps you should add Anita as a friend. See more people you may know.
They can't be serious, right?
