I miss coming home from school and watching Jeopardy!. It's been on Ch. 7 at 3:30 for at least 15 years.

it was on at four or four thirty in boston when i was in high school, me and my dad would watch it when he got home from work. then it was on again at 7 or 7:30.

my brother in law lost to that dude who won like 700 times in a row and made 16 billion dollars in the process.

Yeah, my dad would frequently be getting home from his afternoon bike ride in time for the show. The vision I have is him on the floor of the TV room, doing leg lifts in nothing but spandex, barking out the answers.

Memories I have of my dad when I was little do not include:

nh lakes region was to pricey for my family as a kid, the family across the street used to summer there every year. as a teen and 20 something we'd make occasional day and weekend trips up there, it's beautiful. i have fond memories of alton bay.

dan, they share names with michigan towns but i'm not sure they're named after them. i'd guess marquette st was named after the explorer. saginaw and muskegon are both indian names. bessemer park was named after henry bessemer, the english inventor who developed the bessemer process of steelmaking.

It's just ruining my work, at least on these weeks when there are no pressing tasks and I'm just supposed to be studying and doing projects. My nights and weekends are internet-free.

My mom just called to tell me her cousin died. Then she asked if Nick and I would go to the wake, which will be in DeKalb, and bring a floral arrangement. I think it's too big of a coincidence that they're all next to each other, though. There is at least a precedent with the streets of north of Andersonville being named after Philadelphia suburbs -- Berwyn, Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, Hollywood -- owing to the fact that the guy who developed the neighborhood around the turn of the century was from Philadelphia.

the city of iron mountain michigan has the streets named and laid out just as detroit does (though on a smaller scale). it was supposedly done to try to attract workers from detroit, the theory being they would already know their way around. my old boss built the post office there when he worked for the GSA in the mid 70s.

My most infuriating displeasure is finding rotting easter eggs--little surprises that the predecessor left. Every couple of days there's something new to clog up my workflow. Today I made sense of a big case's file only to find a whole new drawer with the mysterious label "TBF."

TBF means old shit that I was too lazy to file, so I stuck it in a drawer.

I began the day bitching, and so I will end it, apparently.
