Oh it was pretty awesome and everything, but to me it was sort of a one time thing, and to others I think they think doors have opened up and that things can happen again in the future but I do not really want this.

that looks like so much fun!
queer punk land party was amazing. lots of great people, working on awesome farm-type projects, sex in the woods, views of mount shasta, great bands, intense amounts of drinking...and hey, se4n and i talked, and though we weren't ever not good friends, we're good friends on good terms again. lots of specific things said, but in the end, we did a long hug. so, feeling pretty good about stuff right now.

saw (and loved!) 'times square' tonight as part of the monthly queer/art/film series at the IFC center. the producers apparently excised a scene where nicky and pammy actually kiss
also the hosts showed trailers for films that they wanted to show but for which they couldn't locate a print, including this '70s schlock-sploitation curio (KJB have you seen this?):

Also, gays, is it unreasonable to assume that most everyone knows about the Stonewall riots? Coz I was having a conversation with two pretty intelligent (straight) people last night and neither of them knew what it was (one recalled it after I explained but didn't remember the name).

not too surprising, stevie. hell, most people in nyc didn't even know it was happening at the time and i'd bet lots of (esp. young) homos don't know about it at all.

fwiw, I'd never heard of them until I started reading lots of stuff about gay rights
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 16:02 (fourteen years ago) link
for some reason, i find this whole 'not knowing about stonewall' thing incredibly crazy. it's like not knowing about the 'i have a dream' speech, imho.

xp tabes I feel the same way until I realize that we are both A) gay and not only that but B) super-immersed in the history of it all; wd be so rich if I had $1 for every book I read/paper I wrote/class I took on queer theory or representations of gay men or whatever.

even the queer theory stuff I read is mostly about the intersections of race & sexuality, and for all sorts of unfortunate reasons this tends to be very seperated from white gay history
― The Reverend, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 17:05 (fourteen years ago) link
I mean, I'VE known about Stonewall since I was a teen. But its somewhere below the Teapot Dome scandal in most US history classes, mo doubt.

i mean, stuff was always mentioned peripherally in classes...in my public middle school, i remember it being mentioned by name but not really talked about.
and this ain't bragging, it's more just my own life story, but i think that some of my shock comes from the fact that i was so immersed in this history from the time i was young, being a 12-year-old punk kid who was lucky enough to grow up being friends with people like the guyz from Limpwrist, as well as literary types who gave me Ginsberg and Frank O'Hara books and whatnot. i don't judge people who don't know about this history, but i definitely find it a little sad and weird that it isn't more well-known. that said, i'm sure that 'Milk' did raise the profile of the early gay-rights movement for a lot of people, for better or for worse. (i only add that caveat b/c that film is just eh, and b/c of other issues that surrounded my own viewing of it that i've talked about before).
anyway, i need to finish writing this article on Azari & III:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWfNvPqKRJ0
