maybe my favorite Jerry moment ever with Anne there.

xp i think it's merely the universal cheesiness of "highway to the danger zone" being referenced. that sure was a great running gag in Archer

Nhex, Saturday, 15 May 2010 03:04 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah? well I am a funny asshole.

loved mustache guy loving the budget cuts

last week I loved the part when Indian dude is driving the car and tall man in the back seat says something like "you can scoot back" and Indian dude is like "no I can't"

CaptainLorax I would love to know your names for all the other characters, for real.

i just saw this show for the first time on an airplane. it was amusing and kind of charming. i love amy poehler. that aziz fellow wasn't funny, but i viewed him as less of an attempt at making a "zany" character and more of a set-up fellow for the head of the office, who i thought was pretty funny. i realize their roles are supposed to be the other way around.

i've never seen the office. is parks & recreation a carbon-copy of it?

― Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 15 May 2010 10:28 (14 minutes ago)

No, P&R is much more amiable and less zany.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 15 May 2010 10:45 (fourteen years ago) link

Ron Swanson/mustache guy/the head of the office is quite often the funniest person in any given episode, fwiw.

totally

Daniel, Esq., Saturday, 15 May 2010 13:15 (fourteen years ago) link

seriously crushing on the bartender at the end of the episode, btw.

Matt Armstrong, Saturday, 15 May 2010 22:26 (fourteen years ago) link

you should've seen her in The Middleman - always too cute for that show

Nhex, Saturday, 15 May 2010 22:47 (fourteen years ago) link

That bartender was supercuet! Loved that Andy called Jean-Ralphio "Ralph Macchio"...and Ron awkward-consoling April was awesome

yeah, bartender is instant ws

PresidentLogan, Sunday, 16 May 2010 05:08 (fourteen years ago) link

love that she consistently tells off Steve Agee on twitter because he is unfunny as shit. also duh she's great, P&R is great

Andrew Kornfan, Sunday, 16 May 2010 07:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I knew Aubrey Plaza and I were on the same page when I saw her Sarah Silverman impression.

<3 Ron Swanson.

Dunno about you guys, but I think just having dinner with Nick Offerman and Megan Mullally would be quite a time.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 08:58 (fourteen years ago) link

that is an extremely high quality impression

Just saw that P&R has been pushed back to midseason on NBC next year, despite the fact that they're already shooting it ahead of/during Poehler's pregnancy. Apparently they're making room on Thursday nights for Outsourced (http://www.thewrap.com/ind-column/nbc-picks-love-bites-event-outsourced-17102). Look, I appreciate that network tv needs a more diverse pallet of characters, and that NBC probably spent a lot of money shooting a show on location in India, but why you gonna fuck with Thursday night like that?

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:02 (fourteen years ago) link

every week I'm like, aw I dunno if I feel like watching P&R anymore and then Ron Swanson does something that blows my mind.

Well, because whatever happened changed him. (Dr. Superman), Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:29 (fourteen years ago) link

what a disaster for shitty office knock-offs

coming so incorrect ^

Mordy, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

The first three episodes of the first season were shitty Office knockoffs. That is SO not the case anymore. The Office doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as P&R anymore, considering how inferior The Office is.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

*makes face for camera*

oh my god. The Office invented reaction shots????

Mordy, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:36 (fourteen years ago) link

ur fronting

this show is an "office" rip

not all of it is terrible, but it is p g damn mediocre

outsourced is prob gonna be pretty terrible

contl;drizer (J0rdan S.), Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:41 (fourteen years ago) link

nah, you're totally off-base, hm. show grew the beard after the first bunch of episodes and is now often brilliant.

Mordy, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

well there's no accounting for taste, but i gave up at the easter break

"community" is just streets ahead

i can see you not liking it, but if you were watching it until the easter break it's hard to believe you felt it was an Office clone. such a different tone -- it focuses on the characters + their relationships much more, where the Office often feels slapstick and you can rarely empathize with the Office characters.

Mordy, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i haven't seen "office" post-series 3, but it was str8 fire at that point. i didn't empathize with ne of the P&R characters tbqh.

idk. office has gotten so bad lately that i feel retroactively skeptical that it was ever good -- even tho i used to love it at one point.

Mordy, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:51 (fourteen years ago) link

I actually kind of appreciate that P&R still plays like a docu-comedy w/o ever acknowledging that. I mean, they have asides and reaction shots, but WHAT ARE THEY LOOKING AT AND WHO ARE THEY TALKING TO? It's kind of fun that they break the fourth wall all the time yet are still some of the most humanized characters in any sitcom on tv.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:53 (fourteen years ago) link

^ this.

I can't remember which episode it was this season that finally put me off it, but I haven't watched it in weeks.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:53 (fourteen years ago) link

Just noticed Diedrich Bader will be on Outsourced. Hello '90s!

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 18:57 (fourteen years ago) link

obviously tom's offer to host weighed the scales in its favor, but otherwise april woulda never had her 21st at his corny ass slicknuts nightclub. it would have been much more in keeping with her character, as someone who has no tolerance for that kind of contemporary kewl, to force the gang to party at some cobwebbey ol bowling alley bar. anyway the show is now permanently ruined because of this

does rob lowe look like a motherfucker with some dark secrets to anyone else btw

iiiijjjj, Sunday, 16 May 2010 19:04 (fourteen years ago) link

21 year olds have their birthday parties at places you might not think they would. Plus, this is Pawnee, IN... not exactly a place with a bunch of options. Tom hosting it makes perfect sense, and hardly ruins the show in any way.

Rob Lowe is definitely a twelve-stepper or scientologist (or both).

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 19:08 (fourteen years ago) link

if pawnee is large enough to support a full-time parks & rec dept then they're large enough to have a dilapidated bowl-a-rama; THEY BLEW IT

iiiijjjj, Sunday, 16 May 2010 19:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm just saying people often do things out of character on 21st birthdays. I dressed up in a suit and went with friends to the expensive lounge at the Hilton two towns over. Hated it, but it seemed like a good way to turn 21.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 16 May 2010 19:20 (fourteen years ago) link

i believe you, i'm just sayin if tv show characters do things out of character on their tv show then the tv show is consequently irreparable and must be cancelled post-haste

iiiijjjj, Sunday, 16 May 2010 19:26 (fourteen years ago) link

Never even thought of April going to a club (probably the only one or two big-sized clubs in Pawnee) was out of character. Also April is supposed to be a bit of a mystery imo

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 16 May 2010 19:58 (fourteen years ago) link

What really kept the Office going was Jim and Pam and now there needs to be Jim and Pam doppledangers in the office (Andy and Erin don't make the cut)

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 16 May 2010 20:00 (fourteen years ago) link

I wish Andy and Erin could be plucked out of The Office and cast in another show. Not one starring them necessarily, but they're too likeable to be trapped in that bomb.
