If I can't buy anything Tim, can I still make love not war? And like just have a really groovy time man.

Martin, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No, you can't.

Tim, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I don't care how common something is, it's still odd. Lots of common things are odd. Lots of odd things are common. I mean, little anthropomorphic statues of freaky mice as salt and pepper shakers. Common as muck. Odd as fuck. So there.

Kate the Saint, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Bloody hippies... That's the way I like 'em.

Martin, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Haloween. Just get me the ususal, books, cd's, fine wine.

Billy Dods, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I prefer them toasted on a bonfire made of feckin' patchouli joss sticks.

chris, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

21st may. not celebrating christmas anymore either due to incompatibility of agnosticismness and christianity. plus inabilty to actually buy anyone presents. but mainly the first reason. therefore for christmas, i would like some willpower, and possibily overtime at work to keep my mind off the turkeys. may celebrate samhain, if i find out exactly what it entails. or make up a festival. like on seinfeld. birthdays are crap anyway.

alix, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

happy festivus one and all. As Nick predicted long ago I have come to love Seinfeld.

the question is though, when should festivus be? Can we have it in July so my birthday is ages away from it and I get a goodly amount of loot?

chris, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Made up festivals rock. On the basis that it only comes round every four years and is therefore much more special than any other day in the calendar, Katie and I and a few other ungodly souls decided to declare the 29th of February as a festival in 1996. I have only a fuzzy recollection of the resulting festivities, but I definitely remember it involving drinking lots of frosty gin, eating tasty food and taking photos of soft toys frolicking amongst foliage.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

12th of August. All I want next year is to have a good time, because this year I truly had the worst birthday ever. It wuz miserable.

Nicole, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

February 19th. Same as Carson McCullers, but not nearly as crazy. I love presents because I was deprived as a wean.

suzy, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

i married my wife on the 29th february 96 so that we'd only have anniversaries every four years.

alix, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

yes feb.29 is WAZZOCK DAY!! when's it next coming round?

katie, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Jan 14. We celebrate both Channukah and Christmas , then New Years , then My Birthday, i love January and November !

anthony, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

feb. 21st. and this year you can somehow extricate my birthday and valentines day from the same 7 day period. (aka THE SHITTIEST WEEK O' THE YEAR.)

jess, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

March 23rd. A grand time to have a birthday as it turns March from a drag of a month into a time of joy. For me at least, ha ha. My presents this year were all bloody ace and I had the best time I've had for several years. Next year I think I'd like some booXoR.

Tom, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Um, Feb 29th 2004, Katie?

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

March 2nd for me. Books, CDs, DVDs, I'm so obvious. Or gift certificates for same. Or just a nice birthday meal at a cool place. Or...

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I guess at this point I should note that it's never too late to buy me stuff. Halloween is right round the corner, feel free to buy me presents for that. I need to update my amazon wishlist, but you could always go there now and buy what's already on my list.

Nicole, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Maybe people should post links to their Amazon wishlists.

Tom, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

When it be: February 2nd. What I want: an honest-to-goodness PARTAY that doesn't involve any sort of psychodrama or hurt feelings or overwhelming waves of angst. As Maura would say - *sigh*. And do NOT take me to McDonald's - I went there for my 10th or 11th b-day party; there was a party game involving a paper cup and drinking straws. Terrible.

David Raposa, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

It's the 12th of this month y'all, and yes I will (almost certainly) be attending the NYC benefit night, so there's no escape!

DG, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

June 23, exactly, ahem, nine months after my father's birthday.

scott p., Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Kerry, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

November 17. I could use a black dinner jacket, I'm a 38 regular.

Sean, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Cabbage, Festivus is on the 23rd of December, at least that's when they had the meal.

My birthday is on the 29th of November.

I would like something better than last year's best present, which was a Pinefox t-shirt. I challenge you.

Ally C, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

What could be better than a Pinefox t-shirt?

Forget my amazon wishlist for a moment, I want a Pinefox t-shirt.

Or a Billy Bass that sings "Ashes to Ashes"...

Nicole, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

October 26th...19...and I want all my friends who've gone to university this year to remember that I still exist...

Bill, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

December 6th. 30. I want a recording studio. (I'll promise whoever gives this to me free studio time, of course.)

Brian MacDonald, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I want everything wrong with my car fixed or a new pair of brown boots, I threw last year's pair away, they were falling apart.
For Christmas I guess, my birthday was August 31st

Lesley Higgins, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Sept 25 (a week ago today). I recieved book tokens, 3 books dealing with political eccentrics, football + Hieronymous Bosch- and a politics video. All gratefully received.

stevo, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

This Christmas I want it to snow.

jel, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

January 18, at which point I turn 29. My wife is turning "25" on Sunday. Since I just got an interview, I won't be pathetic and sk for a job. Rather, I'd like a big bowl of hard candy and a bunch of video games.

Dan Perry, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

My birthday's on the second of April.

I think I'd quite like a pair of those trainers that aren't just trainers, oh no, they're much more than that; they're roller skates as well. I've wanted some for ages - ever since I saw them on Short Change but I've not actually wanted them so much that I'd actually want to buy some. Hopefully, by my birthday, they'll be dirt cheap as well.

Oh and a Year Long Tussards group pass. They're cool. £70 or something and you get unlimited access to Chessington, Madame Tussards, Alton Towers, Thorpe Park and whatever else they own. Neato.

jamesmichaelward, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

November 17. I could use a black dinner jacket, I'm a 38 regular.
A day after mine! I would like a puppy. Preferably a Husky.

bnw, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

March 25th. I want you to clean my car. The windscreens horrible, and theres bottles and cans (clap your hands) all over the seats and everywhere. its also covered in a thin film of dust and filled with miscellaneous misboxed cds. Get to work! And then you can start on my room.

Ronan, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

March 20. And I want money. Preferably American dollars, but British pounds, Irish punts, Canadian dollars, Dutch guilders, Belgian francs, and whatever the hell they call the dough in Australia and New Zealand will also do :-)

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Its my birthday on Saturday. In addition to some things I want but that have not been invented yet, I want a nice dinner with my friends and a sunny day, and dancing, there will be dancing.

The other holiday that I celebrate is Easter. I have a big brunch with my friends and we eat chocolate and coffee and hot cross buns.

rainy, Tuesday, 2 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Mitch Lastnamewithheld, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

I have decided that I would like a cattle prod (a Tazer would do at a push) and a sandwich toaster that doesn't cut diagonally across the bread so I can make the most fantastic fried egg sandwiches in the world.

that's on the 8th of January folks.

chris, Wednesday, 3 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

2nd April and as well as a joint party with jamesmichaelward, I would like a ticket to see Inter v. Atalanta on the 7th.

Do you think there's a chance that random admirers will start sending us these items à la the cam girls?

N., Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

No.

Tom, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Nick, you cheeky bugger, I recommended the shoe to you! it's rather good, if a little too referential for some tastes, but lots of people talking about music in it, and some funny bits too.

chris, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

Oops - sorry, Chris. If you recommended it in person I am sorry. I made a note of it ages and ages ago when someone mentioned it on Sinister and I was sufficiently convinced to think 'maybe I'll read that'. If it was you then I didn't know you at the time.

Tom, he who laughs last laughs longest (although everyone's usually left by that point, making it a somewhat Pyrrhic victory)

N., Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-two years ago) link

oop, I may have just jumped to a wrong conclusion, I thought it was recently, so I fear it may have been cookie, although I may well have mentioned it on Sinister too.

Anyways you can borrow my copy if you want, it's only thin so it doesn't take long to read.

Ms Misery, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 17:25 (sixteen years ago) link

two months pass...

Well, it was two days ago. Didn't really get anything - I have most material things - not even a baby (yet). :-) But what do I really want? Uh, TIGHT STOMACH again. Yep, I'm now thinking that this weight gain was not a great idea. Harumph. :-)

Other than that, or rather actually I don't care as much about the belly as I do about a safe speedy delivery (31st!) and a healthy baby and mommy (yes, I'm selfish). Also, I'd love for Ophelia to get rid of that nasty virus which she's had for WEEKS now.

stevienixed, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 00:49 (sixteen years ago) link

It's my birthday today. I won't be getting anything because we're a bit broke right now, but I would like an external flash for my camera and while I'm daydreaming, might as well ask for a second camera body.

Kate, non masonic, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 00:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Ah happy birthday!!!! :-) Sends you imaginary presents. :-)

stevienixed, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 01:00 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh! Happy birthday ladies! Kate you should get any kind of photography stuff your genius heart desires!

Beth Parker, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 01:40 (sixteen years ago) link

I need to learn to start saving money before that can happen I'm afraid :)

Kate, non masonic, Tuesday, 30 October 2007 02:05 (sixteen years ago) link

Oh, happy birthday! Saving money suxors; I agree.

Um, my birthday isn't until February. I think I'd like some good books and some time to read them. Also a nap!
