If you have a fucking allergy problem, don't live in a building with other people or fucking talk to people rather than fucking calling the cops on them all the fucking time because you're too chickenshit to confront someone about their problems.

And, as I said, I was not smoking weed.

Except that next doors lad has just got a new girlfriend but hasn't discovered curtains.

Massive dud.

You meant classic didn't you?

Oh come on, that's the type of situation that is SO EASY to turn into a classic! All you need is a strong light and a makeshift megaphone.

And cards with numbers on them, so you can hold up a score btwn 1 and 6 for performance!

Yeah yeah, the difference being that they know! blummin exhibitionists.

if you don't like cops knocking on doors, don't live in the same place as 3 drug dealers?

what a great sentence.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 13:14 (nineteen years ago) link

The sarcasm on this thread has reached such density that it may collapse in itself.

And what a fantastic moment THAT will be...

Oh do you really THINK SO?

Gareth, I hope these thoughtless fuckers who have house parties till 7am aren't your friends.

Actually, they're mine ;)

From the outside, it didn't look like there were any neighbours at all. But then they were very stupid indeed to leave all the windows wide fucking open.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 19:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Haha, in any case, I lived for a year with a brothel on one side and a mentally ill lady who screamed in the night on the other. We had some great parties.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 19:47 (nineteen years ago) link

waking me

I misread this as wanking. Immediate reaction: stop moaning, you bastardo, he's pleasuring you! ;-)

Nothing kills the mood like the neighbors working on their trucks while blasting Mexican dance hall music when you are trying to have early morning sex.
-- jocelyn (nalra...) (webmail), July 11th, 2005 11:49 AM. (Jocelyn) (later)

This is magic.

I lived above some depraved people in Paris once who woke my ex-wife and I one night by contriving somehow to shatter their toilet. Usually they awakened us by blasting Frank Zappa and attempting to argue violently over the music. During the day, I smoked hash with them. They were bordering on being completely socially retarded but they were quaint somehow.

Until recently, the neighbor in the building abutting (and a mirror image of ours) us would stay up all night (on speed, we suspected) chattering, crying, screaming or laughing while watching TV, sometimes all of the above. She moved before we had the temerity to call a swat team.

Our new downstairs neighbor, in our 4 person TIC (essentially a co-op) is a nice, warm seeming lady. After her first night, she called to apologize for her girlfriend's dog who had, supposedly barked in the middle of the night. After less than 4 days in the place she asked my gf to (a) walk more softly (we have over 75% of the floor covered in rugs) and (b) close the door more gently when she leaves at 6:40 am. What irked me was that our previous neighbor, with whom we had conversations about sound, never heard us, and our new neighbor, who moved from the burbs, didn't give herself any time to acclimatize herself to her new environment before bitching out.

Jon. jesus christ. at least half of these people couldn't sleep well right now even if they shot up with horse tranqulizers. have you been paying attention to anything?

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:15 (nineteen years ago) link

Jon lives in NOIZELAND where apparently no one has any sensitivity for world events or the goings on of "yoorpeens".

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:20 (nineteen years ago) link

Kim, that's an interesting line of "reasoning!"

Weren't some of the "Britishes" upthread justifying their rightous middle class agnst by complaining that they lived in the "suburbs"? If so I don't know why "terror anxiety" should be any more applicable to them.

And using "terror" as a justification for inane shit is fucked up to begin with.

no tech! (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:39 (nineteen years ago) link

Um Jon, people like Kate are extremely stressed because they're personal friends of Liz and are in a great deal of pain right now, and your lame "its just a bit pf PARTYING geez get a life" jibes are a bit rude in the circumstances dont you think?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:41 (nineteen years ago) link

Or did you actually have no idea what was going on?

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:42 (nineteen years ago) link

Jon, it isn't "terror anxiety". please do yourself a favour, go quietly and actually read the London threads, and then perhaps make some attempt to stop embarassing yourself.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:46 (nineteen years ago) link

i really don't see how any of what jon says has anything to do with the london threads.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:47 (nineteen years ago) link

He's having an unneccesary go at Kate, who has said under the circumstances she's so stressed out she needs sleep and cant get it, etc, and he's acting like she's whining over nothing!

That aside, I think saying "we have a RIGHT to be as noisy as we want on weekends, screw you guys" is kind of lameass.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:49 (nineteen years ago) link

it's as "lameass" as constantly complaining about noisy neighbors without actually doing anything about it.

Wait, wait, hold up, so how many times did Kate call the cops?

Mike Stuchbery (Mike Stuchbery), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 02:59 (nineteen years ago) link

Trayce, Kate has made it a point to be particularly nasty to me all the time on ILX. I was not aware of any relationship between her and Liz because I don't like her and thus do not keep up on her friendships.

Kate's response to my half-hearted teasing was a little bit... asking for it?

This past weekend was particularly bad - they were out until 2am on Saturday night, playing music in the garden really loud, bellowing along, shouting at one another at the tops of their voices.

Oh noes my weekend is ruined!

-- no tech! (hjink...) (webmail), July 11th, 2005 8:45 AM. (ex machina) (later) (link)

Jon - GO FUCK YOURSELF.

-- MIS Information (masonicboo...) (webmail), July 11th, 2005 8:47 AM. (kate) (later) (link)

And if SHE wants to be offended and explain the circumstances and demand an apology from me, SHE can do so.

That aside, I think saying "we have a RIGHT to be as noisy as we want on weekends, screw you guys" is kind of lameass.

That's kind of a strawman you got there. I think there needs to be consideration both ways! (Boring middle class fux vs. obnoxious drug addict party animals)

Kim, eat a dick. I don't even know who you are.

Seconded. Everyone has a right to have parties etc., but outward hostility toward your neighbours won't do you any favours.

A couple of years ago the people who used to live downstairs used to do this hollering screaming thing. It'd go on for hours. One night they came home at 3am and did it. As revenge I got up at 7am and JUMPED AND BANGED all through the flat for about two hours. Couple of weeks later they moved.

Jon, next time something serious happens to me I'll come to you for help, that okay?

Hotman Paris Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Jon, I work on call on weekends and at night. I'd probably complain to neighbours having a noisy 3am party too, and consider calling the cops. Some of us get really sick and messed up if we have our sleep fucked with.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Whatever you guys. It'd just be decent of you to give it a rest for a few days.

Kim (Kim), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:04 (nineteen years ago) link

Kim OTM. Or maybe next time one of Jons friends is in a car accident I'll just laugh at him for being upset enough to get easily stressed out at stuff.

WHERE IN THIS THREAD DID ANYONE MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THIS?

Well there's like "noise" and then "NOIZE". And what you should expect hast to kind of vary based on what the neighborhood is like...

no tech! (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:06 (nineteen years ago) link

Trayce, now you eat a dick. I didn't know that they were friends. And I don't think I should be forced to take someone's "fragile state of mind" into account when they act like a total asshole to me over a gentle jab.

no tech! (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:08 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah good one trayce. nice one.

shine headlights on me (electricsound), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:10 (nineteen years ago) link

I live in an inner urban street full of apartments! I expect my neighbours to still show some commonsense politeness tho! If I have a party, I tell my mates not to yell/talk loud too much out on the balcony after midnight cos I know the sound travels! I keep the stereo reasonably low if it is late. Even on weekends!

WHERE IN THIS THREAD DID ANYONE MAKE A STATEMENT LIKE THIS?

You. "Yes, but why should we have to change for you? I think it is a "community standard" that people should be given more leeway for noise on a weekend."

Dude I like you, dont get me wrong, this is just a bit over the top is all ;P

Maybe you should find out a bit more background before you have a "gentle jab".

MORE LEWAY != a RIGHT to be as noisy as we want on weekends

Maybe you should find out a bit more background before you have a "gentle jab".

ONCE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL I GOT HIT IN THE HEAD WITH SOMEONE'S GYM BAG AND THEY CALLED ME A "FAG". SO I BEAT THE SHIT OUT OF THEM. EVERYONE SAW WHAT HAPPENED BUT REFUSED TO TELL THE HEAD NUN SO I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO GOT DETENTION.

no tech! (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:12 (nineteen years ago) link

Why the fuck should I have to "find out a bit more background" on whomever I am being mean to? You guys clearly aren't

no tech! (ex machina), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 03:13 (nineteen years ago) link

OK ok, fair enough, I just think you should have a bit more understanding that some people really do find this kind of thing very stressful (I know I do). The car accident jab was a bit much, sorry, i was just trying to make a point.

(and on that note, Jim were you being sarky? I erm, hope so).

I don't think I should be forced to take someone's "fragile state of mind" into account when they act like a total asshole to me over a gentle jab.

You know what? You're absolutely right.

You shouldn't do it because you're forced into it, you should do it BECAUSE YOU'RE A FREAKING CONSIDERATE HUMAN BEING.
