i mean, stuff was always mentioned peripherally in classes...in my public middle school, i remember it being mentioned by name but not really talked about.

and this ain't bragging, it's more just my own life story, but i think that some of my shock comes from the fact that i was so immersed in this history from the time i was young, being a 12-year-old punk kid who was lucky enough to grow up being friends with people like the guyz from Limpwrist, as well as literary types who gave me Ginsberg and Frank O'Hara books and whatnot. i don't judge people who don't know about this history, but i definitely find it a little sad and weird that it isn't more well-known. that said, i'm sure that 'Milk' did raise the profile of the early gay-rights movement for a lot of people, for better or for worse. (i only add that caveat b/c that film is just eh, and b/c of other issues that surrounded my own viewing of it that i've talked about before).

Yes. Oh yes. It was the one thing I was depending on after college to pay rent and save a few $$$s up to move to another city (where I could transfer locations). It's difficult to explain how enormously this has fucked me over.

It was the dumbest thing, too; it basically amounted to me giving someone too much of a free sample (which we're allowed to/encouraged to do)

Oh I'm already working on my resume and hope to be sending it out to places by the end of the day. On the bright side I get to sort of relax a bit after graduation! So this is sort of somewhat nice on some level.

there's a dude in nyc who does that 'writes poems for money' thing, he sets up a table inside various subway stations and advertises as a "new york times published poet". he looks increasingly haggard every time i see him

hey all.

wild weekend, sort of. uh, been trying to hang with elmo, but have been too distracted or not into his planz? i am really bad at going to gay bars, at this point. maybe tonight? who knows. i sort of want to take him to Aunt Charlies tomorrow night, but i don't if he'll be up for it since he leaves the next day?

in other news, i believe i might have gotten a job. i try-out on thursday at this bourgeois coffee place in berkeley. kind of just excited about the prospects of having a job and some money in the pocket.

spent the weekend visiting my parents in ottawa, and awkwardly bumped into/hung out with half the guys from montreal i've ever been into and their new boyfriends (more or less). surprisingly enjoyable weekend anyhow.

LCD are playing tonight, so that should be good. otherwise life here is muggy and uneventful.

California sounds like a hell of a lot of fun.

California is too much fun. the key to surviving is naps.

i never go to gay bars now, but i have, like, no money and i have, like, no gay friends in town and going by myself isn't as fun

the really annoying thing is that every seemingly gay dude that i meet in the course of normal life that i am remotely attracted to turns out to be not a gay dude at all :(

aunt charlie's is not too far from my hotel, table, if that makes thing easier? we made dinner plans with a few friends on separate before realizing they all live in the castro --

gold coast is seedy, homey, way past its prime, hookers out back, aging showbiz / whoever crowd, no bros, no bois, not bear/leather either. cheap drinks, crappy music, pool and pool league. an old weho bastion with a history that hasn't turned into a "lounge" and doesn't really have a "thing" either. j4ke and n1ck run it and are nice guys. i think you'd like it dr m. oh yeah, tvs. though trunks down the street is sort of the same thing w/ a sports bar set up if you want to watch a game. xposts
