Let's just appreciate the strangeness of this, shall we? It's a message/ad/who knows what from the LCBO which is the gov't-run chain of Liquor stores in Ontario (you can't sell hard liquor in normal stores in Ontario) that recently started making the rounds (in I presume print ads or something?).

ah, marketed queerness

Hey donna I was gonna go to that thing, how was it?

And yeah, is Blackout the new thing, gay and straight alike? I feel like I've been invited to six different events there in the past few weeks.

i enjoyed it, nice mixture of gays and lesbians which i feel like i never see here (scales tipped increasingly toward the latter as the night went on). i'll be stopping by again today to see if anyone found my lol tote bag, not sure i'll stay for the pinups thing tho

I either go bagless or hold onto mine like a boytoy.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 19 June 2010 18:24 (fourteen years ago) link

I remove anything valuable or important from my bag before I go out and then don't worry much about it.

uppers epilepsy sh@kedown (The Reverend), Saturday, 19 June 2010 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

i refuse to believe that someone took it, seeing as these are gay librarians and there was a library book in my bag and we all of us know that incurring fines on lost books is way NAGL, but this also wouldn't be the first time this happened to me :(

a vaguely goofy lesbian (donna rouge), Saturday, 19 June 2010 19:24 (fourteen years ago) link

These things look like such a blast when you look at photos and then when you get there you realize everyone is already talking to somebody else. How do I shot gay bar?

cynthia batter blaster (Stevie D), Sunday, 20 June 2010 17:24 (fourteen years ago) link

h8 it when people steal your bag. it's happened to me a couple of times in pubs when i tipsily chuck it over with a pile of coats and bags, get drunk and mingle and move around and then suddenly realise it's not there. never anything properly valuable in it except fucking GLASSES, which are so damn expensive to replace, so the thieves wouldn't even benefit.

it's much worse for girls who all keep shit like purses, cash, keys, ipods in their bags by default tho.

Curses, summer wardrobe! You don't have enough pockets!

"summer wardrobe" "pockets" - must be euphemisms for something....

Took some friends to Ikea yesterday and it took us about an hour just to get out of Chicago with all the Puerto Rico Day madness. Also, I got sick of not having shorts and made some cutoffs!

Well, I spent 2 hrs at Folsom East. I had no idea the subs-on-a-leash had such sophisticated doggie masks now.

Wish I could've gone! Guys I'm getting more and more frustrated with "gay pride"/whatever the fuck gay is supposed to mean to heteros/etc. I think I'm going to join the Gay Shame movement.

I had tons of fun last year.

The Reverend, Monday, 21 June 2010 07:58 (fourteen years ago) link

And I never get to do anything gay anymore, cause no gay friends, etc. Friday, I went to a gay club for the second time in the almost a year I've been here.

Pretty much the only "anything gay" worth doing is sex.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 02:13 (fourteen years ago) link

I haven't done "gay" "sex" in over a year.

Goddamn, it's been since September that I got laid at all.

lol

i've never been to any pride. the london one clashes with the wimbledon women's final every year. i mean, getting excited about women's tennis is pretty gay already, so i like to think i'm still doing my bit.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:24 (fourteen years ago) link

Ha.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 08:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Having gay friends has been, in my experience, about a thousand times more rewarding in the long term than having gay sex.

rim this, fuck that (Eric H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 11:28 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm inclined to agree. Except, as of now, I have neither. I do generally value friends more than sex anyway.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 19:16 (fourteen years ago) link

:(

Are you going to bars looking for friends? Cause that might not work out quite so well.

rim this, fuck that (Eric H.), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 19:25 (fourteen years ago) link

I did mention, I think, that I've only been to gay bars twice since I've been in Portland, so that's a firm no. I'm just really not meeting any gay dudes over the course of my normal life. Every time I meet someone interesting who I think might be gay, we start hanging out and soon enough he mentions his girlfriend.

Anyway, for all my grousing, I have a date of sorts today with a guy from OKC. I'm not really sure how attracted to him I am, but as far as personality and interests, we are like sides of a coin, so I'm excited about this.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 21:09 (fourteen years ago) link

I actually have at least 2 good friends I met in bars (and I didn't sleep w/ either of them).

Here's something I don't understand: Rob Lowe.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 21:11 (fourteen years ago) link

I've spent probably 5-6 hours over the past two days chatting with this guy.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 22 June 2010 21:11 (fourteen years ago) link

I met my three best gay friends at work, online (he was my last boyfriend and we still occasionally finagle), and as rock critics, respectively. It's not easy, though. Crude remarks about Jake or the prep standing at the bar are tolerated but not reciprocated by my straight crew.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 22 June 2010 21:15 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm really not one to make crude remarks, at least not to people who aren't close friends. I'm generally pretty mild-mannered irl.
