The Gzeus was clearly affected by that one Brady Bunch episode...

Ned, they met in Florida as both were borrowing parent/sibling apartments near each other. He is from Detroit.

She's marrying Eminem? For fun!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:03 (seventeen years ago) link

Imagine being the wedding planner for that event...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 11 September 2006 16:14 (seventeen years ago) link

I think I'd just let him decide on the details. And make sure I wore a Kevlar... everything.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 11 September 2006 17:14 (seventeen years ago) link

My sister is not marrying Eminem - however, she could probably beat him up with one hand and a dirty look.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Actually, I saw a movie about the killer of Jesse James.
Sam Fuller film.
Good stuff.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Every time I see a reference to Jesse James being killed, I hope that it signals the cancellation of Monster Garage.

Oh I misread this badly.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan's mind: it's not that clean in there.

Jesse James just makes me think of that Cher song. Every freaking year, year after year. (...and now it's in my head again...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

... "Believe"?

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:24 (seventeen years ago) link

No, no, the one about Jesse James.

Much older. For the exact title I would have to go look at my tapes, but it's in there somewhere. I think I got that tape in 1988 or something...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:27 (seventeen years ago) link

"If I Could Turn Back Time"?

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:28 (seventeen years ago) link

"Just Like Jesse James." (tape is now in my hand!)

If you were here, I would sing it for you. I'm not sure I could keep a straight face, though.

"The Shoop Shoop Song"?

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 September 2006 18:54 (seventeen years ago) link

I see that the loop of that song is going to continue in my brain until I replace it with something ELSE.

(Bang Bang?)

THERE'S A LOT YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT CHER, DAN.

For example, she's from Laos. Fun fact!

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Monday, 11 September 2006 21:24 (seventeen years ago) link

Sorry, John, Shellshock wins, and even if it didn't.
I constructed "Shaa-Shaa [Chinese Water Torture Mix]" which is the sound of Shellshock looping in my brain ntil it hurts.
So... I end up with THAT version compounding the effect, then disintegrating, leaving me with a void I must fill with music.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 11 September 2006 23:31 (seventeen years ago) link

So John is now an expert on Cher? I have missed a few things in the past decade and a half or so...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 01:33 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, I'm now on my porch, with my mixer, a pencil pic w/windsceeen goosenecked at a Hummingbird Feeder, waiting for a bird.
I think I'm gonna hit record, take a bath and hope for the best while I'm in there.Alot of ambient noise.
Semi-distant radios, leaves, planes...

Ofuro or regular bath? Regular, I suppose.

(Ever since Japan, I dream of ofuro... if I ever build a house, I totally want one.)

On another topic, what are you all reading?

I just finished reading Heartburn by Nora Ephron (funny, and needed when one of your married couple friends separate).

I am just starting on re-reading Sula (Toni Morrison).

And I'm reading an anat. and phys. textbook and thinking that my brain cells have deteriorated mightily since college.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 20:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm reading game reviews and this thread.

I'd be reading subtitles, but I can't get tg4.tv to play properly. I WANT TO WATCH IRISH SOAPS! DUMB IDEA!!!

I'd read more, but going to a book store or talking to people that read lots of books is akin to going to Target to look for a CD, then asking recommendations from both the people at cheapo and the people at Guitar Center.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 12 September 2006 20:30 (seventeen years ago) link

No it's not.

Fluffy Bear is a man. Do not shoot him. (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 13:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Talking to people who read lots of books is the thing that keeps me from wanting to leave the planet. If there's an afterlife, I'm going to be hugely disappointed if there is no library filled with the books I haven't quite gotten to. (Actually, in "heaven," shouldn't every book you pick up be fucking fantastic?)

I think I have every book suggestion list I've ever scribbled down (or forced someone else to scribble) in my garage in a box. I might never get to them (and god knows there are probably spiders in there now... ugh), but I can't part with them.

FB is reading...???

Your Disgusting Head: The Darkest, Most Offensive and Moist Secrets of Your Ears, Mouth and Nose by Dr. and Mr. Doris Haggis-On-Whey.

I was reading Great Apes by Will Self, but I left that in dude's car and haven't managed to get it back.

FB, I want you to know that I actually went to Amazon.com to confirm that you were not, in fact, making that title up.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 14:39 (seventeen years ago) link

Dan, if we never left high school, my brain would be working better than it is. I used to think I could learn organic chemistry through osmosis. Now I'm staring at the definition of osmosis and thinking, "hmmm... can I remember this for more than 30 seconds?"

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 14:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm reading "The Know-it-all" by A.J. Jacobs (about his attempt to the entire Encyclopedia Brittanica), "Driving Mr. Albert" by Michael Paterniti (about driving cross-country w/Einsteins brain), and re-reading "Finley Wren" by Philip Wylie and "Infinite Jest".

Just finished "The Men Who Stare at Goats" by Jon? Ronson.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 13 September 2006 14:57 (seventeen years ago) link

I've been curious about Infinite Jest ever since it came out; I bought it for my friend Curt and he seemed to enjoy it. Was it the footnotes that he enjoyed so much? I can't remember. (Fiction plus footnotes! That might be even better than my undying adoration of parentheses.)
