Nick, that Peter Carey novel looks really good.

Yeah, I'm late, but I'd do it, too. I mean, I jump at opportunities like that.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Speaking on a panel would totally be a dream come true.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:43 (seventeen years ago) link

Any panel?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:45 (seventeen years ago) link

wood panel

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:46 (seventeen years ago) link

clapboard, if you will

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:46 (seventeen years ago) link

No, probably not, but being asked to participate on an appropriate panel where I could share my expertise and engage in a discussion with other folks would be tremendously satisfying. Beats the fuck out of being a desk-monkey.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

"Led Zeppelin, Automotive Maintenance, and Society"?

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:47 (seventeen years ago) link

I could handle the Society part of that.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:49 (seventeen years ago) link

you think so?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:50 (seventeen years ago) link

Now I'm trying to think of an appropriate panel to be part of. I don't think I have any expertise in anything that's worth sharing.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I'm not sure I do, either. Except for baby-name trends.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 18:58 (seventeen years ago) link

UH.

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:02 (seventeen years ago) link

WHAT ABOUT THE FILE

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:03 (seventeen years ago) link

We could turn Thirsty Thursdays into a panel discussion. It would be like a cross between our writing here and regular conversation. We would each have a microphone, a glass of water, and a nameplate. Libraries have this stuff, don't they?

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:05 (seventeen years ago) link

I would attend a panel on baby name trends in a heart beat, and I am not kidding. Especially if John were one of the speakers.

I don't know that I have the requisite expertise for a panel like this, btw. People just know that Workers Rights Is My Bag so I end up being a gap filler for stuff like this sometimes. I did a "Future of Collective Bargaining" talk at Northwestern (Northwestern? The one in Evanston) under the same "our first choice bailed help us" circumstances.

But I'm a substitute for another guy.
I look pretty tall but my heels are high..
The simple things you see are all complicated
I look pretty young, but I'm just back-dated...

xpost - I could probably get us a room at school...

Discussion question:

What the hell is wrong with Parker Posey?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:13 (seventeen years ago) link

Huh. She's not in Shortbus, is she? (That's the new John Cameron Mitchell film with REAL SEX.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:15 (seventeen years ago) link

I bet a friend of hers who is an up & coming designer made that. She felt obligated to wear it.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:31 (seventeen years ago) link

Is there something really wrong with her clothing that mine male eyes are just not seeing?

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:33 (seventeen years ago) link

She looks like a rooster.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

I don't have to make a real decision for a few months, but I'm not sure if I want to find an apartment by myself or move in with a couple of friends (dude from the band and his sister), who are thinking of renting a house.

On one hand I like living alone (I think?!), but on the other hand it would probably be a good idea to have people to hang with, make sure I don't live like a slob, get out of the house, etc.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:35 (seventeen years ago) link

She looks like she should be in a saloon.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:36 (seventeen years ago) link

she looks like bizarro sigourney weaver

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Yes. Yes she does.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:38 (seventeen years ago) link

Crossed with R0bin Russ0.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:40 (seventeen years ago) link

I was curious as to what I'd find at sarahandnick.com. I could have done better: http://www.sarahandnick.com/.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Man, she married into the Mephistopholes family, didn't she?

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:45 (seventeen years ago) link

If you guys had stayed on the straight and narrow, you'd look like...

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:51 (seventeen years ago) link

parker posey looks a lot better when she isn't aping my hair style.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:52 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to have TT somewhere, but I need to buy some waterproof boots tomorrow afternoon.

Aside: where can I get some waterproof boots in this town??? The ones at REI in the burbs last night were all ugly and/or expensive as fuck.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:53 (seventeen years ago) link

The Boss Bar at, like, Clark and Hubbard makes for a good post-work drinks spot.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:54 (seventeen years ago) link

(I'm in for TT this week.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:55 (seventeen years ago) link

Like boot boots? Would the Army/Navy store on Lincoln have them?

I have to review a show near Lincoln/Fullerton at 7:30 tomorrow but may be able to TT beforehand.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:55 (seventeen years ago) link

If I'm to be empaneled, I'm definitely a TT no show. If not, I will probably stop by. Boss Bar works for me.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Nick got his boots at DSW.

Queen Sarah Saturday (coco), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

Like boot boots?

Yep. Something that will keep my feets dry and be relatively comfy. I might check that surplus store... it'll be like a return to the days when I rocked the army jacket covered with punk patches.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:57 (seventeen years ago) link

eddie bauer?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 19:58 (seventeen years ago) link

The major fucking problem here is my feet are size 13 and there is very little to be had. I knew I should have ordered those N0rth F@ce ones from Zappos... shit!

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Boss Bar

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 20:00 (seventeen years ago) link

The North Face? Except they will be ten billion dollars and say "THE NORTH FACE" on them in giant, stupid letters.

xpost - a HA!

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

"The place is filled with negatives. Many of the bartenders are openly racist and rude to minority patrons (Im white). The regular bartenders tend to be stumbling drunk and obnoxious. The one high point was the bartender named Viola. A beautiful Polish girl who was as pleasant as she was gorgeous."

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 20:01 (seventeen years ago) link

a HA!

They were on sale! Under a hundred bucks!

"the real party is in the rear bar witch is located in the mens bathroom.try the foot long sausages."

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 20:03 (seventeen years ago) link

"Sweet. Complete dive. Stripper barmaids - not that that's a bad thing! Crappy interior, greasy food served. Combination of lowlifes, slumming suburbanies and city Chinaski types. In other words, a great bar, rub elbows with humanity here - or not, just hang with friends. Any bar that has a garage door that opens completely in the summer, and spews tables onto the sidewalk is a good thing in my book. A true original in a chain restaurant forest - it gets props for that alone. I only wish the drinks were correspondingly cheap, but it seems they are not - probably a nod to the downtown location."

i think i've been there. the garage door part brings it back.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 20:04 (seventeen years ago) link

The foot long sausages in the bathroom bring it back, admit it.

For some reason, I cannot type an apostrophe. It brings up the search field in Firefox...

And my arrow keys do not work...

WTF

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. I've only been there once, but it was like $6 for a pint of Stella or something ridic.
