Awesome Morbs!

get it gurl!

not doing anything particularly proud today (unless baking a cake for a friend's bday counts)

a vaguely goofy lesbian (donna rouge), Sunday, 27 June 2010 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

how did I get a semi-painful sunburn at the ballgame when our seats were in the shade? I was in the sun maybe 20 minutes. Damn Irish forebears.

Ugh, my skin's now fuchsia for real.

Haven't had a chance to hang out with this guy again :/

dr, baking a cake in this weather surely qualifies as some sort of pride-worthy masochism

lene lovage (elmo argonaut), Monday, 28 June 2010 13:18 (thirteen years ago) link

Does the left-right matrix still hold here? My vote: no.

the smaller of the two was definitely cuter in the face. fwiw i nearly ran to catch up with these two on the sidewalk in order to snap pics.

elmo have you seen this? trust me, it's worth the long load time...

Tony Ward was just about the only redeeming value of BUTT's awful "Straight Issue"

cynthia batter blaster (Stevie D), Monday, 28 June 2010 22:45 (thirteen years ago) link

Went to PrideFest yesterday (invited by a straight friend!) — It was fun but also slightly boring. I felt like there was a vibe of negativity in the air that would be difficult to articulate.

As for good news, I've gone on two dates with a cute boy and I think I really like him. :D

The Bitter Tears of Petula Clark (corey), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 01:27 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, the vibe of negativity at those parades definitely hangs in the air anytime a greased-up, pot-bellied bear wearing saggy whities dips it low to the pavement. Of course, in that case maybe some of them are thinking of the children.

rim this, fuck that (Eric H.), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 03:04 (thirteen years ago) link

So for the first time in my ENTIRE FUCKING LIFE I "hooked up" with a guy at a bar; it was my friend Tony's DJ night at this trendy spot in Philly. This dude gave me his number, and all my friends are giving me the advice of play it cool and don't text him all eager right this second but wait til tomorrow evening and be all "oh hey are you going to this Lighting Bolt show you said you might go to", etc, like all demure. He is unbelievably adorable; I don't want to blow this but I am already way overthinking it.

cynthia batter blaster (Stevie D), Tuesday, 29 June 2010 07:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Yes, it's best not to think! Play it cool.

I SAID, I didn't go this year!

hey eric, i was wondering how you are facebook friends w/ d4niel b4rnum-sw3tt? i have been chatting w/ him on tumblr (skeetshoot) and your face popped up when i located him on fb. do you know dude irl?

i saw two mormons the other day (always in pairs, those guys) in south wburg but neither one was esp cute :/

Guys, I'd like to discuss this review with you.

omg that sounds awesome.

I am an old guy, and I prefer the late 90s. (Matt P), Thursday, 1 July 2010 21:17 (thirteen years ago) link

think you're right about the first graf al -- dumb. p3rp3tu4 lol

the third one is, too! since when has "the self-destructive impulse to indulge in anonymous, sometimes Internet-facilitated sex" been "specific to modern gay life"?

querelle: the last fassbinder (donna rouge), Thursday, 1 July 2010 21:23 (thirteen years ago) link

well, I've only been a modern gay so I don't know who else has been indulging.

I was hoping you were posting Armond's praise for Grown Ups.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 1 July 2010 21:34 (thirteen years ago) link

long joke, but A+ punchline

The Reverend, Thursday, 1 July 2010 22:10 (thirteen years ago) link

Bits of that review are so awful it makes me wanna take off my shirt.

I want to thank my psychiatrist (billy), Thursday, 1 July 2010 23:19 (thirteen years ago) link

I suppose "gay discos" are more outrageous to a white straight man than Ghostface records.

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 1 July 2010 23:27 (thirteen years ago) link

what's outrageous to me is that ppl like the Scissor Sisters

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Friday, 2 July 2010 01:36 (thirteen years ago) link

Elmo, actually I don't know him very well at all. I think it goes back to Livejournal days, when we hung out in the same movie groups. I'm sure if I were the type to pare down FB friends, he'd probably be on the chopping block pretty early.

rim this, fuck that (Eric H.), Friday, 2 July 2010 04:59 (thirteen years ago) link

that scissor sisters review. what. how many ignorant clichés and assumptions about gay culture can you cram into one review.

i originally typed that and deleted it on the grounds of meanness lol

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 2 July 2010 08:32 (thirteen years ago) link

yes, i was just about to write - "not that there's anything wrong with that!"

jed_, Friday, 2 July 2010 08:34 (thirteen years ago) link

"Sex and Violence" explores the self-destructive impulse to indulge in anonymous, sometimes Internet-facilitated sex.

what exactly is "self-destructive" about this?

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 July 2010 08:43 (thirteen years ago) link

could easily substitute "self awakening" or or anything in between.

jed_, Friday, 2 July 2010 08:47 (thirteen years ago) link

i guess this wasn't intentional, but the framing of that sentence in a paragraph about how scissor sisters are becoming more gay makes it seem as if anonymous, sometimes internet-facilitated sex is somehow taboo in the gay community, or MORE taboo than it is in the straight community, or that it's a "problem" that doesn't exist in the straight community at all

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 July 2010 08:49 (thirteen years ago) link

i haven't listened to the song and i assume that matthew is just relaying the feelings of jake shears, but the framing and solemn tone of that sentence remind me exactly of how straight people view and understand internet-facilitated sex ime

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 July 2010 08:52 (thirteen years ago) link

how straight people view and understand internet-facilitated sex

barely-concealed jealousy ime

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Friday, 2 July 2010 08:54 (thirteen years ago) link

for me it's a mix of ignorance and "oh my god, be careful" in a really overly serious tone -- not that that's not an important sentiment but straight people always seem to treat that kind of sex/human interaction as some grave act, as opposed to the more flippant action that it usually is

hell hath no furry (J0rdan S.), Friday, 2 July 2010 08:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Guys, I actually don't have any problem with this review.

rim this, fuck that (Eric H.), Friday, 2 July 2010 13:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Just sayin', anonymous Internet sex can be sketchy.

rim this, fuck that (Eric H.), Friday, 2 July 2010 13:18 (thirteen years ago) link

you're gay, Eric?

Filmmaker, Author, Radio Host Stephen Baldwin (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 2 July 2010 13:31 (thirteen years ago) link

sure it can be sketchy, but that review makes it out to be Cruising-levels of ominous

"Does anybody know right now exactly where you are?"-- a reference to the commonly advocated practice of letting someone know the address of your hook-up in case you never turn up alive again.

is this really a thing?

lene lovage (elmo argonaut), Friday, 2 July 2010 13:58 (thirteen years ago) link

Actually I remember seeing ads/signs to such effect in gay papers and locales back in the '80s & 90s, usu after someone in Greater NY was dismembered by a pickup.

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Friday, 2 July 2010 14:21 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i've read things advocating that exact thing (in dan savage columns i think) but i've never done it myself
