I'd like to go to the Pond. Never been there before though. It has a soft rock night I believe...

KeefW (kmw), Monday, 21 November 2005 21:23 (eighteen years ago) link

You missing here already, Neil?

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 08:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I'll come, doesn't seem right that my only FAPs have been in London. Where's the Pond?

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 09:33 (eighteen years ago) link

I may be available for an Edinburgh FAP just after the Glasgow Christmas FAP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 10:57 (eighteen years ago) link

The Pond's in Leith... Salamander Street, I think.

What date are we going to do this, then? Any suggestions?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 08:26 (eighteen years ago) link

Erm. Thursday 8th December?

alext (alext), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 09:19 (eighteen years ago) link

That's my brother's birthday (not that i think he expects me to spend it with him).

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 09:25 (eighteen years ago) link

How about Sat 10th December then?

Thursday's fine by me right enough; think I've a Christmas do on Friday, though.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:06 (eighteen years ago) link

i'm ok with either date.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:24 (eighteen years ago) link

I think I might have something on the Sat. but since we're likely to be the only three people there, Thurs only poss. if Leigh is not with her bro. My brother's birthday is the Tuesday, funnily enough.

alext (alext), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 12:57 (eighteen years ago) link

If i was going to my brother's it would only be to see his dog, the little shite didn't get me a birthday present.

Do any buses pass by the pond? i'm not familiar with that part of leith in spite of living quite close by.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 13:40 (eighteen years ago) link

It's a couple of minutes walk from the junction of constitution st and commercial street. 12 goes along Salamander St; 16 and 35 go down constitution st. and turn down commercial st. I'll be walking across the park from the bottom of easter road since I'm not afraid of the dark (side of leafy Leith Links).

alext (alext), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 15:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Thursday's fine, if it's cool with the Glasgow people upthread. I will walk down Leith walk. My brother's birthday is the 9th May, which doesn't pose any problems.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 18:49 (eighteen years ago) link

the 8th would be good because of this ... is anyone else up for it? obviously it would mean meeting somewhere other than leith ...

failing that, i can do the 10th. so much for my hectic social calendar. bah.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 18:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Jesus, we don't have to watch a band do we?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 18:54 (eighteen years ago) link

that'll be the 10th, then ;)

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:02 (eighteen years ago) link

Well I don't mind if others are up for it... I don't think Alex can make Saturday.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:06 (eighteen years ago) link

plums.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:08 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, maybe he can. I didn't fully understand his comment.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:10 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't think i've ever fully understood anything alex has said :)

nb: this is a joke.

well, apart from that time i rang him in a panic, while revising for my finals, and asked him to explain poststructuralism. over pints in the earl of marchmont.

the only bit i fully remember was: "haven't you two sorry fuckers got hovels to go back to?"

enough, i'm off to the GYM.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:13 (eighteen years ago) link

I could possibly do the 8th. Not the 10th though, I'm afraid. Gig of the year in Glasgow, which I can't miss.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:25 (eighteen years ago) link

enough, i'm off to the GYM.

I hope that's a joke.

Ally: Chas & Dave?

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:27 (eighteen years ago) link

Sorry... Chas 'n' Dave.

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 23 November 2005 19:29 (eighteen years ago) link

You missing here already, Neil?

I'm spending, on average, one weekend out of every 2 in edinburgh at the moment. I miss some of the people there but I don't miss the place.

I'm totally flexible with regards to dates & times & locations. I realise the pond is totally inconvenient for anyone (myself included) whodoes not stay in leith.

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 24 November 2005 13:18 (eighteen years ago) link

is that your real e-mail address neil?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 24 November 2005 13:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Leith's a bit awkward for me as I commute in from Fife.

Greig (treefell), Thursday, 24 November 2005 13:49 (eighteen years ago) link

is that your real e-mail address neil?

I'll send you my real email address...

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 24 November 2005 14:18 (eighteen years ago) link

I could probably make the Saturday if that's easier for people. Or we afternoon FAP if it's the w/end. I thought this was a local FAP for local people, mind :-)

alext (alext), Thursday, 24 November 2005 14:35 (eighteen years ago) link

Edinburgh and Glasgow are local.

hmmm (hmmm), Thursday, 24 November 2005 14:36 (eighteen years ago) link

Is Salamander St the street that runs through the links to the foot of Restalrig Road? Depending on what time the FAP is, i'll be getting the 25, 32 or 49 to Duke street and walking down Constitution street.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 24 November 2005 16:24 (eighteen years ago) link

Just been looking at the map, from what i can gather salamander street is a continuation of seafield road, am i right?

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 24 November 2005 16:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Yup. Joins Seafield road to Commercial St. It's a bit of a waste land down there.

alext (alext), Thursday, 24 November 2005 16:33 (eighteen years ago) link

saturday evening would be good for me. if i'm coming to edinburgh on the thursday, i will be duty-bound to go to the swimmer one thing - and feel obliged to force everyone to accompany me.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 24 November 2005 16:40 (eighteen years ago) link

saturday afternoon is do-able, though.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 24 November 2005 16:40 (eighteen years ago) link

Saturday afternoon sounds like a plan. What about the Cameo, it's nice there and probably easier to get to?

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 24 November 2005 16:44 (eighteen years ago) link

Are we going with Sat p.m. then? Original discussion with Keith involved the Filmhouse, in honour of our many-years-ago theory. Will there be a contingent from the weej going to this Swimmer One thing anyway?

alext (alext), Thursday, 24 November 2005 17:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Saturday afernoon is fine by me... Leigh, when you say the Cameo, I assume you mean the Cameo down in Leith (is it on Commercial Street?) or do you mean the Cameo Cinema bar at Tollcross?

It doesn't matter to me; I'm happy with all the plans.

Happy to come along to the Swimmer One thing to see you Simon; just can't be arsed trying to talk to people over a load of noise from pish bands. Swimmer One is a Wire b-side isn't it? How obscure. If I ran a night, I'd call it "rabbit".

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:23 (eighteen years ago) link

...Actually, when we did do a night a few years ago, Dave wanted to call it "The Soft Machine", so I went ahead and made a bunch of nice colour posters to hang up about the place on the night. He did burst out laughing when he saw them, as I'd written "The Soft Parade" all over them. D'oh!

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:25 (eighteen years ago) link

I guessed she meant the cinema / superpub (ok not anymore, but it still smells of wee) given the 'easier to get to' bit ;-).

alext (alext), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:43 (eighteen years ago) link

Grimly, it's Jacki3's leaving shinnndig of drunken bammery on the 10th.

stet (stet), Thursday, 24 November 2005 18:49 (eighteen years ago) link

I actually meant the Cameo pub in Leith.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 24 November 2005 19:28 (eighteen years ago) link

Yes, see 'easy to get to' is relative to where you are... So the Cameo in Leith is easy to get to for say, sailors.

The one time I've been in there I liked it, quite happy, but if others want further up town so they can get there more easily then that's fine too.

Let's make a decision tomorrow!

KeefW (kmw), Thursday, 24 November 2005 19:32 (eighteen years ago) link

I like the Leith cameo -- it doesn't smell of wee, and I shall stop trying to second-guess Leigh!

alext (alext), Thursday, 24 November 2005 19:57 (eighteen years ago) link

I've not been to the Cameo cinema bar in years, from what i can remember it's pretty tiny.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 25 November 2005 10:02 (eighteen years ago) link

They expanded through the wall into the shop next door, so it's a lot bigger and now a trendy place for Edinburgh's middle aged cinema goers to drink. It is usually very smokey though.

alext (alext), Friday, 25 November 2005 11:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Aren't they talking about ripping up the seats in the main screen and converting it to a bar?
I read something about there being a campaign to save it.

Greig (treefell), Friday, 25 November 2005 11:39 (eighteen years ago) link

It would be a shame if they turned the Cameo into a superpub, i always liked it but tend to go to Filmhouse for arthousey flicks.

leigh (leigh), Friday, 25 November 2005 11:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Swimmer One is a Wire b-side isn't it

no. that's "our swimmer".

alex: if there's no thursday-night fappery, i won't bother coming through for the gig (sorry, swimmer one) ... saturday afternoon is cool, though. hurrah. wherever we may end up.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 25 November 2005 13:42 (eighteen years ago) link

Ah, right you are. I'm actually semi-glad I got it wrong, unless getting it wrong is cool in ILX land, in which case I would have liked to have got it right. Or vice versa.

I can't see the hordes that will attend this fitting into the Cameo cinema bar, but then I also sympathise with those who don't live in Edinburgh and don't want to go looking for the Cameo bar.

Here's a suggestion - how's about the (Car) Wash on the mound? It's easy to get to for travellers.

KeefW (kmw), Friday, 25 November 2005 18:27 (eighteen years ago) link

NO NOT THE CAR WASH IT SUCKS COCKS IN HELL.

i'd be well up for the cameo bar. it'd be like a homecoming. of sorts.
