paris has been immensely more BORING since she came out of jail more like :(
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:14 (fifteen years ago)
More tolerable maybe, but mainly because the media/press ignored her and even mocked her. And like Lex said, she's fucking boring now.
Of course I do jest when I say I feel sorry for her. But then she is/was so young. Who wouldn't be lured by drugs, drinking, fastliving and whatnot? (Probably me, but then I am way too boring.) Thing is, she'll never get back on top. Who did it before her? Drew Barrymore, yes, but most don't recover from this.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)
oh yes that famous lohan intelligence
― Davey Mo Coulier (some dude), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:16 (fifteen years ago)
um I wanted someone to burn Paris Hilton at the stake for years for being an empty-headed racist bitch, so that comment was not meant to imply that Paris is somehow more appealing than Lindsay
something that is undeniable is that Paris currently has her shit together and Lindsay does not and my point can be boiled down as follows: if a loathesome hosebeast like Paris Hilton can be rehabilitated into acting like an actual human being, Lindsay Lohan certainly can
― emo WINNER! (HI DERE), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:17 (fifteen years ago)
But then she is/was so young. Who wouldn't be lured by drugs, drinking, fastliving and whatnot?
all things within excess imo, most young people do this anyway?
― ,,,,,,eeeeleon (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:17 (fifteen years ago)
& xp to dan, i suppose
relative to hilton, yeah sure, why not?
― ,,,,,,eeeeleon (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:18 (fifteen years ago)
Thing is, she'll never get back on top
you think so? every time i see a story like this i think about putting money on lohan winning an oscar within 10 years. even now i sense a residual sympathy for her, people really wanting her to get her shit together. the narrative is more "she's squandering her talent" than "she never had any talent".
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
I feel sorry for LL to the extent that I feel sorry for anyone who wasn't raised very well and then runs face-first into laws and societal mores in young adulthood. Some people learn from it, some don't, none of them should get free passes or "oh that Lindsey, she's really keepin' it real," but the parent(s) deserve their own special punch in the face as much as the kids.
lol at the idea of LL having displayed any intelligence. When did this happen?
― Grisly Addams (WmC), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
afaict she's picked exactly one good script her whole career and has never made a wise life choice with anything more significant than a lunch order, and appears to be barely literate whenever posting anything on the internet. Paris is still impenetrable enough as a public figure that there's at least a shadow of a doubt that she might be kind of smart.
― Davey Mo Coulier (some dude), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
i still wonder what lindsay thinks the word "adequate" actually means
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:22 (fifteen years ago)
afaict she's picked exactly one good script her whole career
this is true, but the "she used to be a super-promising talent" is pretty ingrained into the media narrative at this point
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:23 (fifteen years ago)
death by fire to media narratives
― Grisly Addams (WmC), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)
don't really care if she's 'intelligent' tbh. 'intelligent' actors tend to be gd idiots imo. sean penn, john cusack, these are the kinds of actor that get called intelligent.
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)
i really feel pity for her. but then fuck it, she had the golden ticket and rolled it up smoking weed with it. it's gone now.
All she has to do is sober up for a few weeks & get someone to cast her in some awards-bait indie flick & the world will welcome her back with open arms. She's all of 24 - her career is far from over.
― death kebab of DEATH (Pillbox), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:25 (fifteen years ago)
lol no one thinks Sean Penn is intelligent, including Sean Penn
― emo WINNER! (HI DERE), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:27 (fifteen years ago)
ppl publish long articles by the guy about chavez and whatnot... i dunno, that suggests to me someone thinks he has something worth saying to say
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:28 (fifteen years ago)
It suggests to me that the editor thinks there will be page hits and/or newsstand sales, and nothing more.
― THIS BOOK EQUAL CONJOB (suzy), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:32 (fifteen years ago)
guys let's not nitpick -- point is Sean Penn is a good example of a 'serious' actor who wins awards, gets to direct, and is allowed to speak out on behalf of 'issues,' no matter how dense he comes off to any reasonable person
― Davey Mo Coulier (some dude), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:38 (fifteen years ago)

For Hollywood I doubt this is the case. She's tainted far too much. Honestly, I think it is over for her. And let's not forget her kookoo family that follows her everywhere. Good lord.
But I hope (for her) I am wrong.
― Nathalie (stevienixed), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:42 (fifteen years ago)
hollywood is pretty sexist, but loads of fuck-ups have come back
robert downey jr is one of the biggest stars around right now
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 14:55 (fifteen years ago)
I fear Nathalie may be right.

Someone who cleans up, yes. Someone who cleans up, but still has their horrible sponging family and friends hanging around, no.
― ninjas and lasers and gold and (snoball), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:07 (fifteen years ago)
I don't see her cleaning up all that fast, either; she's spoiled, self-entitled and will probably become bitter and increasingly so, long before she cleans up.
― Grand amiral de la marine des licornes (Michael White), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:11 (fifteen years ago)
i don't know her that well. but i would imagine that one or two spoiled and self-entitled people have gone far in hollywood.
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:11 (fifteen years ago)
she didn't exactly have Downey's career before
― Davey Mo Coulier (some dude), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:14 (fifteen years ago)
like she could definitely have a rebound eventually but realistically it'll be as like 3rd billed on a TV series that wins a few Emmys
― Davey Mo Coulier (some dude), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:15 (fifteen years ago)
..and Downey seems like more of a charming drunk/rapscallion than, say, lohan who seems self-entitled, etc.
― Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:18 (fifteen years ago)
LL has certainly picked more than 1 good script, depending on your definition of "good." I have thoroughly enjoyed at least 3 of her movies, and I am dead-set on Inferno being a stone-cold classic. I think it's very early to posit that her career is over. It all depends on whether or not she can act like a person with brains, and on whether or not she can pick good roles. If she isn't a total fuck-up, she'll make the most out of Linda Lovelace and give everyone the fuck-you/fuck-me performance of her life.
― janice (surm), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:19 (fifteen years ago)
Also, all of the LL press of the last number of years, including this jail sentence, may be detrimental to her career at this time, but it is the stuff of legends that might actually prove beneficial to her BO bankability at some point in the future. I think she is sort of capitalizing on it with the decision to make a movie about an infamous porn star of completely demented proportions. I mean, fuck, I'll buy the ticket, and I know plenty of people who will as well.
― janice (surm), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:23 (fifteen years ago)
i would imagine that one or two spoiled and self-entitled people have gone far in hollywood.
Can you imagine the insurance on her movies?
I worked on a TV show with several insane substance-abusers-to-the-point-of-often-not-being-able-to-do-their-jobs actors and all I can say is that it made the crew really, really bitter.
― Grand amiral de la marine des licornes (Michael White), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:25 (fifteen years ago)
yea that is her main obstacle right now imo: undependability
― janice (surm), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:27 (fifteen years ago)
get someone to cast her in some awards-bait indie flick & the world will welcome her back with open arms.
she was in an altman movie and this didn't exactly happen
― goole, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)
that was before she became super-fucked-up tho iirc
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:28 (fifteen years ago)
people are never going to like her again because shes not that good or charismatic an actress. what rdj has going for him isnt the fucked up backstory, its that hes a likable, talented actor
lindsay was pretty cute, but shes turned in basically one engaging performance, on the back of a pretty good script with a great supporting cast.
― max, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:29 (fifteen years ago)
i thought that was right in the middle of being fucked up but i'm not up on all the twists and turns here
― goole, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:30 (fifteen years ago)
people are never going to like her again because shes not that good or charismatic an actress.
don't think there's enough evidence either way here. she isn't the best thing in 'mean girls' (i.e. rachel mcadams) but is still very good. n e ways, i don't think you can predict. i've never liked drew barrymore in anything but she pulled it off.
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:32 (fifteen years ago)
Are you talking about Mean Girls, Max? Cuz she also turned on the same sort of charm in Freaky Friday and Just My Luck. And in the Altman, I thought she was pretty great at playing a confused, bitchy teenager (or, herself).
― janice (surm), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:35 (fifteen years ago)
Drew Barrymore comes across as nice, though.
x-post
― Grand amiral de la marine des licornes (Michael White), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)
i think ppl gave her shit for maybe being a bit late on the altman film?
which i think kind of says it all -- if you can't show up blitzed on an altman set, is it even worth signing on? [via misplaced nostalgia for the 70s]
but she wasn't total tmz-bait trainwreck level at that point. she was that girl who had followed up 'mean girls' with 'herbie'.
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:36 (fifteen years ago)

YOU'RE not that good or charismatic an actress
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:37 (fifteen years ago)
shes been in like a dozen movies, and has only been good/interesting/likable in one two (ill give you freaky friday) of them... dunno how much more evidence we need
― max, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:38 (fifteen years ago)
jeez as if being a good or charismatic an actress/actor is some kind of pre-requisite here, rly
― ,,,,,,eeeeleon (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:39 (fifteen years ago)
well it is! i mean again the guy we keep holding up as a model for "successfully recovered trainwreck" is robert downey jr.
― max, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:40 (fifteen years ago)
"good" is all whatever, i dont even care if shes a "good" actress, i just mean that i dont think shes really a star actress--its just that her descent into trainwreck-ness and the realization that she isnt very engaging happened at the same time, so people conflate the two

and the (imo) awful drew barrymore
just shootin the shit here but im not convinced she's fucked for life. think she's more talented and likeable than, say, kate hudson, who still gets to topline movies, and everyone likes a comeback.
― frap your hands say yeah yeah yeah (history mayne), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:42 (fifteen years ago)
^
also much hotter than hudson et al
― ,,,,,,eeeeleon (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:43 (fifteen years ago)
yeah, great point. max, i totally see what you're saying in that her light-up-a-screen charm so ingrained in movies like mean girls and FF was definitely diffused elsewhere in her career, but i still think she can turn it on.
― janice (surm), Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:44 (fifteen years ago)
i assume max hasn't seen the altman movie, i thought she was pretty good there
― groovemaaan, Wednesday, 7 July 2010 15:44 (fifteen years ago)
oh i dont think shes fucked for life, i just dont see her winning an oscar or really ever being a bankable star.
shes not hotter than hudson anymore, sadly
