the same theatre is also having both a Kurosawa and a Claire Denis retrospective, and I would feel far too guilty about spending money on The Room while neglecting Rashamon or Beau Travail

i can't advise you to neglect Rashamon or whatever in favor of The Room, but, The Room is pretty amazing and worth seeing and transcends mere "so bad, it's good" status. it's weirdly compelling in a way that inspires multiple viewings. everything about it, without exception is seriously bizarre...its attempts to portray conventional human behavior are consistently, hilariously "off"

so i downloaded & watched this recently. The scene at the beginning with Denny in the bedroom made me think the movie would have some interesting ideas -- johnny plays it cool with him being there; perhaps it's a social circle where nothing is private -- but no, the movie is just stupid.

Yr doin' it wrong. Watching it alone on a computer/TV at home looking for a watchable film is so utterly not the point of this movie.

Also, omg @ Room Sims, Mandee! You rule for that.

Game was great. Not as great as the perfect film, of course, but a great homage.

My co-worker spoke to Tommy Wiseau on the phone yesterday! I had no idea but apparently he distributes the DVD himself. So if a store wants to sell it, or rent it, they buy it from his production company (which I presume is him and dvd burner). Fascinating.

My feeling is that if you don't like the first half you won't like the second half either. It isn't for everybody.

But it is crucial that you watch it with other people, and go in expecting something terrible but sublime.

or you could watch it with the Rifftrax. it's like a little set of training wheels for those who can't stomach the full-on Room experience.

I've watched all the famous clips of course so feel I have built up a bit of a tolerance.
