Modern Bionic Woman, Retrograde Feminism

So let's assess our new-school bionic babe, keeping in mind Eick's comment that this show is about how "we" feel now that we know women can do anything men can. Apparently "we" feel that women only become powerful through their sexual relationships with men. "We" also feel that even when women are powerful, it's probably because men implanted something inside them that the men continue to own and control.

Wow. I had verbal diarrhea last night. Sorry about that. The Sonata kicked in and I just ignored it, so I was posting in my sleep, in a sense.

Jesse, Sunday, 7 October 2007 14:42 (sixteen years ago) link

I stood at Broadway & Barry this morning and watched all those runners go by.

Eazy, Sunday, 7 October 2007 17:33 (sixteen years ago) link

chilx girlz--both elevators in my building are broken, so i think i'm going to have to cancel tonight. check the email for details, and spread the word to ppl who might not check their email regularly...

We're going board game shopping.

Jeff, Sunday, 7 October 2007 18:28 (sixteen years ago) link

Congratulations Jenny

Condolences Jeff and people who like the Cubs

I drove back from Michigan today after a weekend wedding tour/reminder of why I don't like the central Lower Peninsula.

dan m, Sunday, 7 October 2007 19:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Oof, over 250 hospitalized from the marathon because of the heat.

Eazy, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:10 (sixteen years ago) link

:(

horseshoe, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:22 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm optimistic for next year. Not many people, myself included, expected them to do anywhere near as well as they did this year. I like the young guys on this team and I think next year will be fun.

Jeff, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:22 (sixteen years ago) link

We bought Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne.

Jeff, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:24 (sixteen years ago) link

someone stop the weather

river wolf, Sunday, 7 October 2007 20:29 (sixteen years ago) link

You guys Carcassonne is so fun. Get the many expansions once you get sick of the regular rules! They add a lot of complexity, but it also sometimes makes things so complicated that I don't even want to get started playing because it makes my brain hurt. We also have the Carcassonne Castle, Hunters and Gatherers (my fave) and City games.

I've heard of Ticket to Ride but have never played it.

La Lechera, Sunday, 7 October 2007 22:12 (sixteen years ago) link

Speaking of transportation-themed board games, we have Metro, which is pretty fun but not as fun as a 2-player game as it is with more people. Unfortunately, there are rarely more people anywhere nearby so it doesn't get played much.

La Lechera, Sunday, 7 October 2007 22:15 (sixteen years ago) link

i rode my bike to the mca today. beautiful art lovin' ladies everywhere. i fell deeply and truly in love at least 25 times. when i pedaling down chicago i was cursing the heat but when i saw all those girls in their summer finest all that hatred for the heat melted away like the sweat running down my forehead.

football on tv, paul revere & the raiders on the turntable, and the a grilled cheese sandwich in my belly, perfect. no, if i had two ice cold cans of beer then it would be perfect. but this is good enough.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 7 October 2007 22:18 (sixteen years ago) link

speaking of board games, if anyone ever sees a copy of stop thief for sale, please alert me to it.

chicago kevin, Sunday, 7 October 2007 22:20 (sixteen years ago) link

Ticket to Ride was pretty awesome. We played two games, splitting them. It's good with two people but would be really awesome with more.

We'll try Carcassonne after dinner.

I really want to play Euphrat & Tigris, but that requires three people. I don't think one of the cats is up for it.

Jeff, Sunday, 7 October 2007 23:31 (sixteen years ago) link

maybe the other one is

river wolf, Sunday, 7 October 2007 23:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Okay, we split two games of Carcassonne too. I think we're going for a tie breaker.

Jeff, Monday, 8 October 2007 02:23 (sixteen years ago) link

I won. I scored lots of farm points.

Jeff, Monday, 8 October 2007 03:09 (sixteen years ago) link

killer marathon, eh?

chicago kevin, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:03 (sixteen years ago) link

that shouldn't be as funny as I find it.

kenan, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:31 (sixteen years ago) link

wait did people die?

river wolf, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:32 (sixteen years ago) link

one did, three still in critical condition at northwestern, 300 got medical treatment before the race was cancelled.

chicago kevin, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:35 (sixteen years ago) link

nw doc said one person was brought in with an internal temp of 107 which means brain was literally cooking inside the guy's skull.

prob not good for liver or kidneys i'd wager.

chicago kevin, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:36 (sixteen years ago) link

oh jesus. those poor people.

horseshoe, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:39 (sixteen years ago) link

apparently the water stations were not prepared to handle the increased demand due to the weahter. i biked from the western and division to the hancock at noon and thought i was going to pass out by the time i jumped off the bike. i can't imagine trying to run in the heat.

I'm waiting to hear from my friend Sarah G., whom I went out to see at 9 this morning at Barry/Broadway. It was pretty amazing seeing the range of people running.

Eazy, Monday, 8 October 2007 04:53 (sixteen years ago) link

I hope she's okay, Eric!

I assume she is, but I hope so too. I can understand why people who have spent the year training almost daily for this would overexert themselves and keep going, as well as those runners who would need to finish this one to qualify for Boston.

Eazy, Monday, 8 October 2007 05:00 (sixteen years ago) link

A zillion runners comment here.

Eazy, Monday, 8 October 2007 05:47 (sixteen years ago) link

Best comment? This is EXACTLY why you should never run unless something bad is chasing you!

Eazy, Monday, 8 October 2007 05:55 (sixteen years ago) link

They should hold this in february. No chance of heat stroke.

kenan, Monday, 8 October 2007 06:38 (sixteen years ago) link

i can't sleep. i am literally just lying in bed, sweating and feeling terrible. i had sort of forgotten how badly the heat fucks with my ability to basically anything.

according to the little thermomer deal on my clock, it is 88 degrees in my room right now.

FUCK YOU

river wolf, Monday, 8 October 2007 06:59 (sixteen years ago) link

that ain't right, it's only 74 outside. Open a window!

kenan, Monday, 8 October 2007 07:18 (sixteen years ago) link

i'm gonna go step in front of a bus

river wolf, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Chicago marathon next year. Me running it. Maybe?

Jeff, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:40 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm sure I would destroy some part of my body.

Jeff, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:42 (sixteen years ago) link

Why the hell don't my shoestrings ever come out even?

Jeff, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:51 (sixteen years ago) link

this house is the most poorly insulated piece of shit ever

fully 15 degrees warmer in my room than outside. i think i slept like four hours.

whatever. at least i'm awake early. get 'er done!

river wolf, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:56 (sixteen years ago) link

I'm supposed to be the only person on here this early.

n/a, Monday, 8 October 2007 11:58 (sixteen years ago) link

Those games are fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun. Carcassonne is one of those games that looks really simply but has a lot of depth. Ticket to Ride is super fun because it is about TRAINS and MAPS.

Jenny, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:22 (sixteen years ago) link

Up way, way too early this morning. Its gonna be a long day.

jon /via/ chi 2.0, Monday, 8 October 2007 12:32 (sixteen years ago) link

I biked around a lake yesterday! It was fun!

Jordan, Monday, 8 October 2007 13:57 (sixteen years ago) link

Ohhh rw I feel your pain. The summer I was unemployed was the last summer I didn't have an air conditioner, and I don't think I slept more than 4 hours at a time. I spent my days in a coffee shop or the library just to not die.

Laurel, Monday, 8 October 2007 14:05 (sixteen years ago) link

The A/C at my office is not coming on. At all. The thermometer on the thermostat is at 82. SO FUCKING GROSS and it's only gonna get worse.

Jesse, Monday, 8 October 2007 14:07 (sixteen years ago) link

This is so frustrating! It's OCTOBER. In CHICAGO. Fuck you weather.

Jesse, Monday, 8 October 2007 14:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Supposed to start cooling down tomorrow, down to low 60s by Weds/Thurs.
