yeah, a bit NY-centric, but that's all right. i still don't really understand how anyone stands living there, but that's also just me being a grump.

part of the reason is, i think, that i know that if i came to new york i could get a job. and be surrounded by friends. and maybe even gain some notoriety, which seems to occur whenever i visit.

but that job thing, and paying out the ass to live in some shit studio off the Jefferson L stop, and being surrounded by friends? i feel like i'd get even less done than i do here.

also, admittedly, i'm starting to get weirdly bitter that some of my friends are becoming somewhat famous, and it's only because they live in NYC that it's happening.

i've lived here on-and-off for seven years and am not even remotely famous, if that counts for anything

j03, it's weird. i mean, two friends of mine who weren't even really a band last year around this time played a show at the Standard Hotel last night for some sort of celebrity gala. angelina jolie in attendance and everything. another friend of mine works with Amanda Lepore and is best friends with the Scissor Sisters.

in other words, it's just my jealous side. yeah, i'm buds with some famous writers and musicians and artists, but out here that doesn't mean as much because the Bay Area is like living in a different country.

also, it was a conscious move on my part to not engage with new york in that way, and i love my life out here, but i'm just like, 'HEY GIVE ME A RECORD DEAL.'
