The delicious irony of one of this thread's only Californians being one of its only gay marriage opponents.

2 + 2 is vah-gi-nah (Eric H.), Wednesday, 4 August 2010 23:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Man, my mom is totally going to crank up the old "why don't you two get married" now thang again. But still- awesome news my fellow homos!

I left that one gift wrapped for ya.

Great news to hear, regardless of how you feel personally about getting married.

Janet Privacy Control (corey), Thursday, 5 August 2010 00:09 (thirteen years ago) link

picked this up at a used bookstore but haven't gotten too far into it --

http://www.gaychristian101.com/images/SameSexUnions.jpg

it's mainly focused on liturgical rites but has already had some interesting comments on pre-modern marriage in general. anyone read this? would be interesting to hear an informed opinion on the book's scholarship (drew? casuistry, if u there?)

v happy about the overturning of prop 8 btw

"Ah to be 22, washed up and fuckin' through. You're a pair of K-mart shoes: plastic and phony and with the belief that happiness in life is matrimony. Padlocked to wedlock cuz time's a wastin' to hurry up and waste your life in marriage. Entrapment = death, caught in a web, sentenced to a harsh life of eating meals together and sharing the same bed, ick! How about you just invite me to the divorce instead. Skip the serenade and the bullshit promises your mom and dad would've made. Honeymoon narcosis brains in a love-bong like anyone really waits that long cuz the way I see it you were already fucked way before you ever got fitted for the stupid tux. You are fucking losers, and I hope your kids are ugly."

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:30 (thirteen years ago) link

hey, kids, look - transgression can be boring too!

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:32 (thirteen years ago) link

The time to insult guys rushing to get married -- as I do now with straight couples I know -- is after you've got the legal right to get married in the first place.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:34 (thirteen years ago) link

roll your damn eyes all you want, i know i'm the only one on this thread (and possibly this entire board) that feels the way i do.

i don't feel like arguing it any longer.

but mostly because i love you guyz.

if it makes you happy, i'm happy for you.

xoxot

pounding beats of worship (the table is the table), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:00 (thirteen years ago) link

if it makes you happy, i'm happy for you, unless you actually want to go through with it, in which case, no

righteous lecoq (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:02 (thirteen years ago) link

dude, i actually have no problem with anyone getting married. in fact, that Chuck B. song above is WAY SILLY and i know it.

so quit calling me names. thanks.

pounding beats of worship (the table is the table), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:05 (thirteen years ago) link

So silly that you included a sizable excerpt AND the YouTube, especially after you've made your views clear on the subject on several threads.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:07 (thirteen years ago) link

roll your damn eyes all you want, i know i'm the only one on this thread (and possibly this entire board) that feels the way i do.

You're not but you're the only one who's smug about it.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:08 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm thirty-five and if you wanna compare notches on our bedposts I can play that game, but excerpting a third-rate song to adduce how purportedly trangressive your experiences are is some trolling bullshit.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link

oh, and kisses, tabes. No hard feelings.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:13 (thirteen years ago) link

1. Charles Bronson were fucking awesome. Sorry the lyrics are way silly, but they were an awesome band. Especially live.

2. I don't want to compare anything with anyone. I don't really understand where you got that from, to be honest.

pounding beats of worship (the table is the table), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:17 (thirteen years ago) link

i mean, my sexual experiences have nothing to do with the way i feel about marriage. i only care whether you are happy with whatever sex you are getting.

like seriously, sorry if i pissed anyone off. it was a troll move.

pounding beats of worship (the table is the table), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:20 (thirteen years ago) link

It was a troll move for me to even bring it up in the first place. But it was definitely an irony to note.

No matter; five years from now, all of us in the States will find it our legal option to be duly gentrified.

Gucci Mane hermeneuticist (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:24 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost And I think it's pretty damned transgressive, if you want to look at it that way, to snatch away one of the (supposedly) most sacred bastions of normalcy away from the normals. But that's just me.

Gay marriage passes and all the fags start bickering about nonsense. Welcome to ILX.

ha

ballerrr (The Reverend), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Like...I am invested in the legality of gay marriage in America insofar as DOMA etc. is discriminatory and stupid, and people should have the right to get married if they so choose, but to some extent this seems so foreign to me.

I live in a country where gay marriage has been legal since 2003, and a province where, gay or straight, a sizeable percentage (if not a majority) of people don't bother getting married at all. Quebec is all about common law partnerships, basically. Kind of rocks my world (and pisses me off) that people are still so scandalized by the idea of a couple of dudes or chicks marrying each other. Hopelessly antiquated, and fucking depressing that y'all are still dealing with this, when there are so many more important and less morally obvious issues to work on.

Y /\/\ /\/\ \/ (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Which is to say, yay for the defeat of Prop 8, let's hope it sticks so fagz can get married, and we can all start bickering over things either more important or more trivial.

Y /\/\ /\/\ \/ (Alex in Montreal), Thursday, 5 August 2010 03:44 (thirteen years ago) link

The latter.

I have been listening to "Future Lovers" (from Confessions) sort of nonstop since that dude and I danced to it in his living room last week. Erotica is probably my favorite album, tied with Ray of Light. I mean, it's the one where she does "house"! Also, "Rain".

En Moog (Stevie D), Thursday, 5 August 2010 05:22 (thirteen years ago) link

does "more trivial" mean more obsessive 40-post streaks about all this awful music you guys like?

hey tonight, I went to MARY'S in Atlanta, voted #1 gay bar in USA by the ever-lovin' LOGO Channel. ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I'm gonna give em the ben of the D and say it was a slow night. (and the DJ did play Pulp's "Babies")
