Poll options should be:

- Bestival
- Ultrasound reunion gig
- Giggs
- Radiography conference
- Franz Liszt in 1852
- Staying in and watching Peggy Mitchell die in a fire

Leaning towards the last option.

I was wondering what on earth was going on in this thread to pick up so many new answers to quickly, but I'm super glad I clicked on it.

Lex, you are wonderful. <3

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:03 (thirteen years ago) link

lex has me guiltily laughing @ myself, gotta confess

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:04 (thirteen years ago) link

my actual dilemma is tomorrow, fwd x rinse 16th bday @ fabric or optimo and prins thomas @ corsica. i don't even know if i'll be well enough to go raving ;_;

apparently r kelly's asked for glist for fwd x rinse...but it's at fabric. optimo/prins more likely to end in a bin (not sure if that's a plus or minus), but it's south of the river, ugh.

we were dropped on our heads as babies and now we like ultrasound, football and prawn pizza

lex fear not the south - we're a welcoming sort

assuming the "we" is constant in those sentences, you make south londoners seem like village idiots.

...yeah.

Ekstravaganza is basically the best regular night in London and this one has Optimo + Prins plus Idjut Boys. Also Corsica is the best venue in London that isn't Plastic People.

Matt DC, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:08 (thirteen years ago) link

would really like to go to that but i can't because i'll be at...bestival

jabba hands, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:08 (thirteen years ago) link

that was the first (and last) time i've heard ultrasound and giggs pretty much wins by default

i don't think i can countenance doing a poll, i'd feel like whichever nervous wreck has to sell ppv rights for audley harrison vs nikolai valuev

nakhchivan, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:10 (thirteen years ago) link

ultrasound have a song called 'new direction' hurrrrr

The sulky expression from the hilarious "Aubrey Plaza" persona (history mayne), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:10 (thirteen years ago) link

idk i really didn't feel the prins thomas album. i know that has little bearing on what he'll play out. i don't think i've really liked an optimo mix for a while either. and fabric is easier to get home from if i flake early.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Reading this thread from the bottom up, I thought for one incredible moment that Lex had gone to one of the Ultrasound reunion gigs. If that had happened, Lex, I would have personally kidnapped Nicki Minaj and delivered her to your home to rap your life for you.

ithappens, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:11 (thirteen years ago) link

Prins as a DJ >>>>>>> Prins as a recording artist, though.

(xpost - there is still time)

Matt DC, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:12 (thirteen years ago) link

ppl from north london affectatiously playing up their horror at going saaf vs ppl from south london nurturing strange transpontine resentments

nakhchivan, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:12 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't even know if i could take an hour (or, shudder, more) of...whatever that was that ultrasound were doing, no matter how many nicki minajes were waiting for me at the other end

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:15 (thirteen years ago) link

i can dimly remember ultrasound as a name from the late 1990s, but there were all kinds of no-hope guitar bands getting money in the wake of britpop. like muse, whatever happened to them.

ok here's my favourite Ultrasound song, in case yr all gonna base it entirely on Matt's youtube

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6tCA_k8ddY

this is pretty much the definition of futile but let it not be said that I did not try

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:16 (thirteen years ago) link

btw I have no problem with people from N London - I embrace them and expect them to return the favour

we're fine w/those who dwell south of the river, we just expect you to come into london to meet us

jesper olsen twins (NickB), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:20 (thirteen years ago) link

but I do! every time I meet anyone! this is the first gathering of my friends at mine for what seems like half my adult life

Corsica Studios isn't even *real* South London, it's Elephant and Bloody Castle - you can pretty much *walk* there from the river. (Though, actually, erm, don't. It's still patchy around the Elephant.)

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:22 (thirteen years ago) link

damn i thought ultrasound were early 90s

yeah i wasn't suggesting lj back there, he's very much of the brzezinski school of transpontine realists, unlike those weird trolls who live under bermondsey railway arches singing southlands uber alles

nakhchivan, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:23 (thirteen years ago) link

This. You might as well complain about visiting the royal festival hall or the NFT...

gybe recording already eh

nakhchivan, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:28 (thirteen years ago) link

i used to complain about going anywhere south of liverpool st or west of old st when i lived in dalston! this is a slight improvement.

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:29 (thirteen years ago) link

don't even know how I'm being zung there but if I were Moya I'd almost certainly be writing a 15-minute ode to North London expansionism right now

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:30 (thirteen years ago) link

When I lived in NYC, my brother used to complain that he got The Bends if forced to go below 14th St (god help him if he had to go to a BOROUGH) ha ha ha. I always think about this when people won't go South of the river.

I mean, Elephant and Castle has a TUBE. It is hardly SARF if you know what I mean.

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:32 (thirteen years ago) link

ah but wimbledon is definitely SARF and has three tube stations, tube is no guarantee of non-SARFness

the cusses of 2 live crew (stevie), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:33 (thirteen years ago) link

although if yr south east yr fucked tubewise tbh

the cusses of 2 live crew (stevie), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i worked in E&C for a while

sometimes walked from waterloo/london bridge

definitely south

the tube will sadly be no help to me at whatever 'tween 2-5am hour i decide to return home at

لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:35 (thirteen years ago) link

OK, if the neighbourhood has a TUBE which is not on the Northern or District Lines, it can't *really* be considered true SARF. (Let's haggle over Brixton.)

cymose corymb (Karen D. Tregaskin), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:36 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe I like being fucked tubewise - who wants to descend into the rumbling gut when you can coast up top?

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:36 (thirteen years ago) link

context, posts taken therefrom

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:37 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm just posting this so we don't get any of the terrible innuendi lj will claim not to have anticipated

nakhchivan, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:37 (thirteen years ago) link

alas that post was carefully-sculptured

also night buses: not scary, quite efficient

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:38 (thirteen years ago) link

the funny thing is when i finally moved to north london everyone was like "you'll love how quick it is to get into town" but the west end etc take just as long to get to as a quick skip on the overground and then some tubeage

the cusses of 2 live crew (stevie), Thursday, 9 September 2010 16:54 (thirteen years ago) link

there is certainly a lot of tubeage available in the west end.

Upt0eleven, Thursday, 9 September 2010 17:05 (thirteen years ago) link

didn't see THAT coming

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 17:05 (thirteen years ago) link

The South Bank Centre's in north London. It just happens to be south of the river. And of course it's well north of Fulham and Chelsea and all that twattery.

hey so Ultrasound were rly good and one of their new songs nearly brought the house down

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 23:15 (thirteen years ago) link

it's called 'Sovereign Heart'

acoleuthic, Thursday, 9 September 2010 23:15 (thirteen years ago) link

that scans better than '20 shillings heart'.
