I'll in be in town on the 16th (week on Thursday) to see Wilco - it would be good to meet up if anyone's available...

The Pope's got a gig on at Bellahouston Park, so apparently we're having a traffic apocalypse that day. Will absolutely try to make it though, what time you over at?

ailsa, Sunday, 12 September 2010 17:39 (fourteen years ago) link

There's a chance I'll be shooting Wilco, if I can't get the go ahead to shoot the Pope that is.

krakow, Sunday, 12 September 2010 18:47 (fourteen years ago) link

when i met krakow i told him i had seen him cycling along maryhill road once, from my living room window, then i saw him tonight as well and i shouted "4lex!"at him out of my window like a crazy person.

now he probably thinks i'm a nutter who stands looking out of my window all day and shouting at people.

jed_, Monday, 13 September 2010 01:09 (fourteen years ago) link

It was a grand coincidence. I didn't mind one bit.

It's good to have hobbies.

It looked like a good window for it too.

One has to play to one's strengths after all.

krakow, Monday, 13 September 2010 08:06 (fourteen years ago) link

I'll be in Glasgow from around 3 on Thursday (depending on how crazy the trains are).

Just a reminder for those prepared to face the travel chaos tomorrow, I'll be in town from about 3.

a cankle of rads (Gukbe), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:01 (fourteen years ago) link

did they set the fixture date deliberately so the rangers tards are still comatose in manchester gutters when the pope is in glasgow?

Chinedu "Edu" Obasi Ogbuke (nakhchivan), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:01 (fourteen years ago) link

treefell, can you post here or on your facebook wall (or mine) where you'll be around 5.30/6-ish and I'll do my very best to make it?

ailsa, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:26 (fourteen years ago) link

I haven't actually got any plans, Ailsa. If there's any place you'd recommend, then I'll be happy to go there.

Mono

jed_, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 18:12 (fourteen years ago) link

You're headed to Wilco @ Barrowlands, right treefell?

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 20:25 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, that's right krakow.

treefell, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 21:28 (fourteen years ago) link

Look out for the red-haired cyclist guy in the photo pit. That's me.

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 21:31 (fourteen years ago) link

It does also make Mono rather convenient... ;-)

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 21:31 (fourteen years ago) link

NOT FOR ME, IT ISN'T. Also, won't everyone going to Wilco be going to Mono?

ailsa, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:18 (fourteen years ago) link

(though my attendance is not guaranteed, so I will just go with the flow)

ailsa, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I want to catch Phil Selway (he of Radiohead drumming duties now playing solo) in support, so I'll head to the Barras for 7:30pm or so whatever plan materialises.

krakow, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:24 (fourteen years ago) link

you cycle in the pit? v irresponsible!

ah I miss going to Glasgow + gigs. Whar's me lottery win.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:29 (fourteen years ago) link

er, except that reminds me that I'm going to Joanna Newsom at the Royal Concert Hall on Monday. Good work, memory. Anyone know what time I can expect things there to end?

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:31 (fourteen years ago) link

it varies from artist to artist. Sometimes as early as 10, but never any later than quarter past 11.

a cankle of rads (Gukbe), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:34 (fourteen years ago) link

alright, worst case scenario of missing an encore to catch the lovely last Megabus then. Cheeeeeers.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:39 (fourteen years ago) link

I'll see you at Newsom. I'll be the one cycling up & down the aisles with my camera in hand.

krakow, Thursday, 16 September 2010 07:52 (fourteen years ago) link

gonna struggle to compete with my motorbike, tbh.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Thursday, 16 September 2010 08:56 (fourteen years ago) link

Ailsa, I've sent you a message on Facebook with my mobile no. - that way you can let me know if you're going to be able to make it.

treefell, Thursday, 16 September 2010 10:17 (fourteen years ago) link

Cheers. Will give you a shout.

ailsa, Thursday, 16 September 2010 10:42 (fourteen years ago) link

Wilco were great. It was nice to meet you krakow. Sorry you couldn't make it in Ailsa.

jed_, Friday, 17 September 2010 01:12 (fourteen years ago) link

If I'm remembering my WDYLL correctly I believe I saw you tonight, krakow. Disappointingly not on yer bike, but with those steps the elf n safety fascists would snuff it out on the spot, innit.

Good, wasn't it.

Antoine Bugleboy (Merdeyeux), Tuesday, 21 September 2010 00:53 (fourteen years ago) link

I thought it was absolutely wonderful. Totally exquisite.

one month passes...

I have a week off work coming up, and I would like to not spend it sitting in the house all day doing nothing, but neither would I like to break the bank. What would ilxors recommend for me to fill my seven days with? I'll probably do Kelvingrove and the Transport Museum at some point because, even though I've been a few times before, I never get bored of them, but are there any hidden gems or good ideas you can give me?

Cathedral?

Summerlee is a wee bit out the way but is an interesting (and free) way to kill a couple of hours. You get to go on a tram and down an actual dark scary mine.

new lanark. annie mcleod experience will blow your mind.

Truther Vandross (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 30 October 2010 14:02 (fourteen years ago) link

New Lanark seconded - I love that walk up to the Falls of Clyde. The Tenement House is pretty good, and handy for whatever's on at the CCA if you wanted to go there afterwards.

Madchen, Saturday, 30 October 2010 15:23 (fourteen years ago) link

GOMA always worth a wander round. New Lanark thirded. I like the look of that Summerlee place, might suggest that as a trip for my brother's kids next summer.

If you have a car, Culzean Castle is a great wee day out. If you have National Trust membership, it's all free, but even without you can still just pay for parking and do all the walks and look at the deer and stuff. Our summer days out at Culzean alone more than justify the money we give the National Trust.

Burrell Collection also worth a go, plus Highland cows in Pollok Park!

ailsa, Saturday, 30 October 2010 16:01 (fourteen years ago) link

Spent a year living 25 miles from New Lanark - still have no idea what it is, but I've only ever heard good things about it.

Googling now...

argosgold (AndyTheScot), Saturday, 30 October 2010 16:02 (fourteen years ago) link

Also, rather shamefully, I've never been to the fossil grove in Victoria Park. Go, and report back please.

The Botanics are lovely this time of year (if you can get a rain-free day), and you can try and get into the disused railway station.

We went to a wedding in New Lanark a few years back. It is absolutely lovely.

ailsa, Saturday, 30 October 2010 16:04 (fourteen years ago) link

Good shout on the GOMA - back in the day I used to be one of "those" hanging around outside it, and I always got angry when I realised that I was the only one of my pals who ever actually went inside it. My week is already looking better now, thanks!
