(Can I have the other Stars CD, Y?)

If I had my say in these things, we would all end up here at this dive bar in Chinatown, but it would merely be one another of my "interesting choices" that would be left immediately for some hang in Carroll Fucking Gardens grr.

PS, Dear out of towners: Dancing should take place in a club and only in a club, that is what God built them for. This means a club that you go to specifically for dancing, not a bar in which you enact a pas de deux. Thank you for your appreciation.

(If you were so moved by the music, why are complaining about the music at Lit upthread, huh, punk? Because of the one Flock of Seagulls song they played? If you want to dance you have to pay, suckah.)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:08 (twenty years ago) link

the last night we were there it was like they hired the guy who did your middle school spring dance, you know, they were played all that do the twist do you love me blah blah horrible crap.

I know you have to pay to dance! I'm not saying otherwise! Fuck it maybe I'll just stay home and smoke INSIDE the bar and DANCE WHEREVER I PLEASE.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:17 (twenty years ago) link

Aw Tom I was just teasing...Friends again?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:21 (twenty years ago) link

If it's Bob Saget, I'm there. If it's Belle & Sebastian, I am there. With guns.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:23 (twenty years ago) link

Speaking of Sevignys and bad DJing, I heard that her brother once dropped Jagger and Bowie's "Dancing In the Street" to floor clearing effect.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:24 (twenty years ago) link

Ok friends again!

BTW that really is a great sit-down-and-drink record. It has hardly any other purpose. And then you have to discuss ahem ahem.

TOMBOT, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:33 (twenty years ago) link

(I think Coral might be a better place to go on a weeknight. Our old friend Tobias used to go on Tues. nights and he never mentioned anything to me about a door policy.) One reason I'm not plumping for it for us especially is I bet it's pretty expensive. Though...for $15 I bet you could dance there!

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:41 (twenty years ago) link

I think we should avoid cover-charge places, to encourage attendance.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:43 (twenty years ago) link

Oh yes! Well The Hole is better on Wednesdays than on Saturdays, but its still not bad for a Saturday. And its only a few blocks away from Lit. Lit is going to be incredibly hot and crowded though on Saturday night. The Hole really isn't all that sceney on Saturdays anymore [for better or worse]...

So I think I'm finalizing my CMJ plans. Wednesday: Kindercore then Frenchkiss. I'm pretty sure my dinnerdate isn't going to want to come, and I have a plus-one if anyone's interested. Thursday, Kill Rock Stars afternoon party at Starfoods, then The Shins at Virgin USQ, then the Rough Trade @ Bowery, and then the DFA thing at Tribeca. Zoinks! Saturday, Stars & Soviet at the daystage, Enon & The Rapture at night. Sunday, Salteens in the evening and Slumber Party at night.

Again, anyone got a CMJ badge I can use in the afternoons to go to a few panels?

But last time I was there on Saturday, the DJ played SUGAR SUGAR by THE ARCHIES which is my FAVORITE SONG EVER.

Coral Room is pretty crowded with trashy hos [for better or worse] on weekends! But its pretty cool, but really expensive and theres a cover on the weekends. I think a Hole/Lit combination would be okay. Although neither are really good for sitting and chatting, but at least you can smoke in them. Can't we go to The Cock? or The Slide?

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:49 (twenty years ago) link

Although last time I was at The Hole a few saturdays ago, I walked into the bathroom [they finally installed doors for the men's bathroom!] and there was some dude peeing into the sink and another three people doing lines of coke off the nasty toilet porcelein. I think one of them was L*o F*tzpatrick, who was looking really HOTT...

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 22:55 (twenty years ago) link

Why do these threads always turn into this? Wait, I know exactly why, never mind.

Coral Room being expensive is a big no no I think. I want a place that will play music I want to hear and not be too expensive. I'm starting to think we really SHOULD just go to the Magician and then work it from there once everyone shows up. A) Room. B) Jukebox is decent. C) relatively cheap.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:02 (twenty years ago) link

I 2nd something like the Magician at first, because
1- You can hear people talk
2- It's not crowded
3- It's not expensive

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:04 (twenty years ago) link

Oh ha!ha! The indiepop disco 2000 took place at that 169 Bar, Mary!

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:09 (twenty years ago) link

This "Magician" sounds good to me.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:09 (twenty years ago) link

Because once we get drunk we won't care about not hearing each other talk.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:11 (twenty years ago) link

Once we get drunk my camera comes out and it all goes to shit!!

Allyzay, Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:12 (twenty years ago) link

Although, I think the 11th St. Bar has a curtained backroom with a TV, in case we long for the days of NBC Thrillogy night.

Carey (Carey), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:15 (twenty years ago) link

Phil, how crowded is the Slide on a Sat.? I'd love to go there as well...I would much prefer NOT the Magician but I'm willing to go with the flow...

(X-post) Is that where we went with Hopkins? I'd love to go back there again--though it looked crowded last Sat. we walked past it...

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:22 (twenty years ago) link

Errr,,, Do you all REALLY want to go to The Slide? I totally thought you were joking about that It's as crowded as any other bar on a weekend night, I suppose. Anyhow, I would prefer not Magician as well, in favor of somewhere more, I dunno, fun... But if everyone else wants to go, thats fine too. As long as y'all are there when I show up, unlike the time I trekked up to Siberia to meet Gareth but everyone was already at Lit!@#$

Soviet is playing at Don Hills and my friends are DJ'ing afterwards... And we can get a bunch of comps or something....

phil-two (phil-two), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:41 (twenty years ago) link

Ohhh I want to go to Don Hill's that where I can meet Morrissey look-a-likes!!! I mean, not that I am interested in meeting anyone...

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:42 (twenty years ago) link

(PS I REALLY want to go to the Slide. Please take me sometime, Philster.)

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 21 October 2003 23:43 (twenty years ago) link

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:03 (twenty years ago) link

okee dokee Mary, lets go to The Slide! Only if you promise not to tell anyone anything that might possibly happen - not that anything would.... And maybe you can meet the nineteen-year old who dissed me, since apparently he hangs out there all the time.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:03 (twenty years ago) link

Shit. I don't know what I am talking about. It wasn;t a VV article.

Carey (Carey), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:04 (twenty years ago) link

I am up for dancing, hanging out, etc. and a show if decided, but i'd rather the hanging out and then the dancing in that order.

Also sat eve and sunday are the only days i will be open so no cmj shows for me :-(.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:20 (twenty years ago) link

You will be "open"?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:21 (twenty years ago) link

Mars 2112 has a DJ?!

Allyzay, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:28 (twenty years ago) link

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 00:56 (twenty years ago) link

rudy's = bad idea. it's ALWAYS unbelievably crowded (you and i went there once ally)

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:00 (twenty years ago) link

other possibilities -> holiday coctail lounge (8th and 2nd), hi-fi (10th and a), err....

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:01 (twenty years ago) link

Right, I forgot about it, the backyard joint. They had hot dogs??? Why didn't you tell me??? :(

Spencer's place looks good but does anyone know the price/crowd situation? I've never been

Allyzay, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:03 (twenty years ago) link

well it's on ave b so it's gotta be fairly cheap. but it'll be hard to get to.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:04 (twenty years ago) link

Rudy's is kinda creepy.

Should I start a separate Friday evening/night FAP thread?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:09 (twenty years ago) link

I've never even heard of Spencer's joint, but it looks fun to me. I don't see how Ave B is any harder to get to than Ave A...

Though it's obvious that we should meet at Mr. Chow's.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:09 (twenty years ago) link

:O

My god!

Allyzay, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:15 (twenty years ago) link

Rosemary, I don't want to speak for Mr. Chow, but I had the feeling he might be doing stuff with other friends Fri. night, so a more casual thing might be in order(?)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:17 (twenty years ago) link

(i get in thursday night but i'm busy busy busy thru mid-sat)

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 01:20 (twenty years ago) link

Re: Friday, I'm just not sure. I'll have to play it by ear, depends what my non-ILX friends might want to do (though I doubt it'll be a trip to the Cloisters or something).

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 03:04 (twenty years ago) link

So is this bitch decided? I would like to invite my friends Jackie and Tony Danza to this event but so far my invite reads "Hey we're not sure what we're doing or when but if you wanna come you're welcome to, or just stop by my house earlish in the evening and have beer with me and Tom or something"

Allyzay, Wednesday, 22 October 2003 15:20 (twenty years ago) link

Tony Danza??

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 22 October 2003 17:40 (twenty years ago) link
