Seattle! How is it now? Are there jobs? Should I move there?

Oh cool, that's the walking on water guy! I'd love for them to work in a chunk of the viaduct, but yeah - something has got to keep the area vital in the off-season. Covered, water/snowproof sheltered areas where you can watch the ferries come and go.

what crap that chihuly museum is, what wasted space

sam acre, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 04:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I love and miss Seattle but the idea of a Chihuly museum in Seattle Center is exactly the kind of silliness that makes me shake my head at the place. That, and the Market Optical TV spots, maybe the worst ads I've ever seen.

But Decibel Fest starts this weekend and I can't go (sadface) so EVEN MORE ENVY than usual at those of you still around.

The smoke pouring over I-5 from the Sunny Jim plant smelled like peanuts, as did my car all day yesterday.

the higgs, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 15:24 (thirteen years ago) link

the worst thing about the chihuly museum is that there are underused parking lots on all sides of seattle center. really, you're so into ugly glass art you need a museum for it? great, buy one of those lots and expand seattle center *out* instead of taking public space. dicks. as someone somewhere else said, "we're taking ideas from tacoma?!?"

I get most of the landmarks in that picture above, but what are all the locals taking pictures of around the fremont bridge? It can't all be the troll.

NW Tea Festival next weekend at Seattle Center. I went last year - $5 gets you a teacup and a big bag of freebies and all the tea you can sample.

The people-watching potential (bathroom lines + caffeine jitters) must be A+++.

As festivals go, it's pretty small scale - maybe 2 dozen vendors. This is such a coffee town, tea caffeine doesn't touch us.

Jaq, Friday, 24 September 2010 20:35 (thirteen years ago) link

aww, last year tea festival was the day we had brunch and i met kate and my couch came! trying to plan a hike for this weekend and options are not good :( miss seattle so much right now!

I haven't been to seattle in over two years now but am going to be soon - where should I eat?

joygoat, Thursday, 30 September 2010 05:07 (thirteen years ago) link

my 2 new favorite breakfast places, both south of downtown:

http://www.thesalvadoreanbakery.com/

http://www.yelp.com/biz/pasteleria-y-panaderia-la-ideal-seattle

the latter isn't a sit-down place, but you can take pastries and go over to where they're tearing down the south park bridge and sit and eat and look at the river.

Joygoat: If you're in the mood for great soup at a good bar go to the Hopvine Pub, on 15th and Mercer.

Sandwiches: between noon and 4 only and only Tue-Fri, is Salumi, in Pioneer Square. Arrive early if you plan to eat early, but if you want to just wing it show up around 3. They'll be out of a lot of stuff but there won't be a line, and their leftovers are still good.

Chinese: Hing Loon on Weller and Maynard (near King St.) in the I.D. No atmosphere, great food.

I went to the Chef Bar and Restaurant on 23rd and Jackson the other night, got $9 of real fine Ethiopian food, me and the lady friend couldn't finish it. Katenga = amazing.

clotpoll, Saturday, 2 October 2010 05:16 (thirteen years ago) link

i had the lamb the other night there. maybe the best lamb i've ever had? of any cuisine? wow @ that much subtlety and complexity, and i ate leftovers twice more off it. what a place

con suelo, Saturday, 2 October 2010 05:59 (thirteen years ago) link

;_;

tehresa, Saturday, 2 October 2010 16:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I'd been thinking about Ethiopian anyway so that pretty much seals that.

And I'm hoping to get into town in time to hit Salumi, which I've only done once before. I want to pick up some guanciale and other stuff even if I don't eat there.

joygoat, Sunday, 3 October 2010 01:17 (thirteen years ago) link

If you know what you want, call it in in the morning - they'll have it wrapped and waiting for you and you don't have to wait in the line. Just plow on past everyone and yell that you're there to pick up.
