Oh, I'm sorry, La Lachera. Cockers have a real unparalleled sweetness. You've had each other for a good long time, and I'm sure he loves you.

one month passes...

At my parents' house in Oxford, have discovered a rather sad and lost looking old black lab sitting on the front steps. She has a mobile no. on her tag, but no answer from there, so we've let her into the garden.

ledge, Sunday, 27 July 2008 12:26 (sixteen years ago) link

She seems quite happy in the garden, blithely strolling through and rooting around in the borders, or rolling on the grass

Following a call to the dog warden, she has been collected by her owner. Didn't seem overly eager to be returning home! Apparently she is nine years old, and the last time she went missing she got on a bus headed for Wantage, 20 miles away!

ledge, Sunday, 27 July 2008 12:52 (sixteen years ago) link

That is an excellent grass roll, especially the first photo.

I just read the entire plot of the movie Old Dogs on wikipedia and still have no idea what it's about

Dan and Charlie make it out of the gorilla enclosure and into the penguin exhibit, where the penguin's attack Charlie as Dan hurries away. After once again finding he will not be able to make it to the party, he spots a superhero who has been hired by Vicki to fly in, as Emily wanted a superhero.

Robin Williams plays a penguin, I hope.

fantastic mr. forks (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 29 November 2009 17:24 (fourteen years ago) link

in the profile of robin williams in the times the other week, all they said about this movie was that he didn't want to talk about it.

hellzapoppa (tipsy mothra), Sunday, 29 November 2009 17:41 (fourteen years ago) link

For what i've read on wiki, I'm gonna guess this was a wacky, mildly raunchy teen-comedy that Disney realized was terrible, so they neutered it and are marketing it as a family movie. But that's just a guess

fantastic mr. forks (Whiney G. Weingarten), Sunday, 29 November 2009 17:46 (fourteen years ago) link

a teen comedy starring john travolta and robin williams? i think it was meant to be a middle-aged man comedy in the vein of "wild hogs" which the director also directed.

My parents had to put Molly (one the left) to sleep today. She was nearly 14 and was in pain. I know it's for the best but it's still sad. Dogs shouldn't die god dammit!

sorry to hear that. our dog -- an 11-year old black lab mix -- has a pretty comfortable life: lots of sitting, periodic walks. she used to have so much energy, she was exhausting. now, lots of sitting. we love her like mad.

classic.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 5 August 2010 01:04 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm sorry to hear about that, too. Snowflake, our 16-17 year old miniature Eskie, is still healthy enough to play with the three other little dogs. The only difference is that she doesn't bark anymore--she makes an odd howling/squalking sound.

Stop Non-Erotic Cabaret (Abbbottt), Sunday, 26 December 2010 15:33 (thirteen years ago) link

our lab-mix is about 10 years old, which is v. old for a "jumbo" dog (i say "about" because josie was a stray who wandered up to us while we were walking our (then 11 month-old) daughter, so i'm basing the estimate on the vet's best guess). josie is a total classic. she has always been so protective of, and looked out for, our daughter.

one year passes...

Kenny the whippetlurcher is 17 and a half, the oldest dog in Bloomsbury. His arthritis is making him slowly sit down a lot, people walking him need to pull his lead taut to make sure he doesn't backward-somersault from a standard poo crouch, he can't do stairs apart from up/down curbs, he's gently senile and selectively deaf, and he has cataracts. But he'll have flashes of activity: a slow canter on the lead, whirly food dances when I'm putting his bowl together (expensive renal diet - did I mention his kidneys? - and bits of chicken for smuggling in his Vivitonin, Tramadol, and kidney pills), and the sleep-running he does every night, at exactly 12 am. He's stretched out asleep on my bed right now. Ken still eats with vigour, but can't finish a meal without sitting down.

Everything's pointing toward the end, and I think he's in a certain amount of pain because of the way he breathes now. At some point after the New Year, we've decided to pick a day and summon the mobile vet, but nothing's properly decided yet. But this is so hard, because he's such a gorgeous dog in every respect and so very, very loved.
