Nice, hope there's a Roeg-boxset a la Cassavettes.

Chungking Express will be awesome I bet. The current US DVD is a disaster.

can't wait to get rid of my chungking dvd w/tarantino's mug

omar little, Thursday, 8 May 2008 00:13 (sixteen years ago) link

i want the 5 hour cut of Bottle Rocket (for some reason)

Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved, Thursday, 8 May 2008 00:15 (sixteen years ago) link

I, too, came here to post about Chungking.

So what's a good blu-ray player? I keep wanting to get a PS3 for that and GTA IV, but the latter is better on the xbox I think? And consoles make too much noise. Toshiba blu-ray?

mh, Thursday, 8 May 2008 01:17 (sixteen years ago) link

I can't understand getting a blu ray player instead of a PS3 at this point. None of the stand alone players seem to have a killer feature (and none of them play PS3 games) and aren't really cheaper.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 8 May 2008 01:36 (sixteen years ago) link

Cheapest player on Amazon is $393.84. PS3 is $399 and the remote control is $20.

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 8 May 2008 01:38 (sixteen years ago) link

Does the PS3 have a timer display? That's all I look for in a player.

C. Grisso/McCain, Thursday, 8 May 2008 01:39 (sixteen years ago) link

Wow, they're doing "El Norte"!

I had no idea it was a big enough movie to get this kind of treatment, that's really great.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 8 May 2008 01:53 (sixteen years ago) link

xpost, you mean like a clock? I put black tape over those!

Spencer Chow, Thursday, 8 May 2008 03:07 (sixteen years ago) link

Contempt

if they went with pierrot le fou I'd be tempted. but I guess they wanted hi-def bardot-butt.

two months pass...

Someone help!

I'm trying to narrow this list down to two...which TWO of these do I need to own? All things considered...the film, the package, the extras, etc. etc.

House of Games
Jubilee
My Own Private Idaho
Naked
Ran
Stranger Than Paradise
Two-Lane Blacktop

Reatards Unite, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:11 (fifteen years ago) link

Sorry, Hate (L'Haine) was supposed to be on there too! Make sure it is considered.

Reatards Unite, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Checking out the deepdiscout sale I presume?

C. Grisso/McCain, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:12 (fifteen years ago) link

Ran
Stranger Than Paradise

Charlie Rose Nylund, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:13 (fifteen years ago) link

Of course. I've got a bunch of other Criterions but haven't bought any for a couple years now. Pretty exciting. I wish I could afford four, but...alas.

Reatards Unite, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:17 (fifteen years ago) link

Two-Lane Blacktop, but two copies.

If not that, TLB and Ran.

milo z, Friday, 25 July 2008 17:21 (fifteen years ago) link

House of Games is fun, but it doesn't look any better on DVD than on the regular cable showings (or maybe IFC doesn't have it in heavy rotation anymore?).

I hear that. I got the Varda box from them a few weeks back during the password sale (came out to like 55 bucks), which was probably the only way I could get it. Wanted to get the Rohmer one then too, but they suddenly stopped carrying it.

ryan, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 01:46 (fifteen years ago) link

id be all over hiroshima mon amour, but that's a favorite of mine and i think other people feel pretty differently about it!

ryan, Wednesday, 17 December 2008 01:46 (fifteen years ago) link

La Jetee/San Soleil has a great rewatch for $ value if they have that.

swamp buggy badass (negotiable), Wednesday, 17 December 2008 02:06 (fifteen years ago) link

naked city is an awesome movie. making me think of the great sam fuller titles criterion has. oh, pick up on south street! not as good, really, but i liked it a lot.

i looked at their website and saw they're starting to release their titles on blu-ray. made me realize how much i'm dreading the format change
