xpost we had to destroy that park in order to save it

I didn't realize that the money from these leases would go into the city's general fund rather than Dolores Park or Park & Rec. If that's true it is kind of lame.

Tartine's coffee is also great btw.

annie and i were talking yesterday about this, and i think i concluded that tartine does the best job with four barrel coffee, and is probably my favorite coffee in the mission. i think it's like this for me, among the places i ever go for coffee:

tartine > ritual > atlas > dynamo > grand > little spot.

oakland's modern coffee (my every-morning spot) is pretty great, too. probably runnin even w atlas in the above ranking.

69, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:23 (thirteen years ago) link

<3 tartine, but they do a better job with four barrel coffee than four barrel does?

bike chain dust? (lukas), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:24 (thirteen years ago) link

only time i had four barrel at four barrel, i was like ehh. but that was just once.

69, Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Four Barrel does a great job with Four Barrel coffee, but I always get americanos there so maybe they do a less good job with their press/drips.

Dynamo Donuts does the best job with Dynamo Donuts.</controversial statement>

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Four Barrel is also my favorite space out of all of these places.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:28 (thirteen years ago) link

Admittedly there is no space at Tartine or Ritual so that kind bias it in their favor.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:29 (thirteen years ago) link

xxxp fair enough.

i like how they clearly spent $$$ to renovate and have the ridiculous affectation of leaving the previous tenant's half-broken sign in place, making it look like an empty storefront from half a block away.

bike chain dust? (lukas), Wednesday, 20 October 2010 19:29 (thirteen years ago) link

On a related, but not really, topic: the Blue Bottle @ the Mint is maybe one of the worst organized up establishments I have even been to. The line takes forever and for no good reason as far as I can tell.

MissionRat says:

I personally am glad that we can go to the Summit to enjoy Blue Bottle and keep Dolores Park beautiful and a commercial free zone. There are plenty of brick and mortar spaces that are empty and need renters. I personally am glad that I get to continue doing yoga every morning like I have for the past 5 years in the park without interruption and long lines surrounding me. If James Freeman needs to come out looking like the "good guy" then so be it.

i'd rather see a blue bottle coffee cart than some dude doing yoga, if we're talking in terms of keeping the park beautiful

want to go to chilango.

also, my friend's girlfriend got the windows smashed out of her car while she was parking in the mission, and then they robbed her at gunpoint.

it's cool, our team won, but seriously, priorities need straightened.

saw on the news someone got dragged out of their car and beaten in the Mission last night. Go Giants!

Shenanigans!

nothing bad happened to me in the Mission last night, for what it's worth. I didn't see any rioting, or any cops, or any criminals (actually the streets were pretty empty - and I was out and about at 10pm). there was a lot of honking and yelling though.

klacktoveedesteen (Shakey Mo Collier), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 16:00 (thirteen years ago) link

Didn't see any violence but I saw much craziness last night in the Lower Haight. Haight between Fillmore and Steiner was essentially shut down for more than an hour.

it's just kinda unsettling, esp. in light of the Chron/sfgate coverage that glosses over the fucked up behavior that if the context were about something other than sports, it would have been reported differently.

Jon Williams?

It's funny to see $5 and Red Devil Lounge mentioned in the same sentence as that's usually the stage to countless $20 coverbands. Good for them for stealing talent away from Kimo's and the Hemlock.

i love you but i have chosen snarkness (Steve Shasta), Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:30 (thirteen years ago) link

sarahel, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:33 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah my best friend works there and arranged the show. it's a welcome change, to say the least.

amazing how popular coverbands are, particularly with the mid-30s tech stock set

moonship journey to baja, Tuesday, 2 November 2010 19:34 (thirteen years ago) link

also if you (not that many of the outraged people on this thread actually saw them firsthand) think SF's"riots" were bad, you should go down to LA after the Lakers clinch the NBA championship. I mean c'mon, 6 arrests? Two related acts of violence? Spraypaint? Fireworks?
