I've been using midomi to find good trance songs by making them up

the thing is its very slow for anything other than entering tasks into the inbox and checking tasks off. i wouldn't want to build projects in it. i just check stuff off as i "get it done" (ho ho) outside the house and sort of drop stuff in the inbox. when i get home it's already all sync'd up usually and i can use the inspectors in the desktop version to really quickly assign due dates and contexts and just generally clean stuff up.

This is good to know. I might try out Things, then.

How well does the "location aware" task list work?

i haven't even tried it yet because i just moved and that's not really how my contexts are organized.

TBH, i find the idea sort of confusing because i had always thought that the point of a context list was to be intentionally vague. my contexts are "on the phone" (ie while driving, ha), "running errands", "at work" and "at home".

if i had a context list that looked like "safeway on lomas santa fe", "safeway on el camino real", "whole foods on la jolla village dr", "whole foods on university", etc etc then i might as well just use a pad & paper, right?

i just wonder how it might make sense to use it. i guess it might make more sense if i had a job like, i dunno, process server or traveling salesman or something where i had to spend all day every day driving all over town, and i might forget to do this one errand or other while i am in a random part of town. but if there is some task that requires more than 10 minutes travel, then with gas prices being what they are there is no way that i wouldn't already be going to the trouble of scheduling things on top of one another so that i can save trips.

the yellowpages app is pretty good for this, actually. i can search for "office supplies" and use "location" and it gives me a list of stores arranged by distance or by alphabetical name. already came in handy a few times for finding things like ATMs and drugstores.

i guess yelp would be good too but i don't really trust the yelp reviewers. worst of my generation, i think.

I have somehow populated my iphone's contacts with my gmail address book contacts and so I now have several entries for the same people all with just an e-mail address - howtf has that even happened? I mean, howtf could a normal sync even do that?!

I think I found the culprit: 10.5.3's introduction of "sync with google" - anyone else had a problem with this?

Try and type "firefox" in notes app. It's impossible not to type firefix.

Hmm. Turning off Push in settings seems to save a lot of battery life, even though nothing I was using supported it.

anyone else marvelling at that apology from apple over me.com, then? can't post it here now -- posting this from the iPhone -- but is basically hand-wringing "we made a dick of it, lads" stuff ... and them saying they're not going to use the terminology "push" until it's a proper instant push service.

We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.

Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.

Another snag we have run into is our use of the word "push" in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe "cloud," changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.

We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.

i'm keeping it off. i fucking loathe the idea of things being "pushed" at me [1]. i will check my e-mail when i want to, thank you.

does pandora really work well over edge?

daaaamn. i just DO NOT HAVE THE TIME. but that's the kind of thing that could theoretically get me back into gaming.

pandora works great over edge because it's streaming at 56kbps mono. sounds better than you'd imagine though.

i wonder how many "free" apps will start charging? apparantly shazam will, and pandora will have audio ads.

"Remote" is awesome, a total godsend.

Newe version of NYTimes app is out, handles syncing properly (but still takes its time about it)
