It's pretty disgusting. I think mainly because, like Roxy said, only complete assholes would actually use that phrase in speech.
Good Christ, people. Everybody relax and just admit that SJP could use (a) a few pounds and (b) a nose job.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:16 (eighteen years ago)
I'm not saying this as some kind of pro-fat thing nor am I criticizing liking "little" women...whether little means short or petite or thin or whatever! But the gestalt idea that a woman is better if there's less of her in all directions kind of denies her the right to a physical self. It's...probably just better to avoid phrasing things that way.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:17 (eighteen years ago)
xp give me those almond truffles right now.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:19 (eighteen years ago)
Also, this is what I look like, day in and day out

This is true. He was like that at the bar.

Laurel, you and I could not agree more. The day that I actually use the phrse "tight little body" and mean it will be the day that my wife smacks me in the back of the head with her Smith College diploma.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:22 (eighteen years ago)
Oh good. :)
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)
ts: tight little body vs. loose booty
― Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:24 (eighteen years ago)
Sometimes I am very very earnest despite my best efforts to develop a thick scale of jaded ennui.
so we can't praise women for being small but we can hound them for having a big nose?
― Surmounter, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:25 (eighteen years ago)
Absolutely. The large nose means that they must be at least part Jewish.
a woman is better if there's less of her in all directions
Also - this idea is perpetuated by people whose ideas of attractive never moved past middle school.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:26 (eighteen years ago)
Well, not that I said anything about her nose, but...one is actually misogynistic, the other is just mean. I'm pretty okay with mean.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:26 (eighteen years ago)
Everybody relax and just admit that SJP could use (a) a few pounds and (b) a nose job.
ha well so could i
― gff, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:28 (eighteen years ago)
xp to BLAM, you know what they say about high school girls: no matter how old you get, they always stay exactly the same age.
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:28 (eighteen years ago)
Chloe S. is a more successful version of the SJP look.
― Eazy, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:30 (eighteen years ago)
loosey goosey
― Jordan, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)
"damn what're we even allowed to say anymore, jeez"
― Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)
Oh my fuck, WHY!?!?!?!
I'm not advocating masochism, but actively trying to develop a hide to protect you from life's annoying-yet-amusing little slights misses the point. Old people are so much fun to talk to b/c they've lived.
And that's really what I want to say to LiLo - Live! Stop fake tanning and redoing what's already been done. Get the fuck out there and live!
And don't ever hide the freckles. EVER.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:31 (eighteen years ago)
uhm but chloe is a giantess aryan blonde who looks nothing like sjp?
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:32 (eighteen years ago)
But she's got a bit of a schnoz. I don't mind the schnoz.
― Eazy, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:33 (eighteen years ago)
i mean i picture sjp being 5 feet tall and chloe is more like 6
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:33 (eighteen years ago)
They might have the same stylist.
― Eazy, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:34 (eighteen years ago)
i like a tight little schnoz

Is Chloe that tall? I never realized that while watching Big Love, but I guess she hunches a bunch in that show, now that I realize it.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:35 (eighteen years ago)
Q. A fetish? I've never even heard of a big nose fetish. What's so special about noses?
A. The nose is directly in the center of the face and is one of the features that comes to identify who a person is. If you don't believe me, then look at this picture of Marisa Tomei, suitably morphed to have a larger nose. It doesn't really look like her any more does it? For one with a nose fetish, the nose takes on an even more important role in defining and enhancing the beauty of its owner. Our fetish may be unusual, but it is not all that different in concept from many other "body enhancement" fetishes. Many friends of ours are interested in multiple breasts, extremely large breasts, in the concept of body inflation and a host of other interests. Check out the links for more information.

OK I've always been into women with a prominent schnoz but that page is weird.
― Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:38 (eighteen years ago)
This reading still kind of bothers me, though. I agree that there's something pernicious about the preference for "tight little bodies" (and not just in the phrasing), but I feel like you're trying to turn it into a metaphor for the amount of respect men have for women, whereby preferring smallness suggests that men would rather women not be there at all. Which just seems like way too much of a leap to me. If you do want to psychoanalyze it, it makes more sense to say that a preference for smallness may indicate a desire to dominate, but I don't think that this is the same thing as negating the woman altogether, nor even disrespecting her.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:39 (eighteen years ago)
Or not necessarily the same thing. In plenty of instances, it probably is.
― jaymc, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:42 (eighteen years ago)
its not negating the woman altogether, its reducing her size to the level of objecthood
― max, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)
jay, OTM.
It could also be, as I figured out from a few of my friends who seem to have an inability to date any woman over 5'2"/115lbs. - They want someone that they can feel like they are protecting. From what? Who the fuck knows? They just want to feel like they're needed, because, without their big, strong protector of a man, those little girls are gonna get killed, raped, beat up, taken advantage of, etc.
Kind of a really, really wierd daddy thing.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:46 (eighteen years ago)
kind of a pedo thing, sounds like
― bell_labs, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)
Man, I hope my punctuation improves over the course of the next week - if I use commas and hyphens that loosely in the bar exam, I am fucked!
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:47 (eighteen years ago)
that hannah montana has a tight little body
― max, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:48 (eighteen years ago)
Yeah, maybe, but without any of the inherent taboos that pedo has with it. With THOSE guys, a huge part of the turn-on is that this is pretty much verboten by any societal norms today. Whereas these doll-daters really just want this perfect, little woman replicant that they can worship/protect.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:49 (eighteen years ago)
Despite hating his songs, I would not want to fight Billy Ray over this - he's got some guns.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:50 (eighteen years ago)
y'know, everyone's got their own idea of beauty and I don't necessarily think there's anything wrong with psychoanalyzing it a little, but all this "you like skinny women, you've got a creepy daddy/doll complex" shit is really getting into some sub-Freudian quackery.
― Alex in Baltimore, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:52 (eighteen years ago)
nor am I criticizing liking "little" women...whether little means short or petite or thin or whatever!
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:59 (eighteen years ago)
Nothing wrong with having a thing for people with a certain dress style, physical build, or ethnic background. And people shouldn't be made to feel bad about what they like.
Still, somehow, "tight little body" grosses me out.
― contenderizer, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 18:59 (eighteen years ago)
Oh whatever, this is not the thread for it. My last words on the subject: sometimes big guys find shorter or smaller ladies endearing, I think, because they are everything the guys are not, and the "other" will always have its appeal out of sheer otherness. Nothing wrong with that. But when men do repeatedly state a pref for small/innocent/young/childlike/thin/"tight" etc women who are not outwardly powerful and seem unaware of their own potential, I do sort of wonder what insecurity is being played out here. (NB I have also known several skinny tiny men who liked not-small women and I'm sure issues of physical presence and substance are in play there, too!)
I DO NOT, however, think "tight little body" has anything to do with that nec except in being assholeish and we've already established the important thing, which is that if BLAM was serious and his wife found out, she'd beat him up for us. Problem solved!
― Laurel, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 19:07 (eighteen years ago)
And I'm all for people having their preferences - different strokes for different folks.
But it went seriously overboard with one dude in particular. Each successive romantic interest, of which there were five that I knew of in the time I was close with him, were all within those boundaries.
Plus, there were the three fights he picked because of percieved, but ultimately imagined, slights against said women.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 19:09 (eighteen years ago)
she'd beat him up
She really only does this when I ask her to.
― B.L.A.M., Wednesday, 20 February 2008 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
uh
― BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:03 (eighteen years ago)
this "tight little body" thing is a red herring - guys who use that phrase are after Tara Reid or Lucy Liu; they have no interest in SJP.
and I'm not a doctor, but I won't agree that someone needs a nose job or any other kind of plastic surgery unless they have had some sort of injury or debilitating dysmorphia or something
― gabbneb, Wednesday, 20 February 2008 21:24 (eighteen years ago)
haha in what universe does tara reid have a tight little body.
