the actual picture was from the underground conveyor belt that connects the East and West wings of the National Gallery of Art. we tried to take a few quick pictures in sequence (standing veeery still) with the intention of animating them later, but it didn't work so well!

― whiney trollins vs. hipsters (dayo), Monday, 8 November 2010 02:04 (thirteen years ago) link
on the conveyor belt, no, in some of the exhibits, yes. they were very inconsistent with their photography policy, and i sorta felt bad for the guards because it seemed like 99% of their job was telling people not to take pictures!

At the end of the spit there's about 6 houses mostly belonging to lifeboat crew and their families. Sometimes in rough winter seas the road back is cut off for a few weeks. Wd make good Playboy of the Western World remake.

It's from Protect and Survive, a campaign put together in the late 70's in the UK to be played on television and radio in case of an imminent nuclear attack. There are 20 television spots/short films, and they have this aesthetic to them that I just find so beautiful and terrifying.
Here's the last and creepiest in the series. They all have that sound at the end. Good lord that sound.

I know exactly what you mean! I am also morbidly fascinated by those things. British 70s PSAs in general were creepy as fuck - have you seen those kids safety ones where the kids all come to greif one by one on a farm? One drowns in a PIGSHIT SLURRY. D:

The narrator for 'Protect & Survive' was Patrick Allen, and his voice is on Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Two Tribes'. He died a few years back, but a soundalike does the narration for X Factor ("It's time! To face! The end of the world! The music!")

Oh. My. God. That would have fucked me up if I saw that as a kid! WTF is it even warning you against? Leaving the house if you live on a farm?
― twisted sister hazel dickens (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 9 November 2010 14:37 (thirteen years ago) link
Patrick Allen's a legend, also did the v/os for Reeves and Mortimer.
