on my way to work today i broke a downed power line with the windshield of my car

while i was on the phone talking my parents out of driving around and doing errands.

after which the ghost of an old miner leapt out of the snowdrifts and pickaxed me in the brain.

I am now at work because i am stupid, soon i will eat the bagel i brought with me, which i will choke on, dying alone with no one to hear my crumbly screams. on monday our guitar teacher will find my frozen body in rictus, one blue hand outstretched to the water bottle that remains eternally out of reach.

mailman just arrived, his shock at seeing another living soul evident in his eyes, we embraced, fellow soldiers in the great war.

Hoping it will be a cold, cold winter so I can justify my misanthropic tendencies and stay home all the time reading books & watching movies & drinking tea.

Please note: the Latin root for commiseration is "misery". And even though it isn't, it is now.

flight home was canceled, and jetblue doesn't have another flight until january 14. luckily i found another airline that's leaving tomorrow that's not charging $1000 for a middle seat.
