oh, i'd be there for that but the rain. can't stand the rain.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 20:43 (seventeen years ago) link

So.. I ordered these 2 presents for Nick on a popular website where you can buy books, dvds, whatever you want... back in NOVEMBER. I never received them. I called today and they said I should have gotten them 2 weeks ago, so they're resending. Then just now a postman came by my office and delivered the package. I was like wha wha whaaaa? Sure enough, it's the original package. Immediately afterwards, I got an email from THATSITE saying my replacement order just shipped. One of the two items was supercheap but the other would be worth @$30. I guess I have to tell them and send back the second one, huh?

(I know EZ will appreciate that.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:00 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh yes.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:07 (seventeen years ago) link

That's a tough one, Sarah. I guess I would start by sending them an email saying that you recieved the package in the mail but two weeks past the due date is ridiculous. I would apologize for the mix up & for their having to send out dual packages, but that you would like some kind of compensation.
Or, if you're not feeling honest, you can either: return package two & ask for a refund or take contents of package #2 to a store that doesn't require receipts (like borders) & go to town.

Sweet Tater (kelstarry), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:12 (seventeen years ago) link

Also quite frankly if you were expecting them as Christmas presents you might consider just keeping the 2nd shipment. I ordered from REI for xmas and, even though my items happened to arrive in time, because of weather & air travel the company PREDICTED that they'd be late, so they sent me $25 credit anyway. Don't think I'm not going to spend that credit just because the package arrived!

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:14 (seventeen years ago) link

can we have tt at my office? would you guys mind picking up some beers and coming out to the western 'burbs? 'cause i could really use one about now and i don't think i'll be getting out of here anytime soon.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:16 (seventeen years ago) link

It'd be totally awesome if Kev's work blocked all those websites and forbade office xmas presents but was just fine with a bunch of random people showing up and getting drunk on the premises.

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:23 (seventeen years ago) link

yeah, i'm guessing they wouldn't be so cool with it actually. we'll need to hide out in the big conference room or downstairs in the file room.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:24 (seventeen years ago) link

hey, there's a chase bank on one of the irving/sheridan corners, right?

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:25 (seventeen years ago) link

What's that cocktail lounge between Forest Park and Oak Park, just south of the last stop on the green line? That would be a good place for TTs.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:26 (seventeen years ago) link

I might send a grumpy email or do nothing. I guess I should wait and see if I really do get the second package first. Since the first package was officially 'lost in the mail' and they didn't require a signature, I think they would be none the wiser. BWAH HA HA.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:27 (seventeen years ago) link

xpost I seem to remember, hazily, you finding a worthy bank when we were up there once before...

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:27 (seventeen years ago) link

omg grades are starting to come in. Thank god this afternoon consists of yoga and then beer or I would probably have a heart attack.

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:28 (seventeen years ago) link

uhm, if you mean the "nutbush" i don't think it opens until later. i've been there, turns out it's a gay bar. i was hoping it was a roadhouse whose name was some sort of homage to tina turner but no, apparently it's referring to pubes.

erm, xpost to eazy.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:29 (seventeen years ago) link

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:32 (seventeen years ago) link

I assumed EZ was talking about Hala Tahiki in River Grove.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:34 (seventeen years ago) link

Were you and Dan the ones punching it?

Party Time Country Female (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:34 (seventeen years ago) link

I want to see everyone, but also I have negative dollars and shouldn't be out spending money and drinking. Also, it's rainy. Also, it's far away. Also, I'm lame.

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Kahiki, rather.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:35 (seventeen years ago) link

we should DEFINITELY GO TO HALA KAHIKI!!!!

it's an awesome place, sarah would like it because all they serve are fruity drinks. they do not serve beer. they do not serve food. the "dr. funk of tahiti" will knock you on your ass.

it was also the place where me and towga went on our first date. :(

still, i wanna go. we should definitely go in spring.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:36 (seventeen years ago) link

I have been known to punch a machine now and again, but I can't say I've ever punched that one. We were both pretty close to punching a dude in that bar that night, though!

daniel striped tiger (OutDatWay), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:36 (seventeen years ago) link

Were you and Dan the ones punching it?

no but we were there on friday.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:37 (seventeen years ago) link

holy shit, i forgot about that.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:37 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, I have wanted to go to Hala Kahiki for a while. I think New City had some article about the 40 Best Bars in Chicago a few years back, and it made the list.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:40 (seventeen years ago) link

i remember jen telling me we were going to her super secret bar that no one knows about. then the morning we were going to go it was featured on the nbc5 morning show. when we showed up that night it was packed, on like a wednesday. it was never like that before, she said. always been packed every time we'd go back.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:42 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, Kevin, Nutbush is the one I meant - it always looked like an old cocktail lounge, and I thought it was an Ike and Tine reference too. Hmm. TTs at a gay cocktail lounge in Forest Park, anyone?

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:52 (seventeen years ago) link

Speaking of bars that I can never remember the name of, I went to one a few weeks ago right by the Rockwell stop on the brown line. Feels very much like a small-town bar, wide range of ages and ethnicities, pool and a good jukebox, and, on a Saturday night, $5 pitchers, though all they have on tap is Miller Lite and Michelob Dark.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:54 (seventeen years ago) link

there are a ton of bars on madison in forest park. i guess this is left over from the days when oak park was dry. it was still dry except for poor phil's until a couple years ago.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:56 (seventeen years ago) link

Mmm... Fruity drinks...

I'm Fuzzy (coco), Thursday, 4 January 2007 21:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Another ambitious TT idea would be to take the Metra up to Highwood, where we could start at Froggy's and then go to the Nite 'n' Gale.

Eazy (Eazy), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Sarah and I may or may not show up tonight. We're deciding after the gym. But probably yes. But maybe no.

Good band name for a sleazy stoner rock band: Vice President.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:07 (seventeen years ago) link

I thought Oak Park was still dry? I remember having to go to a bar in River Forest or Forest Park after band practice -- this would've been in summer 2005. Also no beer at the Jewel on Madison/Ridgeland.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:09 (seventeen years ago) link

I kind of want to do this, but also it would be crazy, bbbut also, I could be SO HOLIER-THAN-THOU!

there is now beer at the dominick's on lake st. poor phil's openend in like '79 or something and was the first place to have a liquor licence in oak park. a bunch of other restaurants have them (flat top, this place that used to be on o.p. ave that was wicked expensive and not very good, you can get beer at gepettos, hemmingway bistro, winberie, lalo's, etc.). the avenue ale house opened in 2001 or 2002, it used to be more of a bar than a restaurant but it's since been expanded. there's a wine bar opening on lake street a couple doors down from flat top. it's not dry but i don't think there are any real bars either.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

actually, beer, wine, liquor at that dominicks.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

they still buy food, right?

horseshoe (horseshoe), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:14 (seventeen years ago) link

To go beyond recycling in trying to counteract the negative global environmental etc.

Ha, wouldn't you have to start recycling first? LOL Chicago etc.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:15 (seventeen years ago) link

later chicago, see you at the bar.

chicago kevin (chicago kevin), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:20 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear cat hair,

You may soon be seperated from your host cat, Chief Petty Officer Brenda Waterbed. See, you're fuzzy and make Brenda cute, but you get on my blankets which is way worse than just getting on my clothes because of the tremendous amount of hair that can collect on so large an area. The result today is that there are rolled up balls of lint and cat hair studding all of my garments. They are tough wads with the tenacity of the burrs you pick up on your socks during a hike.

Also, as hot as this apartment is, Brenda will be warm enough without you.

WOO SHOPLIFTING!

Today I got: a regular, boring, but perfectly serviceable edition of Carrie for $9.99.

Also, a two-disc deluxe edition of Double Indemnity that would ordinarily cost $50 for exactly $0.

The savings are obvious.

Why don't more people shoplift from Borders? I mean, come on!

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:51 (seventeen years ago) link

This shoplifting trip, btw, is dedicated to Jenny and Jeff, who very much love the two movies I ripped off. Here's to ya.

(wink)

there to preserve disorder (kenan), Thursday, 4 January 2007 22:54 (seventeen years ago) link

That tears it.

Jeff. (Jeff), Thursday, 4 January 2007 23:07 (seventeen years ago) link

Exactly.

You know, I'm glad I stole this. Disc two is nothing but a watered-down "TV" version of the movie. WORTHLESS.
