i started watching this like 5 minutes into it and i could not make heads nor tails of what was going on

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Friday, 19 November 2010 05:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Interesting to find out that Dan Harmon doesn't actually have a writer's credit since the second episode of the first season, and that there are SO MANY writers on this show. That's why the episodes are so different from week to week. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Community_episodes

tbh, I figured while I was watching tonight's episode that Harmon had gone crazy one night and hammered this script out in 20 minutes in a fit of delusional brilliance.

I don't know!

...but-- but--

I don't know!

this was kind of amazing, tbh

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Friday, 19 November 2010 08:03 (thirteen years ago) link

except the abed/troy bit at the end (it's mainstream, shut it down) was pretty wince-y. the meta jokes are funny but a little too close to the wind sometimes.

also: yeah, alison brie's physical acting was pretty phenomenal. actually, pretty much everyone was a little more cartoonish in this one, now that i think about it.

BIG MUFFIN (gbx), Friday, 19 November 2010 08:07 (thirteen years ago) link

totally awesome.

Having finished a stint at community college just about a year ago, and taking more than half of my classes at night, I can back up the authenticity of the inherent creepiness of a campus after dark. The freaks come out.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 19 November 2010 08:34 (thirteen years ago) link

chase thru the fort was pretty great

the parade thing was straight out of hitchcock. 39 steps? nbnw?

s.clover, Friday, 19 November 2010 21:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought it was more of a parody of different movie chase scenes. Hitchcock came to mind, as well as The Fugitive Harrison Ford version.

lol @ Jeff being a jack in the box. But why is Shirley topless and in a diaper?

Also, that's John Oliver in the wizard garb I presume?

Holy shit.

EveningStar (Sund4r), Saturday, 20 November 2010 03:00 (thirteen years ago) link

excited for claymation now!

Kevin Corrigan is the shit, he was great as the bowling-alley shrink in Fringe too.

And omg the fort chase was terrific.

That is the stench of tyranny (VegemiteGrrrl), Saturday, 20 November 2010 03:03 (thirteen years ago) link

great episode. I love conspiracy theories/political thriller type stuff, this one was great. No less then the "this is a zombie film pastiche" or "this is an action film pastiche", just less reliant on props/costumes. And Kevin Corrigan always kills it.

omg that claymation, i'm going to die. is pierce a teddy bear?

Annie was off-the-charts awesome in this episode, her lolling around in the hallways yelling "bleep bloop" was so defiant and unabashed.

according to Dan Harmon, the stop-motion Christmas episode is going to be completely stop-motion, not just portions interspersed with live action. someone tell Perpetua so he can get a head start on complaining.

Oh I can't wait.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 23 November 2010 23:28 (thirteen years ago) link

So I basically just rewatched the first season of Community with friends who had never seen it before and watching it again (esp from the Debate episode and onward) is somehow making me love the show even more. I love how the relationships were in that season and how they evolved perfectly into what they are today. Like the conspiracy episode really only worked because of the relationship between Annie + Jeff which took that Debate episode to shift (the show was single-mindedly about Jeff + Britta in the first half of the first season) and then the Pascal's Triangle episode to really give the payoff.

The commentaries (on every episode!) are pretty great, especially about which lines were ad-libbed. Of course, I can't remember a single example right now.

oh man there are commentaries on the dvd? i fucking hate not being american at times.

I liked it.

Lightning Is For Babies (Johnny Fever), Friday, 3 December 2010 01:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I notice they've been underlining Abed's Asperger's more and more over the past few episodes.

R Baez, Friday, 3 December 2010 02:57 (thirteen years ago) link

The Lifetime of episodes.

Kerm, Friday, 3 December 2010 03:02 (thirteen years ago) link

That was really good! Troy realizing adults are not smarter ;_;

Lol @ Abed & the Farscape conversation. That happened to me at bar once with a dude who liked Bruce Springsteen. At the end of the night he asked my friend for my number. I spazzed out when she told me and she was all "Well why did you talk to him all night?"
Me: "(Shrug) I just thought he liked Bruce Springsteen!"

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 3 December 2010 05:31 (thirteen years ago) link

i dig the characters so much that i'm totally cool with the emo elements.

also Troy's "Abed, nobody likes a tattle tale" was lol.

Gukbe, Friday, 3 December 2010 05:32 (thirteen years ago) link

xpost - that has been most of my experiences with extended chats in bars tbh.

Gukbe, Friday, 3 December 2010 05:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Lol.

And yeah otm, they're at the point where they can do anything and I'll go along.

Seeing Joel McHale next Saturday, pretty excited imo (<3 btw)

Square-Panted Sponge Robert (VegemiteGrrrl), Friday, 3 December 2010 05:38 (thirteen years ago) link

For two milliseconds I was scared Troy and Annie were going to kiss in her hallway, so I'm glad they didn't. (not that kisses on this show have led to anything by the time of the next episode)

Señor Mexico (Johnny Fever), Friday, 3 December 2010 05:39 (thirteen years ago) link

Chevy messing around in the birthday cake was pretty funny, btw.

Señor Mexico (Johnny Fever), Friday, 3 December 2010 05:40 (thirteen years ago) link

not sure how i feel about this one -- i laughed a lot, funny joeks, etc, but the whole "shirley used to be a drunk" thing felt like too big a revelation to be left hanging like that. i'm sure it'll get addressed again but idk. it's nice that they'd try to humanize her after how self-righteous she's been, but this was a pretty big and sudden drop.

literally the worst thing that ever happened on this planet (reddening), Friday, 3 December 2010 05:54 (thirteen years ago) link

that episode has the on-screen vers of:

in my experience calling a girl annoying is guy for "im gonna try and fuck that chick". its an instant break up in my book.
