And as for claims of Ronaldinho being over-rated Mr Lido is spot on, that's just hipster contrariness.

ronaldinho is a fkn treat; it's nice to be alive to see someone soar

He's no Luca Toni.

Barcelona wont win he CL though. Their defence is SHIT and they've only played against weak teams recently.

I think Ronaldinho is now underrated.

Pretty sure that only Japanese schoolgirls and Thai dictators agree with you on that one.

In the last year or so there's been a lot of "enjoying the good life too much", "a bit fat", "not as good as he was", "place not even guaranteed" type comment on him. He's now probably still in the world's top ten/twenty rather than a stand-out top three player but many (in this case meaning blokes in pubs and British commentators and pundits) see this as somehow meaning he's not that good any more.
He remains one of the best players I've had the pleasure of watching live (though it didn't feel like it at the time, given that he was ripping the piss out of Celtic on every occasion).
― onimo, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:06 (sixteen years ago) link
Ripping the piss in games that Barcelona failed to win - therein lies the problem
― Tom D., Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:08 (sixteen years ago) link
a couple of years back he was on another level to any footballer out there. it wasn't even debatable for a while.
if you asked who the best is right now, there'd be at least four or five candidates.
― darraghmac, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:10 (sixteen years ago) link
It was debatable

Messi, Kaka, C.Ronaldo, Kitson, Cannavaro... who else?
― Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:11 (sixteen years ago) link
And yeah, even at his peak (2004?) I'd have taken a couple of players over him for my team.
― Dom Passantino, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:12 (sixteen years ago) link
Apart from them winning three of their last four against us...
― onimo, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:17 (sixteen years ago) link

― Tom D., Tuesday, 8 April 2008 13:18 (sixteen years ago) link

I still think Ronaldinho's transfer fee and wages would qualify him as 'overrated'.
I'd have taken 2004-era Nedved over virtually any player in the world. Except Wayne Rooney during that magical fortnight.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 8 April 2008 16:04 (sixteen years ago) link
transfer fees and wages over-rate loads of players tho, esp. in the PL

agree^^ hard to think of another player who made every game as much his show as ronnie at his peak
― sonderangerbot, Thursday, 14 October 2010 13:55 (thirteen years ago) link
messi is brilliant, and probably more effective but he doesn't have the range of peak ronaldinho- guy could beat you walking and still send you three wrong ways, then hit it from 35 yards. set pieces too.
